There are three generally accepted rules for living a long and happy life. 1) You don’t spit into the wind. That’s really just common sense. 2) You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. 3) By God, if you really want to live a long life, you 100%, not under any circumstances, for any reason, F*ck with John Wick’s dog. We have all learned nothing good happens from making John Wick angry. While we’ve already had one spin-off of the successful franchise, the upcoming film Ballerina promises to take us even further into the crazy underworld of one of the most fascinating franchises to emerge in a long time.
Where Did Ballerina Come From?
This film began life way back in 2017 as a stand-alone film. Shay Hatten wrote an action script with a female lead called Ballerina. The lead would be a ballerina assassin who goes on a revenge killing spree.

Calling all dudes and dudes at heart: "Den of Thieves 2" just unleashed its first action-packed trailer. Clocking in at almost 3 full minutes, this sequel to 2018's action hit looks like just what the doctor ordered, provided your doctor wants you to eat fried cheese and chug PBRs. "Den of Thieves," written and directed by Christian Gudegast, was essentially "'Heat' for dirtbags" — a big, greasy pastiche of a bunch of far better crime thrillers that came before it. It was derivative, it was silly, it was kind of amazing. The common consensus about "Den of Thieves" is that its trash — and I agree, but I don't mean that in a mean-spirited way! I love trash, especially when it's handled with care, and Gudegast worked hard to craft a surprisingly entertaining shoot-em-up about cops and robbers.

The tragedy of being the most successful person on a job is that all eyes are trained on the star. For celebrities and filmmakers, that attention and scrutiny increases tenfold due to the nature of their profession. When it comes to Hollywood in the 1990s, Julia Roberts happened to be the most in-demand A-lister after the actress’s interminable acclaim after Pretty Woman.

Soon after, Roberts’ magical reputation spread like wildfire across Hollywood with filmmakers wanting to work with her in every upcoming project. Fortunately for her, the release of Pretty Woman in 1990 was immediately followed by a role opening up in Steven Spielberg’s Disney fantasy adventure film, Hook. What happened soon after would go on to be the stuff of legends.

After a busy August with the Season 2 premiere of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which continues throughout September with new episodes through Oct. 3, “Batman: Caped Crusader,” and more, Amazon streaming services Prime Video and Freevee will have a comparably quiet September.
Most of the action for the month will come from Prime Video’s sports options. After the Sept. 5 Kickoff Game at Arrowhead Stadium with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs going up against the Baltimore Ravens, Prime Video’s third season of Thursday Night Football begins with AFC East champs Buffalo Bills taking on the Miami Dolphins in Miami. The WNBA and Nwsl also continue their seasons on Prime Video, with matches all month long from New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Angel City Fc, and more top teams.

The Blacklist remained one of the most popular shows on network television for the better part of a decade. Part of the reason for the show’s continued popularity, especially its longevity has to be lead star James Spader, who brought a sense of charm and wit to the criminal mastermind Raymond “Red” Reddington.
James Spader played the lead role in all ten seasons of The Blacklist (Credit: NBC).
Given Spader’s influence on the character and the series overall, it is hard to imagine anyone else in the role. As a result, it might shock some fans to learn that Spader wasn’t the original choice for the role of Red. Instead, Academy Award winners Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman were the ideal picks for the role. Here is everything you need to know about the casting of Red in The Blacklist.

Christopher McQuarrie is easily one of the most commendable filmmakers in Hollywood’s entire entertainment industry, having helmed masterpieces such as the Mission Impossible film series. While his innumerable action works with Tom Cruise—like Top Gun: Maverick—are one thing, he has landed award-winning pieces in the crime/thriller genre as well.

The perfect example of this is his critically acclaimed thriller/crime piece with filmmaker Bryan Singer from 1995, The Usual Suspects. To say the least, the film granted him a BAFTA and an Academy Award for his admirable excellence. But it all may not have been possible had it not been for McQuarrie’s greatest stroke of genius in creating one of the best scripts ever!

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Cheerleaders Gone… Bank Robbing?
The year 2000 was the New Hollywood of cheerleaders in film. After years of movies in which teen girls with pom poms were reduced to one-note bitches and bimbos, Y2K saw the easy-to-stereotype athletes receive a sudden rush of cinematic respect with Peyton Reed’s instant classic “Bring It On.”
Starring Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union, the story of a rivalry between two cheer squads combined an authentic love for the (extremely grueling) work of cheer captains with fun flirty comedy and a surprisingly intelligent depiction of cultural appropriation.

