''Empire Flamingo'' departed from Liverpool on 16 April 1944 for [[Oban]], [[Argyllshire]], arriving the next day. She later sailed to [[Poole]], [[Dorset]], from where she sailed on 6 June as part of CORNCOB 1, which arrived in the [[Seine Bay]] the next day.<ref name=Port2/> On 9 June, she was sunk as part of Gooseberry 4 at [[Juno Beach]], [[Arromanches]], [[Calvados (department)|Calvados]], France. Her bow section was salvaged in 1948 and taken in tow, intended for scrapping at [[Newport, Wales|Newport]], [[Monmouthshire (historic)|Monmouthshire]] but it sank on 26 October {{convert|3|nmi|km}} south of the [[Longships Lighthouse]], in the [[Atlantic Ocean]] off the coast of [[Cornwall]].<ref name=Ships/> Four people were rescued by the [[Sennen|Sennen Lifeboat]].
