During the mid-1970s, television producer Aaron Spelling and the writing duo of Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts hit upon the most spectacularly novel idea: Viewers loved watching women solve crimes. The eureka moment occurred in 1974 when the great and ludicrously beautiful Angie Dickinson scored a primetime hit with "Police Woman." While I'd argue Dickinson could've burned up the Nielsen ratings via weekly readings of Russian literature shot at the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, she was a must-watch sensation as a glamorously attired detective. Though the scripts were rigorously formulaic for a '70s hour-long cop show, Dickinson's showbiz rep attracted a host of top tier guest stars; "Police Woman" didn't have much of a hook, but thanks to its star, it had plenty of sizzle.
It took some prodding (ABC execs Barry Diller and Michael Eisner abhorred Spelling's pitch), but "Charlie's Angels" became the breakout hit of the 1976 season.

Let’s Make a Deal host Wayne Brady has offered unlucky former contestants a chance at “ultimate redemption.”
The Zonk is the infamous prize that some contestants end up with rather than a trip out of the country, a new car, or other fun prizes.
In a brand new Ultimate Zonk Redemption Night teaser, Brady explained that they are “the prizes that no one wants.”
“Zonks don’t just happen. They are created,” he explained from inside a room full of random objects and someone in a horse costume wearing a white lab coat behind him.
Brady called the room their “Let’s Make a Deal R&d Zonk laboratory” as the camera showed off various stuffed toy animals behind him, including monkeys, horses, and frogs.
The new teaser arrived before the new primetime episode on CBS and before the new daytime season premieres.

Drew Carey has been a consistent presence on our television screens for nearly 30 years.
And for most of that time, he’s occupied a succession of rather cozy niches:
Whether it was his long-running ABC sitcom, his beloved improv show, or his current role as host of the revered game show The Price Is Right, Carey has historically excelled at offering content that appeals to very specific sectors of the population.
In other words, he’s not the kind of celebrity whom you’re confronted with against your will when you scroll through your Facebook feed.
Unlike the Taylor Swifts and Travis Kelces of the world, Carey has to be sought out.
And the people who go searching for his brand of “aw, shucks” nerdy Midwestern charm usually know exactly what’s in store.

Jeopardy! isn’t known for being the most hilarious show on TV. After all, three nerdy contestants showing off their trivia knowledge in the form of questions isn’t exactly a formula for comedy gold. Unless, of course, one of the contestants is Sir Sean Connery.
That being said, the late Alex Trebek did manage to squeeze in a few memorable laughs during his legendary run as host, such as the time he absolutely bodied a “nerd-core hip-hop” fan for absolutely no reason.
Now the current host of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings, is reportedly working on beefing up his joke-telling skills, and has hired a “comedy coach” seemingly to counter criticisms that he comes across as “awkward and unfunny” on the air. “How to be genuinely funny is one of the things that hinders (Jennings),” an anonymous source told Closer Weekly. “People on the show know it, Ken knows it deep down.

In the fall of 1971, John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved into an apartment on 105 Bank Street in the West Village of Manhattan. It had been two years since Lennon told his Beatles bandmates that he wanted “a divorce,” and the recently married couple craved a fresh start in America away from the oppressive shadow of the group he founded. By this point, Lennon and Ono’s lives were completely intertwined—they were not merely lovers, but also close creative collaborators whose artistry was developing in tandem. Her background in the avant-garde and gallery world intermingled with his experience with pop music and celebrity until their work became inseparable from persona. Together they garnered a more focused political conscience as the Vietnam war continued unabated amidst an increasingly fractured, hostile social environment. They wished to put theory into action, to commit to activist politics, and what better place to do that...

Drew Carey Is A Loved Host
Drew Carey is the current host of The Price Is Right. However, Bob Barker was the original host. When he retired, production started auditioning for a new host. Drew was ultimately the one picked for the job. However, he was not one of the people who was auditioning. It seems that he was just chosen. Fans love having him as a host. However, they do wish he would change things up a bit. The show continues to be repetitive.

The 15th and final season of CBS’ “The Talk” will kick off on Monday, September 9, Soap Opera Network has learned. The news marks the first time since at least June that the veteran talk show will feature a slate of all-new episodes.
Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood are all expected back as co-hosts, with Rob Crabbe continuing to serve as executive producer/showrunner.
In the case of Underwood, the final season fulfills a two-year deal she signed back in 2022 which would see her continuing to co-host the daytime talk show through Season 15 and provided her with a first-look development deal with CBS Studios.
The final season of “The Talk” will conclude in December.

It was the end of the road for Brooklyn Rivera as her Big Brother journey ended Thursday night.
Later that evening, the BB26 cast played a new Head of Household Competition.
Tucker watched on as the other 10 players competed for power. He also knew he needed the right person to win Hoh.
Tucker wasn’t short on confidence, though. He told Brooklyn he would win the Power of Veto and save himself if he got nominated in Week 6.
A new BB26 alliance has also emerged, with Tucker, Rubina Bernabge, Kimo Apaka, and T’Kor Clottey working as a foursome.
One of those alliance members won the Week 6 Hoh Competition, putting Tucker in a good position again.

Drew Barrymore will add another title to her extensive resume, as she has been tapped as the new host of the rebooted Hollywood Squares, and fans are ecstatic. So, what else do we know so far about this game show revamp?
Original The Hollywood Squares Premiered Decades Ago
Like many of the iconic game shows on today that stand the test of time, they often got their humble start decades ago. With popular game shows like The Price Is Right, Wheel Of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy! still going strong, it certainly makes sense to want to bring another game show like Hollywood Squares back.
The original The Hollywood Squares premiered in 1966. For this game, two contestants compete in a game of tic-tac-toe to win cash and prizes. The big draw for the show that kept viewers coming back was the fact that a popular celebrity sat at each “square.

