Exclusive: MTV Entertainment Studios has closed a multi-year overall deal extension with Dave Erickson, writer, executive producer and showrunner on the studio’s Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner. The drama, co-created/executive produced by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, has opened a Season 4 writers room in anticipation of a renewal, sources said. Like all series in the Sheridan universe, Mtve Studios produces Mayor Of Kingstown in partnership with 101 Studios.
Under the new pact, Erickson will continue on Mayor Of Kingstown, which he joined at the start of Season 2, in addition to writing and executive producing new scripted series across the Paramount Global portfolio. (Erickson already is developing projects with 101 Studios.) He may also work on other existing Mtve Studios/101 Studios series from Taylor Sheridan, like Tulsa King.

Netflix is expiring a slew of movies and TV shows in February -- but don't panic! As we previously reported, several BBC series including "Doctor Who" and the original British "The Office" that were once set to leave Netflix on Feb. 1 are staying put. However, several other BBC titles will be disappearing Feb 1. According to Variety, bid a sad toodle-doo to "Fawlty Towers," "Blackadder" and "Mi:5." (Don't worry, "Sherlock" isn't due to expire anytime soon.)
As for movies, the clock is ticking on "Zodiac," "Batman Returns," "Apocalypse Now," and "Mad Max," which will also be pulled in the monthly purge.
Here's the complete list of titles that will vanish from your streaming list (pending any sort of meddling time-travelers):

"Airheads" (1994)

I was all set for this week's The Good Wife to be a downright quaint episode, but it spiraled into an hour of contentious, near-histrionic bliss. Didn't the setup seem adorable? Alicia and Cary, precious pals who play footsie and switch lunches at recess, are pitted on a team against Will and Diane in a mock trial courtroom case for a choosy energy drink client who pays for a scrimmage version of his hearing. Aw, Cary and Alicia vs. Will and Diane! Tag team testifiers! Will Diane wear a threatening halter top like Trish Stratus? I drew up some sketches just in case.
Unfortunately, the scrimmage rivalry Comes Alive (quoth Goosebumps) when Alicia and Cary's firm partnerships are postponed a year as a way of saving the firm some interim money. Cary uses his dimples to think of a plan, and he's got a dynamite one: He and Alicia could form their own firm,...

Too bad Julianna Margulies doesn't really have a whole law firm at her disposal. The Emmy winner was sued today by her former managers, who claim that they helped hook her up with her starring role on The Good Wife, as well as a cosmetics endorsement deal, and now she has stopped paying them their fair share of her earnings. So, just how much does plaintiff D/F Management want from the actress? The company is demanding $420,000 in unpaid commission from Margulies—who, the lawsuit states, hired D/F in 2009 to help her "re-emerge as a prominent leading actress" after her previous series, Canterbury's Law, was canceled after only six episodes. The Good Wife premiered in 2009, and...

ABC's "Beauty and the Beast" has found its "Beauty" in Ruth Bradley (upcoming "Titanic" miniseries). Bradley will star alongside the already-cast Darius Campbell, Chris Egan and Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham. [TV Line]
Amber Stevens ("Greek") and Leah Renee ("The Playboy Club") have been cast in the CW drama "Joey Dakota," which tells the love story of Maya (Stevens), a documentary filmmaker who travels back in time to the 1990s, meets and falls in love with the subject of her film, a rock star presumably named Joey Dakota. When she returns to present day, she now must find a way back to prevent his death. Renee plays Kelsey, one of Maya's good friends.

After spending many years on ER, Julianna Margulies left life as a series regular 10 years ago. She went on to guest roles on shows like The Sopranos and returned to weekly television as the star of Fox's Canterbury's Law. The legal drama only lasted six episodes. She tried the genre again this season on CBS and has had much better luck.
The Good Wife revolves around the wife (Margulies) of a disgraced State Attorney (Chris Noth). She returns to work to rebuild her reputation and provide for her children. The series also stars Matt Czuchry, Archie Panjabi, Graham Phillips, Makenzie Vega, Mary Beth Peil, Josh Charles, and Christine Baranski.
The series has the plum spot on the schedule following the very successful NCIS: Los Angeles. Good Wife debuted to 13.71 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Those numbers...

While working as a homicide prosecutor in Boston a decade ago, Pam Wechsler was contacted by producers of ABC's Boston-set legal drama "The Practice" for information about her cases. The collaboration inspired her to write specs for "Practice" and "Law & Order."
With the Justice Department, she came to Los Angeles for a grand jury and, when done, ran to the Universal lot to meet with showrunner Walon Green for a new series, NBC's "Law & Order: Trial by Jury."
She was hired as legal consultant and ended her 15-year career as a high-level attorney and a prosecutor for a shot at becoming a writer. But the series was canceled after 13 episodes.
"It's very different from working for the government," she quipped.
Wechsler stuck with TV writing, landing gigs at "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Canterbury's Law," and now, she is developing her first project, a drama for Lifetime.