For over a decade, Kevin Spacey seemed untouchable. An acclaimed actor known for intense, calculating roles, he rose to become one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures. But behind the fame lay disturbing allegations, spoken only in whispers. In 2023, director Katherine Haywood set out to give those whispers a voice.
Haywood’s documentary series Spacey Unmasked shares the testimonies of ten men who encountered Spacey early in his career, through his Oscar-winning prime and beyond. Their experiences span four decades, from unknown stages to the biggest streaming hits. Though varied in when and where, a troubling pattern emerges in how Spacey allegedly used his influence to cross boundaries.
While past courts found insufficient evidence to convict, this film isn’t a trial but a chance to understand. Interviewing alleged victims with empathy, Haywood aims not to prejudge but to provide perspective. She traces Spacey’s meteoric rise alongside his troubled past,...

The luxurious waterfront home of acclaimed actor Kevin Spacey in Baltimore has been sold at a public auction for $3.24 million.
The sale was concluded on the steps of the Baltimore Circuit Court, marking the end of an era for this iconic property.
The massive 9,000-square-foot Harborview estate, previously marketed as a “magnificent mansion on the water,” was snapped up in under 10 minutes by a Maryland developer, Sam Sheibani from Compass, who acted as the winning bidder. The transaction required a $100,000 deposit from the successful purchaser.

Tom Cruise is currently immersed in the production of his forthcoming film, Mission: Impossible 8, and is once again pushing the limits of action stunts. Recently released photos from the set in Switzerland, shared by Daily Mail, capture the actor hanging off an aircraft mid-air, a testament to his commitment to performing high-octane stunts himself.
The viral photos on X depict Cruise clinging to the wings of the aircraft, including a particularly dramatic shot of the plane inverted with Cruise hanging on. A production team helicopter was seen flying in close proximity, ensuring the scene’s execution and safety.
Tom Cruise fan account shared the post and captioned, “#TomCruise and #EsaiMorales on the set of #MissionImpossible 8 yesterday! 15.07.2024.”
This isn’t the first time Cruise has performed mid-air stunts for the Mission: Impossible franchise. In 2018, he executed a daring helicopter stunt for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, a sequence that left audiences thrilled.

Kevin Spacey is set to be honored with a trophy for a voice role in the 2023 U.K. action thriller Control by the Folkestone Independent Film Awards on July 20.
On Monday, organizers of the British indie film awards confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the House of Cards star is set to win a best performance trophy for his role in Control. The British action thriller, written and directed by Gene Fallaize, did not have Spacey on screen, but rather the two-time Oscar winner instead had a voice role with a menacing presence in the film.
The British indie film awards event also touted Spacey’s performance and award on its Instagram and Facebook pages. The producers of Control cast Spacey in late 2022 as he awaited his London criminal trial over multiple counts of sexual assault. The British legal proceeding ended with the embattled Hollywood actor cleared of all charges.

Francine Maisler, longtime collaborator with Aaron Sorkin and Steven Soderbergh and casting director for “The Revenant,” “The Big Short,” “Little Women,” “Dune” and “The Bikeriders,” says she’s always been obsessed with performance.

Kevin Spacey will be honored with the Nations Award for Lifetime Achievement at a special gala evening in the historic southern Italian town of Taormina in July.
The organizers said The Usual Suspects and American Beauty Oscar winner will also give a short on-stage performance at the event, taking place on July 21 in Taormina’s 4,000-seats Greek-roman Theatre.
The event, which is part of a program of cultural events running in the landmark ancient amphitheater across the summer, is not connected to the Taormina Film Festival, which runs from July 12 to 19.

Farting is the great human equalizer.
We all do it (this includes Mr. Josh Brolin on the set of Denis Villenueve's "Dune"), and, when in the company of others, we try to do it as discreetly and politely as possible. If it's possible to step outside at a social gathering and expel one's gaseous accumulation, I'd like to think everyone reading this would choose this option. But sometimes quarters get tight, and the urge is too great to resist. We're caught, and the pressure built up in our bowels is involuntarily assuaged. If it's a noisy environment, you might get away with what we call "crop dusting," which entails maneuvering oneself to another area of the room and hoping someone else gets sniffed out as the culprit.
Sometimes, however, it's dead silent, and you're plainly the one who has, in flatulence parlance, dealt it.
This is never less than embarrassing,...

