GRID Legends is a racing game that belongs to one of the most popular series of this type. It was traditionally developed by the Codemasters studio. This is the first part of the series, which was created after the team was bought out by Electronic Arts.
Plot
Similarly to the previous installments of the series entitled TOCA Race Driver, GRID Legends offers a story mode with live-action cutscenes, stylized as a documentary. It follows the Seneca Racing Team as they attempt to win the Grid World Series championship by challenging the legendary Ravenwest team. Throughout the course of the competition, we meet the drivers and other characters of the professional racing world with well-defined personalities.
Game mechanics
The driving model in GRID Legends is somewhere between a simulation and an arcade game (with the latter being the preferred option). We can compete here both on authentic race tracks (e.g. Indianapolis, Bathurst, Brands Hatch), and fictional objects, as well as on routes laid out along the streets of large cities (London, Moscow, San Francisco, etc.). There are about 130 variants of tracks in total.
Various categories of racing vehicles take part in the competition and multi-class competitions are possible, which means that a sports car and a truck can drive side by side. More than a hundred vehicles have been put at the players' disposal, as well as a system for upgrading them. Among the available forms of competition there are again drift and eliminator, which were missing in the previous part.
The developers have put much more focus on the "action" during the races. The AI behaves aggressively and unpredictably, and the virtual drivers can also crash and cause accidents. In addition, there is the Nemesis system known from the previous part, in which we make enemies on the track by pushing among other racers.
Game modes
Apart from the mentioned story mode, there is also a traditional career mode, in which we earn money and buy cars with it, competing in races selected from many available categories. GRID Legends also offers a competition editor that allows you to freely set the rules of races and then share your creations with the community. There are also various multiplayer options.
