Tony Sidaway RFC

[edit]

Just a friendly reminder: you have 24 hrs for another editor to co-certify the RFC, or else it is automatically cancelled... Georgewilliamherbert 02:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yeah, I don't think the other people are online right now, hopefully soon. And I thought it was 48 hours? Anyway, thanks. Chuck(척뉴넘) 02:55, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is no longer an issue. — Nathan (talk) 03:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, hopefully people will treat this with respect. Chuck(척뉴넘) 03:34, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, to me, that RfC is brilliantly written. If I were to do it myself, I would've done much much worse. — Nathan (talk) 05:54, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, thanks. Too bad I'm good at writing and not Engineering (my major) :( . Chuck(척뉴넘) 05:58, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfC for Tony Sidaway

[edit]

Hey Tawker, I'm pretty confused about your putting the speedy delete tag at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Tony Sidaway 3 It doesn't seem to meet G1, and I was inder the assumption that if an RfC is really nonsense (which I believe this one is not), it would be thrown out after the 48 hours, when two people don't affirm that they tried to resolve the problem (which has already been done in this case). Just wanted to let you know thought that I've seen your edits and bots and think your a great editor, and hopefully this was just some mistake. See you around, Chuck(척뉴넘) 04:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I tagged the wrong page I think, too many tabs open....... (lesson to self don't keep 50 tabs open at once) -- Tawker 04:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hahah, no problem...happens to me too. Later, Chuck(척뉴넘) 04:40, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your remarks on my talk page

[edit]

Please refrain from reposting those comments. You are mistaken, and as I've tried to explain to you before, you do not have all the information so your involvement in my discussion with User:nathanrdotcom isn't helpful. Exploding Boy 20:14, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not going to refrain from warning you not to make personal attacks after you've made a personal attack. By removing your warning, you are availing yourself of a block, and nobody wants that, as we have a continuing discussion at the RfC ongoing. Chuck(척뉴넘) 20:16, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exploding Boy, please watch your civility. Regardless of you being an admin, please bear in mind WP:CIVIL. Thank you.
As to this elusive information that Chuck appears to be missing, perhaps you could enlighten me as well. The only "information" that is relevant here is my signature and we're all aware of it. If there's some new information that we should all know, do enlighten me too, because I don't know it either. What would be helpful here is for you to kindly stop going on about information, and actually give this information. Thank you. — Nathan (talk) 20:39, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What on earth is your problem? There was no personal attack. First, I can't read your name, hence chuckwagon (which is what it looks like to me). Second, your comments are far from useful. Advising a user to purchase a new computer because another user's signature does not display properly is not helpful, and could be considered a personal attack in itself. I will be removing your illegitimate warning from my talk page. Please stop reposting it. Exploding Boy 20:24, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My comment about getting a new computer was a suggestion to remedy your viewing problems. Saying that my edits are useless is uncalled for and a personal attack. Calling me Chuckwagon becuase you can't read my name (I don't know why you can't read it) (and how does it look like Chuckwagon)), is uncalled for also. Please do not remove the warning again. Chuck(척뉴넘) 20:28, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense. Your remark about getting a new computer was clearly intended as a dig, and as such your continued involvement in the nathanrdotcom signature discussion was obviously unhelpful. Your warning was illegitimate. Please stop threatening to block me; you have no basis on which to do so. Exploding Boy 20:32, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so so tempted to say something here but even I know when to quit. — Nathan (talk) 18:50, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

[edit]

Hello there! While I have absolutely nothing against your sig, I could probably use your help. The 3 characters in superscript... What are they? Meaning, what language/coding? The thing is I remember them show up properly when Firefoxing under Windows, but under my Linux box, all I see are three "unicode boxes" (or so I call them), meaning small squares with four hexadecimal digits inside. This is the usual problem I have with korean characters and some other east-asian scripts (while some, like japanese or chinese render fine). So, could you possibly have any idea what I'm talking about/help me? Misza13 T C 20:37, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly. They're Korean characters (it's actually my name in Korean). Korean has many fonts and I'm not sure which is used here. I was stuck with the "unicode boxes" for quite some time until I downloaded all of the fonts. Chuck(척뉴넘) 20:39, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFAr agianst Tony Sidaway

[edit]