Kevin Spacey, a name once synonymous with phenomenal talent & award-winning performances, continues to command our attention despite the shadow cast by allegations of s*xual impropriety that emerged in 2017.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 8 costar Shea Whigham chose to have a scene with the legendary star rather than to have a bigger trailer or payday. He plays US Intelligence Agent Jasper Briggs in the famed action franchise, and fortunately, he got his wish.

Carrie Coon and Shea Whigham Talk Their ‘Fargo’ Reunion in ‘Lake George’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 8’
Lake George co-stars Carrie Coon and Shea Whigham are actors’ actors. They’re highly regarded by their peers, and they elevate every project they’re a part of, whether it’s an indie, a blockbuster or a prestigious cable series. And as soon as the audience sees them on the big or small screen, they immediately know they’re in good hands with the two reliable actors. The duo first worked together on season three of Noah Hawley’s Emmy-nominated Fargo series, and they spent six years trying to reunite until the SAG strike in the summer of 2023 presented a unique opportunity to do just that by way of an interim agreement.
The result is Jeffrey Reiner’s comedic neo-noir Lake George, which premieres tonight at New York City’s Tribeca Festival. The writer-director — who previously worked with Whigham and his daughter Giorgia on a 2018 episode of Dirty John — sent...

Teri Hayden, an Irish talent agent who launched the careers of Gabriel Byrne (“The Usual Suspects”), Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and more, died in Dublin on April 18 following a long illness. She was 75.
Hayden’s career first began in the early 1980s when she noticed there was a demand for expanding actors’ representation in Ireland. “Coming from a background of finance she intuited that Irish theatre, television and film were about to expand though there was little evidence for this at the time. Soon she became Ireland’s premier agent and rapidly won respect and recognition in a then mostly male preserve,” James Byron, a friend of the family, wrote in a statement.
“Never one to seek the limelight, she was however a fearless negotiator, determined to secure the best possible deal for her clients. She was also responsible for anonymously brokering projects even when she had no stake in the production.

Kevin Spacey is facing another sexual assault trial in the UK next year, but today the two-time Oscar winner saw some major star power in his corner.
Liam Neeson, Sharon Stone and Stephen Fry have come forward with unequivocal support for Spacey as the much-accused actor has been back in the spotlight via new Channel 4 docuseries with even more allegations of severe misconduct.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him,” Taken franchise star Neesom told the Telegraph today. “Kevin is a good man and a man of character. He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humour. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera.
“Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly,” Neeson, no total stranger to controversy himself, concluded.
Basic Instinct star Stone told the UK broadsheet: “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work.

There is no doubt the typical movie villains are those who are less appealing and not as clever as the protagonists, who must win over them. However, there are some evil characters which are even superior to the good guys in terms of their intelligence.
Here are 7 of the most voiced examples of the extremely intelligent onscreen villains, chosen by Redditors in a recent discussion.
7. Se7en (1995) - John Doe
Kevin Spacey’s serial killer is always ahead of the detectives, while committing his chilling murders inspired by the seven deadly sins. The police don't even know his real name, and when finally catching him, they realize his scheme worked out against them.

Actor Kevin Spacey had been at the peak of his career when he was accused of s*xual assault and was put on trial. Many reports of assault and misconduct came out as part of the Weinstein Effect, which led him to lose out on most of his acting commitments at the time. The actor was also dropped from his long-running Netflix show House of Cards.
Spacey was reportedly cleared of his charges in 2023 and was ready to get back to work again. The two-time Oscar winner won his first Academy Award for his performance as Verbal Kint in Bryan Singer’s cult classic The Usual Suspects. The character was reportedly written with Spacey in mind as he was not too famous at the time, which would have given the twist away.

Max is bringing one of 2024’s most talked-about docuseries to its platform as a trailer teasing the Spacey Unmasked docuseries debuts. The preview drops almost one year since Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey was found not guilty of sex crimes. The U.S. presentation arrives courtesy of Channel 4 and Max, with Oscar-nominee Mike Lerner producing alongside ex-Channel 4 News boss Dorothy Byrne. The two-part docuseries begins airing on Monday, May 6 and concludes on May 7.
According to Channel 4, Spacey Unmasked “investigates Spacey’s conduct and talks to multiple men unconnected to [last year’s] case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before.”
Spacey Unmasked examines the famed actor from films like Se7en, The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, and more through never-before-seen interviews and archive footage. The doc travels back to Spacey’s youth and early days on Broadway. It also reflects on the actor taking...

