The game was also created using Renaissance works of art made available in the public domain. The game is characterized by a large dose of humor inspired by films and programs of Monty Python group. Joe Richardson is responsible for developing The Procession to Calvary.
Plot
The Procession to Calvary takes place after the holy war, which destroyed the old order and ruined the old churches. The player takes on the role of a man who is given the task of capturing a dangerous escaped tyrant named Heavenly Peter.
Mechanics
The Procession to Calvary is a classic point & click adventure game. The gameplay is about exploring locations, acquiring and using objects and talking to characters. While playing, we often have to solve all kinds of puzzles. The main goal of the game is to learn the main plot thread.
Interestingly, the main character of the game is equipped with a sword, which we can use in various situations - including killing the characters we meet. This allows, for example, to avoid puzzles that we find too difficult or troublesome. However, care must be taken not to abuse violence, as some choices can have consequences.
Game modes
We can only play The Procession to Calvary alone. The only mode available is a feature campaign.
Technical aspects
The Procession to Calvary is distinguished by its unusual graphic design. As with the Four Last Things, it was based on old works of art found in the public domain (you can use their digital reproductions for free). We are talking about the paintings of famous painters (e.g. Hieronymus Bosch or Pieter Bruegel the Elder), as well as fragments of music. The developer of the game has combined all this into a unique whole, using additionally hand-made animations.
