A documentary chronicling the making of Paul McCartney and Wings’ album One Hand Clapping is coming to cinemas, here are the details.

Paul McCartney has now announced too that One Hand Clapping, a documentary about the making of Wings’ album of the same name, will be screened in cinemas worldwide in September. The footage was recorded in 1974, capturing McCartney and the band, who included Linda McCartney on piano, Denny Laine and Jimmy McCulloch on guitars and Geoff Britton on drums, playing live in the studio for an album that was not released until June this year.

Thirty years ago, Common looked back ruefully at his favorite genre in “I Used to Love H.E.R.,” his classic riff on hip-hop as a wayward ex-girlfriend. “She was really the realest before she got into showbiz,” he lamented. The couple patched things up after that, and Common grew from a prematurely scolding young man to a genial elder statesman, upholding what he sees as rap’s traditional values with a smile and a serious commitment to his craft. It’s been a happy marriage, for the most part.

Last year’s Grammy Award lineup for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was somewhat weak, with most of the nominees being deep album cuts rather than big singles. Even the ones that were singles were not particularly major hits, at least not to the level that past winners in the category have been. Is this becoming the new normal? This year’s lineup is also looking pretty scarce so far, although there are some contenders whose wins would be significant due to certain other factors.
The frontrunner right now seems to be Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight,” which has made huge waves. The single served as the lead for Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and became an instant hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and breaking the record for the most streamed song in a single day on Spotify. Rock music is far from dead. Last year’s Grammy nominations proved that, with some of the leading acts in music being present in the rock categories. Alongside legends like The Rolling Stones and Metallica, the field was graced by the presence of Gen-z’s favorite artists, such as Boygenius, Arctic Monkeys and Olivia Rodrigo. So to find great rock music these days, you just have to pay attention. We are certainly paying attention this year, with a slew of buzzy releases already in the conversation to take home the gold come Grammy time.
One of the biggest stories in rock this season is the return of The Beatles with the single “Now and Then.” It’s unclear if the song will be competing in pop or in rock, but either way it’s for sure getting them a nomination. A music video made to their hit song “I’m...

It happens to many of us above a certain age. You wake up one day, and realize that your life involves neither your childhood besties, nor the carefree bliss you once took for granted. With that in mind, Castille Landon’s wearisome comedy “Summer Camp” ponders, what if there was a way to awaken our inner child and reestablish our priorities later in life through some fun and play? It’s surely a worthy enough premise for a good time, but one “Summer Camp” squanders through dull jokes, an uninspiring story without any real stakes and an overall phony feeling that the film can’t shake.
Indeed, “Summer Camp” often seems only as authentic as a high-end glamping site, when it unsuccessfully tries to convince the audience that it’s the real deal about the virtues of letting your hair down once in a while — a teaching that the film hammers on,...

Lovin’ is what Sublime fans got this week, as their first song in nearly 30 years was released on Friday. More extraordinarily, the track, titled “Feel Like That”, features the late Bradley Nowell on vocals via outtakes from a 1996 jam session.
“Feel Like That” is actually a collaboration between Sublime and reggae band Stick Figure, with vocals from three different people, including Nowell’s son Jakob, who was less than one year old when his father died from a heroin overdose in May 1996. After a lengthy hiatus solely because of the loss of their frontman, Sublime took on Jakob as lead singer this year with the intent to build a future for the band.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Sublime bassist Eric Wilson expressed gratitude for having a collection of outtakes that can be heard – in some form or another – by fans. “We are blessed that we still have all these old...

The Beatles may be no more, but their royalties are still coming in strong. Let It Be, a documentary about The Beatles not commercially released since it was broadcast over 50 years ago, will be available to watch on Disney+ in May.