Warning: This article contains a massive spoiler for "Abigail."
Taste is obviously subjective, but for my money, "Abigail" is one of the best horror movies of 2024. It's been a few years since we've had a truly great vampire movie, and this part-crime thriller, part-comedy, part-gothic horror, part-gorefest has set the bar for vampire films in the 2020s. A group of criminals — Melissa Barrera as Joey, Dan Stevens as Frank, Kathryn Newton as Sammy, William Catlett as Rickles, Kevin Durand as Peter, and Angus Cloud as Dean — are tasked with kidnapping Abigail (Alisha Weir) and holding her for ransom, believing her rich father will happily trade funds for the safekeeping of his baby girl. Unfortunately for the group, Abigail is a vampire, and this kidnapping plot is a trap to allow her some fun before devouring them all in a gigantic feast.

Dancing ballet en Pointe is arguably one of the hardest styles of dance to perfect. It takes years of training and rigorous dedication to master the move, and even still, without the support of pointe shoes, the body alone is not enough to withstand the pressure of the weight of a full human on such a small surface area. Ballet en Pointe can be hell on the body — especially the feet — but when executed properly, it looks absolutely effortless. In "Abigail," the incredible new horror film from the creative collective known as Radio Silence, a group of criminals are tasked with kidnapping a small girl named Abigail and holding her for ransom only to discover that they've been set up, and Abigail is a vampire who has locked them in her mansion of horrors to "play with her food" before devouring them all.

We typically think of any actor who has appeared in movies and television as having it made, but that’s not the case for most working actors. In fact, before Giancarlo Esposito landed the role of Gus Fring on Breaking Bad, he was so broke that he was considering arranging his own murder for the life insurance money.
While speaking on Sirius Xm’s Jim & Sam show, Giancarlo Esposito revealed that the year before Breaking Bad, he was in dire financial straits and desperately looking for a way out. “My way out in my brain was…’Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide? Do they get the bread?’” Esposito said. “My wife had no idea why I was asking this stuff. I started scheming. If I got somebody to knock me off, death by misadventure, [my kids] would get the insurance. I had four kids. I wanted them to have a life.

Big changes could be coming to the Sundance Film Festival, an incubator of (mostly) American independent film for decades, and the launchpad for Oscar-winning movies like “Coda,” “Manchester By The Sea,” “Whiplash,” “Winter’s Bone,” “The Usual Suspects” and many more. (The number of movies to debut at Sundance that were Oscar-nominated in some category or another is too long to list.) Long associated with the upscale ski resort of Park City, Utah, it looks like the annual event may be thinking of moving elsewhere.
The primary reason cited is that the event is simply “too big” for the small community.
The festival has opened itself up for bidding from hosts, eyeing 2027 as a potential new start date. As per Deadline, other locations can put forth their proposals now through May 1, and a second round will continue through late June. The evaluation will be based in part on “sustainability and inclusivity.

A motley crew of criminals gets more than they bargained for when the 12-year-old ballerina they kidnapped for a $50 million ransom turns out to be a bloodthirsty vampire in Abigail, the latest film from the Radio Silence trio of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and producer Chad Villella. With Abigail recently having its world premiere in New Orleans at the Overlook Film Festival ahead of its April 19th theatrical release via Universal Pictures, Daily Dead had the chance to talk with Matt and Tyler before the world premiere to discuss the vampire and crime film influences behind their horror heist genre mashup, filming in the historic (and potentially haunted) Glenmaroon House in Ireland, working with a star-studded ensemble, and the full-circle emotions of screening Abigail in New Orleans after shooting their first feature in the Big Easy more than a decade ago.

Most filmmakers would kill to have a track record like the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence. Breaking in with the anthology horror films "V/H/S" and "Southbound" as well as the found footage flick "Devil's Due," the crew skyrocketed to new heights with the crowd-pleasing horror-comedy favorite "Ready or Not," which more than proved they were capable of taking over the reins for "Scream V" and "Scream VI." Now, collective co-founders Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back in their directors' chairs for an original horror story, unleashing the balls-to-the-wall "Abigail," aka "the ballerina vampire movie." The trailer alone had already firmly placed this on my most anticipated films list of 2024, but my deep love of "Ready or Not" meant my expectations were sky-high. And yet, somehow, those wild Radio Silence boys knocked this out of the park and into the stratosphere, crafting arguably their best film yet.