Julianna Margulies was the only ER cast member to win an Emmy, which makes it all the more surprising that her career after leaving the show in 2000 is so sparse. Now, following the quick demise of her 2008 show Canterbury's Law, Margulies stars in another lawyer-centric drama, The Good Wife, a recovery tale of a shamed politician's wife who returns to work as a defense attorney to save face and support her kids. While this show boasts none of the urgency or originality of ER's legendary first episode, there's enough in tonight's premiere to suggest that the onetime Carol Hathaway could become a fixture in living rooms yet again.

Well, you've seen CBS' tensely edited promos, in which Margulies slaps Chris Noth with much gusto. It doesn't exactly look like a legal drama, does it? The actress, who won an Emmy for her role as ice-cold nurse Carol Hathaway on ER, reports that...

Who: Leading lady Julianna Margulies and exec producers Robert and Michelle King Premise: Imagine if Elizabeth Edwards left her adulterous husband and became a high-powered lawyer. One of the strongest drama pilots of the year, Imho. Added bonus: There's a Gilmore Girls connection (Matt Czuchry's in it)! 10:01 am/Pst: Margulies is late! But she runs on stage giggling and being cute so all's forgiven. 10:03 am: Margulies really did slap co-star Chris Noth (a.k.a. the lyin', cheating spouse) in the pilot. "He was like, 'Oh, please. I've been hit so many times.'" 10:07 am: On doing the The Good Wife so soon after the failure of her last legal drama, Fox's Canterbury's Law: "I wasn't eager at all to get back into a court drama because they're hard... in the shooting process and the language of it. But I found incredibly different." Biggest difference: This one's good!

Fox has decided to cut short the run of New Amsterdam, the dramatic TV show about an immortal cop from the Big Apple.
The series has had a rough ride at the network. Amsterdam was initially scheduled for Fall 2007 but was pushed back to mid-season. On top of that, Fox cut its episode order from 13 to eight episodes.
On the positive side, the series was scheduled for an unpopular Friday night timeslot but was ultimately given a shot on Monday nights.
Amsterdam's season average of 8.34 million weekly viewers isn't great but it certainly outperformed and outlasted Canterbury's Law.
Though Fox considered continuing the story of John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) for another year, the network ultimately decided his story had come to an end. Still, Amsterdam executive producer David Manson hopes that the series will live on and find a new home on another network. Will that...

Nets swing, miss in midseason
cripted TV hits are slowly coming back from their strike-imposed hiatuses. The return couldn't have come soon enough for the broadcast networks, which have struggled with the launch of 10 new comedies and dramas during the past three months.
From NBC's "quarterlife" to Fox's Canterbury's Law, the midseason battleground this year is strewn with programming casualties.
Midseason often is reserved for rolling out questionable shows that didn't make the networks' cut for fall. (though Fox has regularly held off promising new entries to launch around midseason heavyweights American Idol and "24"). Yet at least a couple of shows typically find an audience. ABC's Grey's Anatomy and CBS' Rules of Engagement, The Unit, Numbers and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" are examples of successful midseason debuts from yesteryear.
But with the networks' scripted mainstays sidelined by the strike, often replaced by reality fare, midseaosn 2008 was far from typical.
"You want to launch midseason shows from other scripted shows," ABC exec vp scheduling Jeff Bader said. " 'Eli Stone' had 'Lost' as a lead-in and has done better than most, but other than that, shows were launching out of reality. That said, I don't know if this year is any worse than other years."
This season, the midseason scripted batting average has been modest: CBS took one bite at the apple with the February comedy Welcome to the Captain. Airing amid repeats of its Monday night comedy block, Captain was sunk after five episodes.

After two weeks on the air, Fox has decided to shift its new Monday night legal drama, Canterbury's Law, to Friday nights.
The Julianna Margulies series has been garnering terrible ratings so the move certainly comes as no surprise. The series' premiere on March 10th attracted just 7.7 million and a dismal 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 -- the network's lowest-rated premiere for that time-period in the history of the network. The second episode's viewership for 18-49 was essentially the same but total viewers dropped to 5.7 million.
With numbers like these, it's no surprise that Fox has sentenced the series to Friday nights. It's essentially a done deal that Canterbury's won't be back for another season. With four episodes left, it seems likely that the network won't even let the show finish airing all of its episodes.
Interestingly, both Canterbury's and New Amsterdam were originally slated for Friday nights but they were...

Fox moves 'Canterbury's Law'
Two weeks after its debut, Fox is moving legal drama Canterbury's Law from Monday nights to Friday.
Starting next week, "Law" will be replaced by repeats of House.
For its March 10 debut, Canterbury's had a 1.7 rating among adults 18 to 49, Fox's lowest-rated premiere ever in the time period. This week, Canterbury's was flat.
Fox's midseason scripted dramas Canterbury's and New Amsterdam were originally scheduled for Friday, then Fox moved them to a more visible time period when the writers strike made scripted programming a scarce commodity.
Amsterdam has held up better than Canterbury's, averaging a 2.4, but still has come in fourth place for the hour.