George Harrison was rarely a provocateur, however, he called his final album Brainwashed. Accusing anyone of being brainwashed is pretty bold! One of George’s British Invasion peers explained the origin of that memorable title. Notably, it had a connection to George’s spiritual views.
Donovan said George Harrison’s album ‘Brainwashed’ was a reaction to materialism
Two kindred spirits in the 1960s counterculture were George Harrison and Donovan. Both artists were folk-rockers who explored spirituality through their songs. George’s songs were often expressions of his Hindu faith, whereas Donovan sang about common New Age topics like Atlantis and witchcraft. Both of them were also environmentalists.
During a 2018 interview with Goldmine, the “Mellow Yellow” singer discussed his feelings about the planet and George’s — and what they both learned from the books they read. “That the older generation was destroying the ecosystem with no consideration whatsoever for the inner world of plants,...

“Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they?” says Linda Martell, a country music pioneer, in the intro to Beyoncé’s “Spaghettii.” “In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand, but in practice, well, some may feel confined.” Those two sentences perfectly sum up how Beyoncé has subverted expectations in recent years by spreading her wings beyond pop, hip-hop, and R&b to infuse rock, house, and now country music into her own unique style that ultimately really is just “Beyoncé.”

The Beatles‘ “I Am the Walrus” might seem like a psychedelic novelty today, but John Lennon adored it. He said it would appeal to fans of the Electric Light Orchestra. Interestingly, Elo has some deep connections to the Fab Four — particularly George Harrison during his solo era.
John Lennon explained why The Beatles’ ‘I Am the Walrus’ was a personal favorite
The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon features the text of a radio interview from 1974. “And now we’re gonna play a track from Magical Mystery Tour, which is one of my favorite albums because it was so weird, and it’s ‘I Am the Walrus,'” he said. While Magical Mystery Tour is a classic, it’s generally not as acclaimed as other Beatles records such as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, or The White Album. It’s interesting that John valued Magical Mystery Tour so highly.

Moss stunned in a blue mop-like dress that covered her neck with white heels.
Stella’s dad, Paul McCartney, was also in attendence as well as Ringo Starr, M.I.A., Anna Wintour and Tina Kunakey.
Paul McCartney and Starr are the only surviving members of the iconic pop group, The Beatles. In 2023, they released a new song featuring the late John Lennon’s vocals titled “Now and Then.”
McCartney shared his thoughts on the new single featuring the “Imagine” singer.
“There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it. It’s a genuine Beatles recording,” he said.
Lennon was shot and killed in 1980 by a stalker, Mark David Chapman.

One of the songs Paul McCartney wrote as a teenager became a hit for another band. What a prodigy he was! John Lennon said the tune in question played an important role in The Beatles’ career.
A Paul McCartney song appeared on a special Beatles tape
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John was asked about the track “Like Dreamers Do.” While the tune was credited to the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership, it was first released by a British band called The Applejacks.

In 1995, The Beatles released “Free as a Bird,” their first new song in years. John Lennon originally wrote it in 1977, and his surviving bandmates worked on it years later. While the song was a success on the charts, longtime Beatles producer George Martin wasn’t sure how he felt about it. He gave it his stamp of approval but felt it sounded a bit odd.
George Martin wasn’t sure about the finished product of a late Beatles song
At the start of 1994, Paul McCartney called Yoko Ono to wish her a happy New Year. Through this conversation and further ones, they began discussing the possibility of working on some of Lennon’s home demos and releasing them as Beatles songs.
“I liked ‘Free As A Bird’ immediately,” McCartney said in the book A Hard Day’s Write: The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song by Steve Turner. “I liked the melody.

The Hofner bass that Paul McCartney used to play countless live shows in the ‘60s and record The Beatles‘ first two albums was stolen out of the back of a van in 1972. Now, over half a century later, the legendary four-string has been located and returned to McCartney.
The bass was located by The Lost Bass Project, a grassroots campaign focused on recovering the instrument. A statement posted to McCartney’s website read: “Following the launch of last year’s Lost Bass project, Paul’s 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned. The guitar has been authenticated by Höfner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved.”
First purchased by McCartney in Hamburg, Germany, in 1961, the bass was used at The Beatles’ residencies in the city, as well as their performances at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. It can also be heard on many classic Beatles recordings,...

