According to the closing credits, footage from the film is used in "The Golden Age." Director Shekhar Kapur says in the audio commentary, that it is the waves crashing on the rocks at the end of the film, since the film crew could not find such crashing waves to record anywhere in the British Isles.

The cut from the setting sun (before Doryan's death) to Charles striking a match is a sly homage to the famous "match cut" from Lean's earlier film.