Since Wheel Of Fortune host Pat Sajak stepped down from his iconic role, many fans of the show have been theorizing why his daughter, Maggie Sajak, wasn’t offered the hosting gig, to take over for her father. So, why was Pat’s daughter denied?
Wheel Of Fortune: Pat Sajak Has Been The Face Of The Popular Game Show
When longtime viewers think of Wheel Of Fortune, they automatically think of Pat Sajak. He was the host of the show for four decades. When you host one game show for that long, you become synonymous with it.
Much in the same way that Bob Barker was synonymous with The Price Is Right or Alex Trebek was synonymous with Jeopardy!, Pat Sajak has been the same for Wheel Of Fortune as well.
With Pat stepping down from his post, there are many viewers who are still curious why the network didn’t choose his daughter,...

Some Happy Gilmore news from Happy himself: Adam Sandler says Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and Taylor Swift beau) Travis Kelce will make a cameo in the upcoming sequel to the 1996 hit comedy.
Sandler, appearing on last night’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, was talking about Happy Gilmore 2 when he was asked by Fallon about cameos.
“We have a nice something for Travis,” said Sandler, who is writing the sequel with original Happy co-writer Tim Herlihy. “He’s gonna come by.”
Sandler continued about Kelce, “He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”
Sandler also mentioned that some pro golfers would show up in the sequel, and the filming is expected to begin in New Jersey in a couple weeks.

With the Olympics now over, viewing habits are returning to some form of normalcy, particularly for “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless,” demographically speaking, of course.

Long before she arrived at the Big Brother house, Angela Murray appeared on another hit TV show.
More than 11 years ago, Angela met host Wayne Brady during her first appearance on Let’s Make A Deal.
She would later appear on Let’s Make A Deal again and was even featured during an episode of Dr. Phil.
Being on television so often has led some Big Brother fans to accuse Angela of being a “plant” on the show.
Here’s what the Bb bosses had to say about that as they addressed the conspiracy theory.
“I came to play big,” Angela told Wayne as she chose cards early in her appearance on Let’s Make a Deal.
After selecting successfully and not getting a zonk, Angela stated, “I came to go big,” as she continued playing.

It seems as though the past few years have brought a resurgence of game shows, which were once a staple of both daytime and primetime television viewing. As a kid, I relished snow days and sick days when I could miss school and curl up on the sofa to watch all my favorites – “Pyramid,” “Family Feud” and “Password” were just a few. Every day after school I rushed through my homework so that I’d have time to watch “Tattletales” and “Tic Tac Dough.”
Game shows go all the way back to the days of radio, with one such program becoming the first game show to air on broadcast television – “Truth or Consequences” debuted on July 1, 1941, and before long the genre became a popular form of entertainment. All “Big Three” networks carried a variety of game shows on both daytime and primetime schedules until their popularity began to fizzle in the ’80s and ’90s.

The Big Brother production team has heard the whispers about Angela Murray. Some viewers have suggested that the Bb 26 house villain is a network plant. Producers on the show have addressed the rumors in a recent interview. Here is what they revealed.
Executive Producers Talk About Angela Murray Theories
Executive producer Rich Meehan spoke with Deadline about the theory that Angela Murray is a CBS plant. “She’s been so fun to watch, so unexpected. With all those things, I don’t necessarily blame people for wondering, because it’s been surprising and shocking along the way,” he said. “But it is always funny, the conspiracy theories that are out there.”
Fellow EP on Big Brother, Allison Grodner, backed Rich’s claims that Angela wasn’t placed on the show by the production team. However, she thought that it could be a “good idea” for future seasons. What a twist that would be!

Fellow EP on Big Brother, Allison Grodner, backed Rich’s claims that Angela wasn’t placed on the show by the production team. However, she thought that it could be a “good idea” for future seasons. What a twist that would be!

Game show superfan Ted Slauson has been opening up about Wheel of Fortune‘s audition process and his tips on how to win the puzzles. Slauson is best known as the subject of the 2017 documentary The Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much. The film follows Slauson, an elementary school math teacher and The Price Is Right superfan who memorized product prices and helped contestants make “perfect bids” by shouting answers from the studio audience. Speaking to The U.S. Sun, Slauson, who ultimately got banned from Tpir after helping contestant Terry Kneiss win a double showcase, revealed he’d also auditioned for Wheel of Fortune twice, once in 2001/02 and again in 2015. “When I auditioned, it was back in 2001 or 2002, the whole first part is, everyone’s there,” he told the outlet. “[The producers] call you randomly, you stand up, and you take a couple turns, and then you sit down, and...

With all of the choices that streaming provides to viewers, there’s a widespread belief that we’ve come to the end of the era of monoculture, where a mass TV audience watches the same program at the same time. “House of the Dragon” seems to buck this trend, as the HBO and Max series’ Season 2 finale perches the show atop the streaming chart once again.
Chasing the tail of the “Dragon” this week is a crop of theatrical releases and feature films. “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” swings into second this week after being added to Hulu on Aug. 2. The latest installment of the simian series hit movie theaters barely more than three months before it began its streaming run. It’s followed by “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” last week’s No. 2 and another 2024 theatrical release.