Composer Lorne Balfe has spent his career working on blockbusters including “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” but even so, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller “Argylle,” which features an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill, was one for the books. For a start, the soundtrack incorporates the Beatles’ last-ever record, “Now and Then,” the existence of which Balfe had to keep top secret for over a year until it was finally released last November.
The movie also involved Balfe making an album of cat sounds, provided by Vaughn’s moggy (and Howard’s co-star) Chip. “There were recordings of him while they were filming so we were able to chop it up and make it a percussion library,” says Balfe, a self-confessed dog person. “I’m going to post it on Twitter as a freebie so composers can use it and Chip...

Plot: The shy author (Bryce Dallas Howard) of a series of best-selling spy novels discovers that her books, somehow, are all true. Pursued by a top-secret division of evil spies, she must now rely on an unlikely protector (Sam Rockwell) to get to the bottom of the whole affair.
Review: As a big fan of spy cinema, particularly the vintage kind from the early days of James Bond, I’ve always liked what Matthew Vaughn was doing with his yarns. While many say he should direct an actual 007 film, it’s clear to me – as a fan of the genre – that Vaughn’s heart belongs to a bygone era in espionage movies. If the Kingsman movies were his gonzo, R-rated riff on the Roger Moore James Bond movies he grew up watching, Argylle is his tribute to the campy James Bond knockoffs that hit theaters in the late sixties.

Paul McCartney surprised a journalist by saying he didn’t have The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” memorized. Other classic Beatles songs weren’t any easier for him to learn. Paul also revealed what he thought of “Hey Jude” and some other classic Beatles songs in retrospect.
Paul McCartney has to relearn The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Yesterday’
During a 2018 interview with 60 Minutes, Paul explained his tour routine. “When I’m doing shows I listen to a lotta music, Beatles music, Wings music, to see what ones we’re gonna do,” he said. “And to learn them.”
A reporter was surprised to learn that Paul didn’t know the lyrics of “Hey Jude,” “Yesterday,” and “Band on the Run” by heart. “There’s too many,” he said. “Too many words. Too many notes. They’re very hard. I mean, you know, it’s not like they’re all three chords.”

Thora Birch has been performing in Hollywood since she was just a tiny tyke, famously playing Dani Dennison in the cult Halloween classic "Hocus Pocus," where she becomes the target of the malevolent Sanderson sisters. But although one of her most memorable roles came in 1993, when she was just 11 years old, that was far from the end of her career as an actress. Birch has continued to work in the industry, lending her talents to television series, films, music videos, and even podcasts over the years.
Birch's career has been defined by a few standout performances in films that captured the imaginations of audiences everywhere, but one of the most inspiring aspects of her time in Hollywood is that whenever she has been in danger of being completely subsumed by these larger-than-life roles, she shifts gears, navigating a career as a performer on her own terms. Yoko Ono said her relationship with John Lennon was “a long roller-coaster.” Yoko said she and the “Imagine” singer giggled often while they were making two of his albums. One of those albums became a tremendous success. The other only produced one hit.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono had a great time making ‘Double Fantasy’ and ‘Milk and ‘Honey’
David Sheff interviewed John and Yoko in 1980. His interview appeared in the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In a 2020 introduction to the book, he discussed meeting up with Yoko long after John’s death.
“Years later, I reminisced with her about that time,” Sheff wrote. “She still got teary-eyed over John, though she had a full and productive life again. When we talked about that summer, she got a big smile. “‘The making of Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey was a great time for us,...

So, this is Christmas, and Peter Jackson recently helmed the music video for the new Beatles song Now and Then, which controversially used AI to finish John Lennon’s vocals on the previously unfinished song. Jackson would also previously release the mini-series documentary on The Beatles titled Get Back for Disney+. Now the Lord of the Rings director is collaborating with John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s son, Sean for a new animated short that is inspired by the beloved Christmas tune by Lennon, Happy Xmas (War is Over).
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Sean Ono Lennon was looking for a way to make a music video for one of his parents’ songs. Ono Lennon met with Pixar animator Dave Mullins, and the two sparked the idea for an animated short about “a chess game played across enemy lines with the help of a heroic carrier pigeon.” Mullins wrote and...

