Listen, this is not a movie to go in expecting a fresh experience. It's a pulpy action comedy with Cena and Awkafina doing what they do best. It's breezy and fun to watch, and the length of the movie is perfect for a lazy afternoon or night to while the time away. It was never meant to be more than that, and it delivers where it counts. The action is quick, the dialogues are mostly witting, the screenplay is pacing, and the supporting cast are fantastic.
The movie takes the concept from The Purge, adds a jackpot element to it, and turns it into a straight-out comedy. The concept works, and the movie doesn't take much time to get going.
I really liked the movie and I guess you need to be in a certain mood to enjoy this. It's way better than similar movies which are just pure garbage made half-heartedly to cash in a pay cheque.
Special shoutout to Ayden Mayeri as Shadi, who steals the show in every scene she is in. Hope to see more of her in the future.

I had a fun time watching this film! Not sure if people were expecting Citizen Kane, but I feel like this delivered on the laughs and enjoyment anyone could want from this. Cena is a true comedic powerhouse and this might be Awkwafina's best role since The Farewell. I usually find her fairly annoying, but she was solid here.
There haven't been a ton of great studio comedies in recent years, and yes this isn't top tier, but it's no worse than most of the bankable comedies from the mid 00s. Paul Feig has a great track record and he hits another single (double?) with Jackpot! I hope people give this a shot, as Cena really goes all out and commits with his comedic roles.

A movie that doesn't require much thought and definitely has a few too many toilet humour jokes and somewhat cringy dialogue, but overall still pretty exciting, thrilling, and a lot of fun to watch with well choreographed action that was never boring, keeping you on your toes, and an endearing performance from John Cena as Noel, who was just a genuinely fun, sweet and quirky character.
Sure, it's not groundbreaking, it's not overly surprising in the direction it went, and it could've explored its concept and the implications of it more thoroughly, especially the horror of it, (warning, parts of it get brutal/dark but more in a cartoonish supervillain way?), but hey, that's not the type of movie it is, not the type I expected it to be, and that's fine.
It had a lot of humour that didn't hit but also a lot that did, it had characters I was rooting for, good pacing, scenes that made me feel on the edge of my seat; it made me laugh and make various oh and *gasp* noises, and be like did you see that?? To my family, so all in all, a stupid good time. Slightly unnerving in concept. Kinda like an old fashioned violent cartoon.👍

I was looking for a movie I could watch to relax and pass the time and Amazon suggested Jackpot!, so I decided to give it a try without expecting much.
It's definitely not the kind of film that will make you think much or learn things, but it's entertaining, with lots of action, quite good acting and decent screenplay. The idea of the film reminds me of The Purge, without the horror / gore aspect .
The movie is actually a comedy, so there isn't much blood or deaths, which is appreciable from time to time. Some scenes and lines are funny and the actors (that we know but aren't ultra famous) give a good performance. The movie moves at a fast pace and even though we know from the start how the film's gonna end I had a good time watching it.
I thought it was a pretty good portrayal of the society we live in (people would do anything for easy money) and it made me wonder what I would do if I ran into that girl... I guess there was a little mental effort provided there!
So yes, the film is a bit stupid and won't take much brainpower, but if you want to chill in front of a nice action comedy, then go for it.

Honestly, the negative reviews must be from the most sour individuals. This movie isn't trying to be Citizen Kane-it's pure, hilarious fun from start to finish. The film embraces its brainless entertainment value, and it's clear that everyone involved had a blast making it. Highly recommended for a popcorn movie night. John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu deliver fantastic performances, bringing nonstop laughs. It's also great to see Liu and Awkwafina together again after Shang-Chi. If you're in the mood for a light, enjoyable watch, this is it. The bloopers at the end of the movie make it all the more enjoyable.

5.6/10 (Kind of Recommend)
Categorized as an action and comedy film, this movie entertains quite well all the way through. There are very few slow moments throughout. The comedy isn't top notch, but if you enjoy hearing John Cena get bashed about his size then you might get a chuckle or two out.
The chemistry is good and the cast seem to have great motivation to at least entertain. I liked Awkwafina's humour. She plays the role of mouse well while John Cena is just being his own self as a friendly giant who wants to help.
The story isn't special, and doesn't do anything to standout from films similar to it. The events aren't even believable especially how the outcome is achieved, but that's the fun in films, they don't always have to make sense. They can just entertain for a couple hours. I would definitely watch this one again just for the fun I experienced despite my lower rating.
Overall, kind of recommend. It's not a one-of-a-kind film, but it certainly entertains, and so long as you're not a rigid person to comedy, you should find some hilarity to it. Well cast, good chemistry, and seemingly great motivation to entertain despite the low believability of the story. Still, I would watch again.
That's it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!

