Monkey King: Hero Is Back The Game is a hack-and-slash based on the license of a film under the same title, which was developed by Hexa Drive. The game was created in cooperation with Sony Interactive Entertainment and October Media (the owner of the rights to the franchise).
Story
The story told in Monkey King: Hero Is Back The Game is based on the story of the movie original. The main character is, therefore, the title character, Monkey King, who was imprisoned by the gods in an ice cage, where he spent five hundred long years. The hero is freed by a little boy who escaped into the mountains from the monsters attacking his hometown. Since then, the legendary warrior has no choice but to thank the child for saving him and to protect the settlement from aggressive creatures.
It is worth noting that the developers enriched the story told in the film with completely new threads. The whole thing is inspired by Journey to the West, a classic Chinese novel by Wu Cheng.
Mechanics
In Monkey King: Hero Is Back The Game we control both Monkey King and Jiang Liu'er, known from the cinematic original. During the game, we explore various locations (not only about places known from the film but also about completely new locations) and fight with our opponents. The battles take place in real-time, and prompt us to make use of the varied combat skills of the main character, chaining his attacks into impressive combinations. Particularly noteworthy are the powerful, usually giant bosses, requiring us to engage in particularly spectacular battles - the protagonist can climb on their bodies, which takes the fight to a completely new level, especially when compared to battles with common adversaries.
Technical aspects
Monkey King: Hero Is Back The Game can boast high-quality three-dimensional visuals, maintained in a distinctive style known from the original.