In 1968, The Beatles released a song that might not have been a possibility in earlier years. At over seven minutes long, “Hey Jude” was too long to fit on a standard record without severely jeopardizing the sound. The band insisted on keeping it at its length, though. This required a team of sound engineers to find a way to fit it on the record.
The Beatles song ‘Hey Jude’ was too long to fit on on a record without distorting the sound
When Paul McCartney wrote “Hey Jude,” longtime Beatles producer told the band it would not be wise to release it as a single.
“We recorded ‘Hey Jude’ in Trident Studios. It was a long song,” George Martin said in The Beatles Anthology. “In fact, after I timed it I actually said, ‘You can’t make a single that long.’ I was shouted down by the boys — not for...

The murder of John Lennon might be the most publicized homicide in history to have never gone to court. Those who were present that fateful day in 1980 will give their de facto testimonies in the upcoming Apple TV+ docuseries John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, which has debuted its official trailer.
Directed by Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream, Murder Without a Trial culls from material granted by NYPD via numerous Freedom of Information Act requests. The result is a “deeply researched examination” of the former Beatle‘s assassination outside his Manhattan home, from killer Mark David Chapman’s months of planning to the devastating aftermath.
Along with previously unseen crime scene photos, the three-part series will compile new interviews with first-hand accounts. Those featured include Richard Peterson, a taxi driver who witnessed the shooting; Jay Hastings, a doorman at Lennon’s apartment building who heard his last words; David Suggs,...

In 1994, Yoko Ono gave Paul McCartney demo tapes that would eventually become the 2023 Beatles song “Now and Then.” She helped bring a major piece of Beatles’ history to the world decades after her husband’s death. Several years before she gave McCartney the tapes, Ono also helped preserve more of the Beatles’ history. After Ono learned Beatles road manager Mal Evans’ memoir was slated for destruction, she stepped in to save it.
Beatles’ road manager Mal Evans wrote a book that was nearly destroyed
In 1988, artist Leena Kutti accepted a temporary position at New York publishing house G.P. Putnam’s Sons. She was to go through their storage room and clear it out. This meant throwing away much of the artwork and manuscripts stored there.
While sifting through boxes, Kutti discovered thousands of vintage photographs of The Beatles and a manuscript titled Living the Beatles’ Legend: Or 200 Miles to Go by Malcolm Evans.

Ringo Starr is brushing off “terrible rumors” that he and Paul McCartney used AI to recreate John Lennon’s voice for their newly released Beatles song “Now and Then.”
The Beatles drummer addressed the issue in a new interview with AARP magazine about his life during and after his time in the iconic band and his reunion with McCartney to produce an unfinished track.
While Starr and McCartney, along with the late George Harrison, had teamed to release other demos featuring Lennon back in the 1990s, they had left “Now and Then” on the table after an issue with separating Lennon’s vocals from the instrumentals made it difficult to complete the track. That changed when the musicians worked with director Peter Jackson on the Disney+ documentary Get Back. During the process of producing that film, a new technology was developed based on machine learning, a branch of AI, that...

A producer who worked on one of the most famous songs of 2023 said The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun” was ignored by one of the Fab Four’s most famous albums. In context, that makes a lot of sense. However, it might not be what fans want, especially considering that “Here Comes the Sun” is such an enduring tune.

The Beatles released two of the most famous compilation albums of all time: 1962-1966 (commonly called The Red Album) and 1967-1970 (commonly called The Blue Album). During a 2023 interview with Variety, “Now and Then” producer Giles Martin discussed The Red Album and The Blue Album.

The Beatles‘ “Now and Then” was produced by three incredible musicians — only one of whom was a member of The Beatles. A producer of “Now and Then” said the track is a good distraction from the world. He also said there’s nothing cynical about Paul McCartney’s decision to release the tune.

The Beatles‘ “Now and Then” was produced by the son of the Fab Four’s original producer. He felt the tune was reminiscent of a track from The Beatles’ Abbey Road. He also said “Now and Then” sounded “too schmaltzy” at one point.

Giles Martin is the son of George Martin, The Beatles’ regular producer. Making a name for his own, Giles has produced a number of classic rock projects, including remasterings of The Beatles’ Revolver and The White Album, as well as The Beatles’ new single “Now and Then.”

