Court case

I'm curious about this edit and this information, "The 1974 settlement between the BSA and the NAACP over racial discrimination required the BSA to issue its first non-discrimination policy regarding race (Stipulation and Order, NAACP, et al. v. Boy Scouts of America, et al. (Civil No. C-74-329): U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, Central Division, 1974.)" I've never heard of this court case, have you? --evrik (talk) 19:08, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The short story is that LDS Church did not allow black youth to be leaders such as SPL. I think some details are wrong but let me look.
And this inclusion in every southern state bugs me. Neither Chicago nor Tulsa are considered southern, but the Chicago Race Riot of 1919 and the Tulsa race riot were particular low points. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 19:17, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A 12-year-old boy scout has been denied a senior patrol leadership in his troop because he is black", Don L. Cope, black ombudsman for the state, said Wednesday.

Mormon 'troop policy is that in order for a scout to become a patrol leader, he must be a deacon's quorum president in the LDS Church. Since the boy cannot hold the priesthood, he cannot become a patrol leader.' "

Shortly before Boy Scout officials were to appear in Federal Court Friday morning on charges of discrimination, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a policy change which will allow black youths to be senior patrol leaders, a position formerly reserved for white LDS youths in troops sponsored by the church. An LDS Church spokesman said Friday under the "guidelines set forth in the statement, a young man other than president of the deacons quorum could (now) become the senior patrol leader if he is better qualified". - (Salt Lake Tribune, August 3,1974).

I copied that from an old email. Need a reliable archive or other source.--— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 19:30, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am eventually going to try and clean up all the state pages. It should probably be on the controversies page. along with this,

In 1914, the BSA gave local councils the power to ban African Americans from Scouting. [1]. Until 1974, some southern councils of the Boy Scouts of America were still racially segregated. The Old Hickory council did not integrate until 1974. [2] The 1974 settlement between the BSA and the NAACP over racial discrimination required the BSA to issue its first non-discrimination policy regarding race.[3]

I don't see anything that states this lead to the first race-related non-discrimination policy. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 22:53, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of the three references you listed, I have Macleod and have not found the other two. The articles I found can replace the third, but I am iffy on Old Hickory Council. I had heard that Pee Dee Area Council was the last to integrate in 1972, but I don't have a good ref. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 19:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Defunct local councils of the Boy Scouts of America

Hey there, there may have been some confusion earlier. I was trying to create a placeholder article. I wasn't necessarily trying to take the article live yet, or short cut what you were working on, which is why I didn't use your title of List of defunct local councils of the Boy Scouts of America. So I'm not sure what's going on with Defunct local councils of the Boy Scouts of America or User:Gadget850/List of defunct local councils of the Boy Scouts of America. I'm signing off for the day. --evrik (talk) 17:11, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, my question is answered ... :-) I wish you hadn't "moved" the page, but started it fresh, it would have been nice to not see the editing history. I kinda like the Wikipedia:Athena effect. --evrik (talk) 17:15, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox settlement Chile

Hi Gadget850,

I would appreciate to know your opinion in the case of merging {{Infobox settlement Chile}} to {{Infobox settlement}} as proposed in {{Infobox settlement/sandbox}}. The discussion is in Template_talk:Infobox_settlement#Infobox_settlement_Chile. Feel free to ask more information that isn't given in the discussion.
