Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix is a classic music-rhythmic game created for the Nintendo Switch console. The title is produced by the Japanese company Sega and is the next installment in the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series, which was born in 2009 on a portable PSP console. Over the years, it has seen several major releases and side titles released on many different console hardware platforms, including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo 3DS.
A key role in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix play songs performed by six virtual vocalists headed by Hatsune Miku, whose voices are offered by professional music programs of the Japanese company Crypton Future Media. Over the past few years, fans around the world have composed thousands of songs, representing different genres and styles of music, that have gained fans through social networks and popular video services such as YouTube and Niconico.
Mechanics
Hatsune Miku's: Project Diva MegaMix gameplay model does not differ from the one we are used to by the other parts of the cycle. During the game, the screen displays a video of the selected song and symbols representing the pad buttons, which must be pressed at the right time with a sense of rhythm. Making mistakes we interrupt the combo, multiplying our score by points, and also reduce the life bar, which depends on whether we manage to score a given song, as well as what score we get after its end. The title offers four levels of difficulty and numerous configuration options for control and interface.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix has a total of more than 100 songs, representing different genres of music (rock, pop, electronic music, etc.). Ten of them appear here for the first time in the history of the series, and the rest come from its previous editions. The title also offers several hundred costumes and accessories for vocalloids, which we unlock as the game progresses.
A novelty in the series is the Mix Mode. Players use a completely different control model than in the standard arcade mode. It is based on the use of right and left joy-cons gyroscope. When tilting both controllers we have to fit the virtual cursor into the icons appearing on the screen and then use the button at the right time.
Game modes
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix offers two basic game modes. The first one is the classic Arcade mode, in which we choose the right song and difficulty level, trying to get the highest score possible. It is worth noting that apart from playing alone, Mix Mode also allows for cooperative gameplay for two people on a common screen.
Technical aspects
The graphical presentation of the game does not differ significantly from the previous parts of Project Diva released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, as the production uses the same graphic engine and three-dimensional models of characters and environment.