This was not a bad movie at all and i honestly don't get the hate it's receiving... it's a very fun and entertaining movie for what it is... It was action from start to finish and it did not disappoint. The plot may not be all the way solid but it is a breath of fresh air for comedy...this is (in a way) a fun "purge" kind of movie when you think about it... the fight scenes were very good but a little unrealistic but like i stated before it's just completely a fun movie to watch... i especially love the end of the movie(the after credits)... cover art is unappealing in my opinion so i would recommend you just give this a try because you won't be disappointed...

Another low effort canned Hollywood comedy, this film offers nothing new to the genre. Its predictable plot and reliance on tired clichés are a testament to the industry's current state of creativity, pretty expect by Paul Feig. The jokes are as stale as day-old bread, and the characters are cardboard cutouts devoid of depth or originality.
Unoriginal and full of basic overly safe comedy for the masses, this film insults the intelligence of its audience. It's clear that the filmmakers were more concerned with catering to the lowest common denominator than creating something genuinely funny. The humor is juvenile or blad with complete absence of wit or cleverness.
Overall, this movie is a complete waste of time. It's a soulless product churned out by a Hollywood machine that seems more interested in profit than art. Avoid this cinematic atrocity at all costs and save yourself the headache. There are countless other, far superior comedies out there that deserve your attention.

I would have never pictured these two characters together as the leads of a big movie but here we are. And I'm loving it!
If you expect some super smart comedy full of unexpected twists and turns to come out of Amazon Prime with these two as the main stars.... then the joke is on you. This wasn't stupid but it certainly won't make you stop and contemplate your existence. It's silly, ridiculous, funny, original *enough*, and the acting is quite good. The funny thing is, I don't think most people even got the joke. Which is that people will absolutely turn on each other in seconds when money is involved. The nice lady on the bus suddenly turning into a serial killer... I mean, c'mon, we all know a lady like that who's stabbed us in the back. It's funny but kinda very true too.

Wow, just Wow... the main actress/character is one the most unfunny people I've seen on the screen in some time. It was like she was trying to perform a standup routine the whole time and just makes sad unfunny wisecracks in response to everything that is happening.
I knew John Cena was going downhill with his career choices but Paul Feig did some great movies once upon a time, sadly that time has passed. The direction is really lacking and has no real heart or soul to the movie at all. Not one character is developed enough to care anything about them.
This is just an indictment of the times where all these streaming services have to produce new content as a way to keep taking peoples money every month but they are beyond scraping the bottom of the barrel with this rubbish.
I'm guessing a lot of people have to been paid to offer positive reviews to this movie, or are related to someone in the movie, 'cause there is no way it's more than a 2 out of 10.
Don't be surprised if this gains Razzie nominations for Worst Actress, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay when the time comes.
Do yourself a favour and don't waste 106 minutes of your life on this "Action Comedy" rubbish.

Prime auto played this after I finished another movie and...I am so glad it did.
I was a bit confused at the very beginning but as predictable as it was, John Cena and Akwafina were great together. Just enough to laugh at, love John Cena humour. I enjoy action movies and this one had some really great, cringy action scenes. Just the right mix of good and evil with a drop of crazy.
Would suggest you grab some trashy snacks a blankie and watch, don't think, just watch. Was never advertised as a life changing doco, think the thumbnail pointed everyone in the right direction. No need for the bad reviews, it's just a bit of fun.
Watch, don't think, just WATCH.

John Cena's latest venture, a surprisingly enjoyable ride despite its lackluster plot. The film treads through a series of absurdly comedic scenarios that often stretch believability to its breaking point, but Cena's charm and comedic timing manage to salvage the entertainment value. The action sequences are over-the-top in the best way possible, featuring Cena in a myriad of chaotic situations that are both ridiculous and hilarious. While the storyline might not hold up under scrutiny, the film's fast pace and Cena's performance make it a fun popcorn flick. Not a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch, but it delivers good laughs and light-hearted escapism.