Hi Chuck. I was wondering, really, what do you hope to accomplish by sending Tony to RFAr? I, for one, support your statement, but I don't think there is much ArbCom can do. I don't think ArbCom can desysop him over something as minor as this, or block him, so I don't think theres much else that can be done. ArmCom cannot tell him to stop feeling he is right or tell him to view another side, which wouldn't happen anyways. -- from The King of Kings 06:43, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Moe, first off, glad you're back. In regards to the RfAr, I hope that the ArbCom will instruct Tony to leave signatures that do not violate guidlines alone (I believe this is within their power). The Arbcom can also, as far as I know, remind Tony of certain principles and etiquettes of this project. It was never my original intention to take this step (I didn't even want to go to RfC) but Tony habitually lessens his disruption by "talking-down" to his opposition. If Tony continues to "refactor" signatures after/if the case is accepted, the ArbCom can also issue a block per disruption or WP:POINT. However, I do not want Tony blocked for the sake of blocking Tony. I believe blocks should be preventive or stop-gap, rather than punitive. In the end, I guess, I'm hoping that Tony will stop changing signatures not on his talk page. If he does not, I'm hoping the Arbcom will tell him to do that. Thanks for the message and let me know if you have any more questions. Later, Chuck(contrib) 06:53, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The ArbCom can tell Tony to be more civil/polite/less condescending to users. They can also tell him to leave signatures alone. (at the risk of repeating what Chuck said) — Nathan (talk) 16:04, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to have a discussion with Nathan. Please stop getting involved. You're not helping. Exploding Boy 05:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stop it! Please, do not misrepresent good-faith edits as threats. Please, stop hindering my attempts to solve a problem with a fellow editor. Exploding Boy 05:41, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You threatened to get a mediator...simple enough to me. And you are not trying to solve a problem...you are confounding one. Please stop. Chuck(contrib) 05:45, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A request for mediation is not a threat. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Calling it such is a deliberate misrepresentation. Exploding Boy 06:36, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cyde Weys userpage

[edit]

just to take this off cyde's talk page... there are just a couple of points i want to state:

  • i think cyde's userpage is a tad ridiculous myself. it's a png! and impossible to read!
  • i think cyde's crusade against userboxes and sig files is divisive and counterproductive. i think people should not be interferred in their ability to control their own userspace and believe that doing so only creates bad will.
  • so, with those two above, i believe the cyde should have his userpage left alone. call me an optimist, but perhaps he will one day be able to see that his png page is no different than someone else's userbox farm or sig file and that an expression of individuality does not have to be a declaration of war.

frymaster 16:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good way to think about it. I will leave Cyde and his page alone and hope for the same in return. Thanks, Chuck(contrib) 19:09, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense, but will he leave us alone in return? Highly doubtful. — Nathan (talk) 20:05, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps not. cyde is an interesting cat: he's had a (to me) ostentatious sig in the past, but speaks out against ostentatious sigs; he has a userpage from hell, but thinks all userboxes should be speedied (i have a quote to that effect)... however, just because he acts in a way we deem to be innapropriate does not mean that we should behave similarly. we should strive to raise the level of discourse here, not lower it. -- frymaster 21:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also reverted to make my point. I have to say interesting cat is an understatement. I think he just loves attention and will do what it takes to receive it. By making a big deal of the situation you fulfill his goal. I think frymaster is spot on this case. This may also be why he likes to hang out with Tony Sideway, they have many similarities. David D. (Talk) 22:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
*wild speculation* He seems to contradict himself in many ways. He speaks out against sigs, yet used to have an image-only sig (and presently, his sig seems annoying - I'll decide when I want to change my cursor, not anyone else). He apparently speaks out against userpages, but has an image-only userpage. The whole thing isn't appearing to make a lot of sense. [comment removed/refactored] — Nathan (talk) 00:41, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll bet multiple people post under the same username. ;P ―Linux|erist 00:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Libya

[edit]

Hi,

I've recently added Libya to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!

To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.

I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.

You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by Sandy, on the candidature page. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and copyedit, perfect, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.

Thanks a lot,

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Completing Version 0.5 reviews

[edit]

Hi Chuck, I know it's been a while, but I thought I should check in with you. We've made it over 1000 articles! Now we only have about four weeks left to review articles for Wikipedia:Version 0.5. I was wondering if you could take a look at Wikipedia:Version_0.5/To_do and sign up for something? I'd like us to make sure we don't miss anything important. And once the end of the month rolls around we can take a well-deserved break...! Any help you can give would be most welcome. Hope you're doing well. September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Space missions WikiProject

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you are a member of the Space missions WikiProject. A couple of weeks ago, I proposed that the Space missions and Space travellers projects, which both appear to be inactive be merged into the Human Spaceflight project. Whilst this is being done, the capitalisation of the Human spaceflight project's title would also be corrected (ie. Human SpaceflightHuman spaceflight). The projects are all doing the same/very similar things, and in my opinion, a single, larger, project would be more effective than three smaller, and somewhat inactive projects.. In light of very little response to messages on the project talk pages, I am now sending this message to all members of all three projects, inviting them to discuss the proposal on the Human Spaceflight project's talk page. I would appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 22:08, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Cholangiocytes.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Cholangiocytes.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:33, 28 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:33, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Ejaculation.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ejaculation.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:54, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:30, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Ellipse 1 Q.JPG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