Fox squashes all nets with double 'Idol'
Once again, Fox dominated across the TV universe as the John Lennon/Paul McCartney-themed editions of American Idol netted another decisive weekly win for the network.
The performance and results Idol shows respectively averaged 29.9 million viewers and an 11 rating/28 share among adults 18-49 and 27.1 million, 10.3/26, topping the weekly program charts by a wide margin.
Additionally, Fox's provocative new reality show The Moment of Truth (10.6 million, 4.2/12) had a successful transplant to its new 8 p.m. Wednesday slot leading into Idol.
But it wasn't all good news for Fox as the legal drama Canterbury's Law stumbled in its premiere Monday night, the first weeknight of daylight-saving time, which wreaked havoc on early-evening viewership.
"Law" (7.7 million, 1.7/5) was Fox's lowest-rated premiere on record in the 8 p.m. Monday time period. Although the time change was a factor in the small viewer turnout for the show, "Law" fared worse than its competition in the hour, finishing fourth among the major broadcast networks.

Extra sunshine makes dent in primetime
The premiere of Fox's legal drama Canterbury's Law fell into a hole Monday night, as the first weeknight of daylight-saving time wreaked havoc with early evening viewership.
Canterbury's (7.6 million viewers, 1.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and a 5 share) was Fox's lowest-rated premiere on record in the its time period. Although DST resulted in a low-rated 8 p.m. hour, Canterbury's also came in fourth place compared to the other major broadcast networks. At 9 p.m., Fox's time period premiere of New Amsterdam (8.8 million, 2.5/6) fared slightly better, but was down 22% from the most recent four-week average rating of Terminator in the time period.
Overall, CBS led the night with repeats and a pair of original episodes of New Adventures of Old Christine (7.5 million, 2.7/7 and 9.4 million, 3.3/8) that won their time periods at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., respectively. A repeat of Two and a Half Men (11.7 million, 3.8/10) was the highest-rated show of the night.

"Canterbury's Law" (7 p.m. Monday, Wfld-Ch. 32) is one of those shows that has you making comparisons almost from the first moment. The main character, Elizabeth Canterbury ( Julianna Margulies), is as unorthodox in her methods as Dr. Gregory House of Fox's "House." She drives a Porsche and likes to drink, like Grace Hanadarko of "Saving Grace." Like Patty Hewes of Fx's "Damages," she's a hard-driving lawyer who'll go to extreme lengths to win a case.
Though it's competently made and catches fire dramatically from time to time, "Canterbury's Law" doesn't have quite as much dramatic depth as those other shows do at their best.
All three programs are also anchored by deeply compelling actors, and though Margulies is up to the challenge of playing an edgy attorney, she doesn't have the guarded, interior quality that Hugh Laurie brings to "House" or the flinty intensity that Glenn Close gives Hewes on "Damages.

Margulies: 'Dentist Is To Thank For My New TV Role'
Actress Julianna Margulies credits her dentist with landing her the lead role in new U.S. TV drama Canterbury's Law.
The former E.R. star was visiting her New York dentist when she spotted Denis Leary in the waiting room and introduced herself to the actor.
And just one week later, Leary - who is an executive producer on Canterbury's Law - cast Margulies in the show's lead role - as a tough defence attorney.
She says, "My dentist is like my surrogate father, and I had no idea Denis goes to the same dentist. So I see him, I go up and say hi, and a week later, I realise I'm working for him. Ok, that's weird."
Leary adds, "I ran into her there (at the dentist), she was coming out, I was going in. I was a big admirer of her work, and we chatted for five minutes. She was funny and sweet."...

Fox primps its midseason schedule
Fox has tweaked its strike-affected midseason schedule, upgrading the time periods for new dramas New Amsterdam and Canterbury's Law and giving two midseason series, Amsterdam and The Return of Jezebel James, previews behind American Idol.
Fox was the first network to rejigger its midseason lineup on Nov. 7, the third day of the writers strike, and has made the most dramatic strike-related scheduling move, keeping the incomplete season of 24 on the shelf until next season.
Two months later, as the work stoppage is shaping up to be a long one, Fox brass took another look at its scheduling plans, said Fox's scheduling chief Preston Beckman.
"As we have new information on our needs, we thought it was time to adjust the schedule," he said. "We want to make sure we give all new shows every opportunity to find an audience because we may need them."
Amsterdam and Canterbury's were originally slated to air in the Friday 9 p.m. time period, premiering Feb. 22 and Apr. 11, respectively.
Now both shows have been relocated to Monday 9 p.m.