Not much is to be said about "Jackpot!" - it's a film about a woman trying to survive 24 hours in order to win a multimillion dollar jackpot. Basically, 95% of the film is unimaginative cartoon violence. The audience is thrown into the plot rather swiftly and from there it lingers on until the end, without any major plot twists or character developments. Given how few jokes that lands well, it's hard to grasp why "Jackpot!" is almost two hours long. Awkwafina and John Cena works the way through the film with minimal effort, but it's appreciated that these two are the leads given their comedic timing. Apart from the production value, "Jackpot!" won't win any awards and it hardly scores any points from me either.
Awkwafina maybe wasn't the right casting call but she does all right in this absurd action comedy... but again.. John Cena steals the show. Don't know why the haters hate this movie, it never set out to be the action comedy of the decade. It was just a fun romp which it feels it succeeded in obtaining. The action is very well staged but very pg friendly with its R rating coming from its language. Simon Lui is the predictable villain alongside the 40 plus inhabitants of the city which is meant to have millions of citizens, but it is a dire t to streaming movie so it's understandable to just have the same citizens in every sequence. John Cena seems to be finding the right projects as of late and relishes in the roles he's given. It's fun yet predictable but hey, watch it and see for yourself.

I went into this movie with the simple expectation of sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying myself, and it delivered perfectly on that promise. The pacing was consistent and well-crafted, keeping me fully engaged throughout without any lulls. The mix of humor added a lot of value-there were some genuinely funny moments that had me laughing out loud, balanced with a few corny lines that, surprisingly, added to the overall charm of the movie rather than taking away from it.
What I appreciated most was that the film didn't try to be something it wasn't. It embraced its identity as a light, entertaining flick, and in that regard, it excelled.
Whether you're in the mood for something fun to unwind with or just need a good laugh, this movie is a great pick. It's highly recommended for anyone looking for a solid, enjoyable experience. For what it aims to be, it truly is excellent, hitting all the right notes in the right places..
The movie does exactly what it sets out to do, and it does it well.

This movie, if you can call it that, is a perfect example of a script that couldn't pick a lane. It's terrible. Cena is playing a role that Jim Carey would have played reasonably well-thirty years ago! Think Dumb and Dumber, or Ace Ventura. But it's 2024! And... It's not in Cena's wheelhouse, even though he's tried to pull it off several times recently, Argyle comes to mind. Not a winning formula for him, despite his work in Suicide Squad.
Awkwafina (aka Nora) can be funny. I've liked her in other stuff, including "Quiz Girl" with Sandra Oh. But the nonstop three stooges calamity, and cussing and mayhem is tiring by the thirty minute mark. And Machine Gun Kelly? You could almost pass on this film based on his presence alone.
This puppy should be taken out behind the barn and put out of its misery.
Don't do it. You've been warned.

Thing is, I don't think Akwafina is a bad actress. But that voice is just a horror. It grates on every nerve and rather like The Nanny, I'm not sure what we've done as a society to be inflicted with "comedy" that relies solely on an obnoxious voice. Honestly, the fact she can act is the only reason I was able to endure through the voice.
That aside, it's an amusing movie. No one plays wide eyed naïveté like Cena. And Machine Gun Kelly was highly entertaining. There are a lot of plot points that make zero sense. But it's a silly comedy so I guess you aren't supposed to think about that.
On the whole, amusing.

I sit here watching this movie and I can't believe that I made it to the end. Awkwafina looks perplexed by what she has to do to get this movie over with. She hasn't a clue what she's doing or why, and it shows. Everyone wants to kill her and she doesn't know why. I would say that it has to do with this movie being a confusion and a mish mash of karate moves and a flash mob of killers. Truly, this an awful movie and I don't know why they bothered to make it. In the first place. Both John Cena and Awkwafina wasted their time on filming it. Ugh, double ugh, if there was a zero star choice this mess would have righteously earned it.

