Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of Neverwinter is a facebook roleplaying game that is a browser-based adaptation of the rules of the fourth edition of the paper version of D&D. This is the production of Liquid Entertainment, with titles such as Battle Realms, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring or Dragonshard.
The action is set in a fantasy world known as Forgotten Realms, which has already been hosted many times on computer screens, including Baldur's Gate, Eye of Beholder and Neverwinter Nights series. We start the game by creating our own character. There are four races to choose from (man, halfing, dragonborn and eldarin) and the same number of classes (rogue, warrior, cleric and wizard). Interestingly, friendly players can borrow our characters and use their help during their own adventures.
The authors recreated most of the rules known from the paper originals, although everything was of course a bit simplified. The game consists mainly of exploring the underground and killing monsters. The fight takes place in a turn-based system. The order of movement is determined by the initiative coefficient. During the clashes, of course, we use the skills well known to the fans of the fourth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The authors have prepared more than fifty dungeons and before entering each of them we choose one of the three difficulty levels. During our adventures we also visit Neverwinter itself. There we buy new items and arrange our own headquarters. As the game progresses, our character gains experience points, which we then spend on improving its coefficients.
The game belongs to the category of free production supplemented by voluntary micropayments. Virtual Economy is based on two currencies - gold and astral diamonds bought with facebook coins. Interestingly, when you reach level ten, you can create your own maps and then sell them to other players. Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of Neverwinter is played from a browser and offers simple two-dimensional graphics that are designed to resemble a table version using figures and paper mock-ups.
