Mission: Impossible is a stealth game with action elements released on PS1, based on the 1996 film of the same title. The production was created and released in 1997 by Infogrames on the Nintendo 64 console. Two years later its version for Sony console made its debut.
Story
The plot of Mission: Impossible overlaps with the events presented in the film with Tom Cruise in the lead role. The main protagonist of the production is Ethan Hunt, an agent working for the Impossible Mission Forces organization. His task is to save an agent kidnapped by the Russian ambassador and to retrieve a stolen list containing the identity of secret CIA agents. Although the key events of the game coincide with those of the film, the creators of the game expanded it with additional threads, taking place, among others, in Russia. Some of the fragments known from the movie have been omitted for the purpose of interactive adaptation.
Mechanics
Mission: Impossible is an action game where events are shown from third-person perspective. The title emphasizes stealth and remaining unnoticed by enemies. The player has five extensive missions to complete, taking place in twenty levels. The aim is most often to infiltrate a selected facility, although there are also fragments focused on combat. There was also the iconic sequence during which the main character, hanging on strings, has to pass through a room filled with security lasers.
Successful completion of tasks is facilitated by a large arsenal of gadgets, including Facemaker - a tool that enables us to create a mask of a defeated opponent and impersonate him/her. Ethan also has a smoke generator, exploding rubber, fingerprint scanners and a set of various weapons at his disposal.