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at The Beatles' Now and Then, directed by Peter Jackson. It was big news recently: the final Beatles song was here, after decades of no new official singles. It's hard after all to make new music after one of your key bandmembers died. In 1994, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison tried to turn the last demo John Lennon made into a new Beatles song, called Now and Then, but to no avail. The big problem was separating the piano track from John Lennon's voice track, which was too deeply buried in the mix. Eventually though, with the advance of A.I, there were...

In the Peter Jackson-directed video for the just-released “Now and Then” — touted as the “final Beatles song” — present-day Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are pleasantly haunted by the ghosts of John Lennon and George Harrison, and even their own younger selves. It’s hard not to think that life inside McCartney and Starr’s heads is a little bit like that on a daily basis, burdened as they are by the weight of history. And they may not be alone: “I walk the city at midnight/With the past strapped to my back,...

The song has topped the charts in the UK, making the band the act with the longest ever gap between their first and last number ones.
Sixty years after their song From Me to You sat at number one, Now and Then has made it to the same position. Sir Paul McCartney told the BBC: “It’s blown my socks off!”
And the BBC reports that the tune is also this century’s fastest-selling single on vinyl. And, with McCartney, 82, and drummer Ringo Starr, 83, they are also the oldest band to hit the top spot.
The song emerged from a demo written by John Lennon back in 1978, two years before his murder in New York. His widow Yoko Ono later gave the tape to McCartney, but audio technology wasn’t adequate then to separate Lennon...

On Nov. 2, a brand-new Beatles song called "Now and Then" hit streaming services. It features contributions from all four of the band's members, in spite of the fact that John Lennon and George Harrison died decades ago.
Almost as highly publicized as the song's existence itself is the fact that it was made possible thanks to AI, which was able to split John Lennon's original 1977 demo of the song into individual tracks that could then be mixed and mastered. That work, oddly enough, is one of the more straightforward contributions that AI has made to music so far.
Look around the internet for long enough, and you might stumble upon Lana Del Rey singing Phoebe Bridgers's "I Know the End," Kanye West covering Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me," or Drake rapping to Ice Spice's "Munch." You might also find a...

In April 2022, a select group of orchestral session musicians received an offer to work on a Paul McCartney recording. It was short notice, with the session booked for May 1 at Capitol Records Studio A. The musicians who could make it said yes promptly. One was Caroline Buckman, a violist with a big, warm personality and eclectic music tastes. In her 20-odd years as a session musician, she’d performed on more than 100 recordings for Christina Aguilera, John Cale, and Harry Styles, among others. Over the years, Joe Jonas had become a good friend.

The Beatles‘ “Now and Then” was released as a single in 2023, decades after John Lennon’s death in 1980. We can never know for sure if the “Whatever Gets You Thru the Night” singer would have had an issue with his bandmates completing the record without him. However, a comment he made in 1975 suggests he would have been fine with it. In the same interview, he revealed what he thought of a rock star covering “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
John Lennon wanted unreleased Beatles songs to see the light of day
During a 1975 interview with Spin, John discussed unreleased Beatles tunes. “There are so many good singles that The Beatles wrote that were never released,” he revealed. “Why don’t people do them? It’s good for me; it’s good for Paul. It’s good for all of us.” From this comment, we can reasonably assume he would...

‘The Beatles’ legend Sir Ringo Starr was all set to open a hair salon because he didn’t think ‘The Beatles’ would “last a week”. The legendary Liverpool group’s final song, ‘Now And Then’, was released last week, some 63 years after they first formed in 1960, reports ‘Female First UK’.
The ‘Eleanor Rigby’ hitmakers — also comprised of the late frontman John Lennon and drummer George Harrison — split in 1970 and surviving members Starr, 83, and Sir Paul McCartney, 81, have admitted they didn’t anticipate lasting as long as they did.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, McCartney said: “When we started, we thought that, maybe, we’d have ten years.”
Starr said, quoted by ‘Female First UK’, “None of us thought it would last a week. Paul was going to write, I was going to open a hairdresser’s, George would get a garage. But it went on and then it ended.