The devil and his minions crop up in a rash of new horror films, from Deliver Us and Immaculate to reboots of The Exorcist and The Omen. What does this tell us about our current anxieties?
Let’s hear it for the diabolically entertaining Late Night With the Devil, the latest example of the Ghostwatch school of things going horribly wrong on live TV. It’s a stunning exercise in sweaty desperation from the always brilliant David Dastmalchian, as a 1970s chatshow host whose ratings grab goes south when he makes the mistake of inviting a demonically possessed cult survivor on to his show. From “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” to “The Usual Suspects” and “Do the Right Thing,” Giancarlo Esposito has long been involved in some of the biggest, buzziest projects across TV, film and even video games. That’s why it’s surprising to see him finally lead his own prestige TV project now with “Parish.” Not only does Esposito star as the titular character of the AMC crime thriller, but the series also marks the actor’s first time as an executive producer.

When Hugh Jackman bid farewell to his iconic role as Wolverine in the 2017 flick Logan, fans were struck by a bittersweet feeling. The movie proved to be an appropriate goodbye to the much-loved character, revealing a more vulnerable and emotional side to the clawed mutant. However, what many fans might not know is that The Wolverine couldn’t have taken place if Fox had adhered to their original plan to have Darren Aronofsky helm the 2013 flick.
The Wolverine, a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was originally slated to be directed by Aronofsky, who is best known for his dark and intense movies like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream. But, as fate would have it, the director eventually dropped out of the project in order to allow James Mangold to step in and take the reins.

Not that long ago, a dark thriller featuring Kevin Spacey as a smooth-talking stranger who arrives in a small town with an apparent vendetta against one of its inhabitants might have been a major movie event. He was, after all, a hugely popular and critically acclaimed actor, known for playing iconic villains from The Usual Suspects and Seven all the way up through House of Cards. His gift for intimate, Shakespearean malice could certainly boost a box-office haul.

Mac Sinise, the son of Forrest Gump actor Gary Sinise, has died at 33.
A tribute revealed that McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise was diagnosed with “a very rare” form of cancer called Chordoma.
Mac was diagnosed in 2018 and passed away earlier this winter.
His diagnosis came just two months after Moira Sinise (Gary’s wife) was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
Moira went through chemotherapy and radiation and has been in remission and cancer-free since then.
Mac had surgery to remove a tumor a month after his diagnosis, but after further treatment, the cancer returned and spread.

Mac had surgery to remove a tumor a month after his diagnosis, but after further treatment, the cancer returned and spread.

Indie film studio and distribution company Good Deed Entertainment (Gde) has announced this week that they have wrapped production on their inaugural original production, the horror trilogy Fresh Hell. Just completed, the three feature-length films in the series are eyeing a summer 2024 release via Gde’s horror vertical Cranked Up Films.
Fresh Hell is a three-feature film anthology series from writer/director Quinn Armstrong; the films are titled Dead Teenagers, The Exorcism of Saint Patrick, and Wolves Against the World, each different film said to be “linked by time and space.”
“The first horror movie I ever remember watching was Creepshow and I still think that horror anthologies are the backbone of the genre,” says Armstrong. “It’s been such a pleasure to work in the tradition of horror anthologies to create Fresh Hell, an anthology of features with a modern twist.”
The unique horror trilogy is said to “lovingly...

Throughout the 96-year history of the Academy Awards, the amount of acting lineups consisting only of first-time nominees has reached 37, or about 10% of the overall total. While that number may not seem high in a general sense, these cases actually outnumber those exclusively involving veteran contenders by a ratio of three to one. However, although this list expanded as recently as 2023, rookie-only acting lineups are gradually becoming less common than veteran-only ones, the amount of which has nearly doubled within the last dozen years.
Whereas 75% of veteran-only acting quintets have involved lead performers rather than supporting ones, almost the exact opposite is true of lineups full of newcomers. For instance, only one existing case of the former kind concerns supporting actresses, whereas the same category has produced 15 rookie-only rosters. The last such group consisted of 2000 winner Angelina Jolie and nominees Toni Collette (“The Sixth Sense”), Catherine Keener (“Being John Malkovich...

Kevin Spacey plays a killer with no moral compass in the official trailer for Peter Five Eight, which marks his first leading role since his career imploded amid allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017.
Spacey’s assassin character, Peter, has a comedic streak as he’s called to a small mountain community to find a seemingly glamorous real estate agent with a dark secret, played by Jet Jandreau.
Peter targets Brenda, played by Rebecca de Mornay, for information at the urging of his powerful and shadowy boss, Mr. Lock, played by Jake Weber. Before long, guns are drawn and fired and car chases abound in the trailer as blood splatters and explosions disturb the sleepy town. Michael Zaiko Hall directs the feature.
