Street Fighter EX2 Plus, released on PS1, is a 2.5D fighting game - this means that although the visual setting was created in three dimensions, the game takes place in two planes. The title develops the solutions known from Street Fighter EX, in addition to the traditional combos and super attacks, the game also offers Guard Break attacks that cannot be blocked, and the ability to cancel one super attack and move another.
The game also offers a new mechanic called "Excel combos", a special type of combos, which allows for a smooth combination of ordinary moves and super attacks resulting in deadly combo. Another novelty is the Meteor Combo, an extremely powerful attacks that can be used after fully charging the special attack bar.
Street Fighter EX2 Plus offers 24 playable characters, 4 of which must be unlocked first. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Zangief, Guile, Skullomania, Doctrine Dark, Hokuto, Garuda and Cracker Jack return from Street Fighter EX. For the first time in the three-dimensional setting, players can fight as Vega, Sagat and Blanka. The debutants include, among others, Area, a martial arts champion reinforced by technology, and the mysterious Italian called Vulcano Rosso.
Game modes
The version of Street Fighter EX2 Plus available on PS1 includes basic game modes such as Arcade Mode, Versus Mode and Training Mode. In addition, the production includes a minigame of destroying the satellite and an additional Director Mode, in which we face the challenge of performing specific combinations of attacks with increasing difficulty levels.
Technical aspects
Although Street Fighter EX2 Plus takes place in two dimensions, the production itself uses full three-dimensional, colourful visuals. Character models were made with attention to detail, and the backgrounds look good.
