“The Crown” has been a consistent Emmy contender since its first season debuted on Netflix in 2016. Last year, its sixth season premiered on the streaming service, bringing the drama to a conclusion once and for all. We expect this season to be a big hit with Emmy voters once more and several stars could benefit from that attention, including Queen Elizabeth actress Imelda Staunton.
Staunton took over the role from Olivia Colman, who in turn inherited the character from Claire Foy. Staunton joined the show in season five and, in season six, she provided her best performance as Queen Elizabeth yet. This season takes place between 1997 and 2005 and depicts the death of Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki), the premiership of Tony Blair (Bertie Carvel) as Prime Minister, and the wedding of Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams). Critics agree, Staunton is excellent again as she leads the line as Queen Elizabeth.