Times are tough economically, and in LA, there is a lottery. The reward is large, but the catch is the winner has to survive a single day, and everyone will be able to track where the winner is, since a drone will update the position of the winner. The winner has to be killed before the end of the day, and bullets cannot be used. So as soon as the winner is drawn, the identity is known throughout the entire city. Katie Kim, an actress from out of town, knows nothing about the lottery, but accidentally entered it and won. The prize is $3.6 Billion. So will she be able to survive, and Noel (John Cena) offers to protect her. And that is the story. Enjoyable enough, but some of the best comedy is in a few quips, and the bloopers at the end credits. So stick through all the end credits. Some of the lines: "I thought you were a good actress. I need time to improvise." "I'm allowed to panic in a panic room." In the end credits: "Ever notice that LA looks like Atlanta." It was 'set' in LA, filmed in Atlanta. But for comedy, John Cena is much more enjoyable in Ricky Stanicky.
Okay. The plot might be a little bit sick. A big lottery jackpot, but if someone kills the winner, they get to keep the money. I guess it adds a touch of excitement to the lottery game. (?)
But the movie itself is terrific! Great acting, terrific fight and chase scenes (Gives The French Connection a run for its money!), and amazing cinematography. It's fast paced and fun to watch!
Cena and Awkafina are arguably the best matched acting couple since Tracy and Hepburn. They play off each other really well, and it's great fun just to watch the two of them. Then, add in all the mayhem and chaos of the plot, and you have a FUN MOVIE.
Don't look for "On The Waterfront." Just let it unroll in front of you and you'll have a great time!

The concept of the movie is intriguing. Imagine if 2013's "The Purge" was a comedy, a different take on the finished product we got. While the idea is fun, its execution could have been a little better. The script written by Rob Yescombe (Outside the Wire) is dragged down at times by clunky dialogue, an inconsistent tone, and some unfunny jokes that never truly elevate the story.
I'm not the biggest fan of Awkwafina, but I liked her in this movie (except for the times she's clearly improving). I like her backstory and her relationship with John Cena (who is probably the best part of the movie). The rest of the cast is fun, but some minor characters receive more screen time than needed, which is a deliberate choice to add depth to the story and the world of the movie.
The humor doesn't always work, but when it does, I laugh. I'm a simple man. As for the action sequences, they are well-choreographed and intense and add a thrilling element to the movie. They work well and complement the humor well. Director Paul Feig has done this before with 2015's "Spy".
Overall, it's a fun movie that I recommend for a light-hearted, entertaining watch.

Okay, I understand just shutting your brain off and watching a mindless action, comedy, or horror film with at least a semblance of entertainment to be had, but this was utterly horrible. Hearing Awkwafina scream her lines relentlessly and obnoxiously with that grating overly raspiness made me want to stab my eardrums out with a steak knife. Only fifteen minutes in and I was seriously rooting for everyone out to kill her to please do so. I don't see the appeal her fans have for her at all. Massively annoying. John Cena shows up and acts like he's in an overly long commercial, as usual. The "humor" is comprised of extremely juvenile dialog with "f***" being used after every other word (why do people find that funny? It's lazy, boneheaded writing) and situational comedy that was taken from the last little droplet of ideas from the desert that these dime a dozen "comedies" some how keep finding and repeating over and over and over again. I don't understand how so many people appreciated this garbage. It's nothing but humor I stopped laughing at after the seventh grade, cliche after cliche, zero originality (folks saying this is original clearly have a very limited view of cinema), and once again, the agonizingly annoying character portrayed by Awkwafina. To each their own, and watch it at your own risk/leisure. I'd certainly give it zero stars if imdb would let me.

Maybe I'm feeling generous because I watched this right after seeing The Union on Netflix which was inconceivably bad, but I actually enjoyed this one.
Yes the plot and script wasn't Oscar winning but it was funny and entertaining. There was a great chemistry between Akwafina and John Cena which carried the movie. I personally find both of them funny on their own and both have a similar sense of humour. This is the kind of goofy and cheesy film that you watch because it's suggested in your queue not because you've been dying to see it. Don't go into it with any grand expectations. Just enjoy the ride!

Of course there was no doubt about me sitting down to watch the 2024 comedy "Jackpot!". First of all, the movie has Awkwafina in a leading role, and the movie's synopsis just sounded like a blast.
Writer Rob Yescombe put together a rather unique and enjoyable script, not to mention entertaining as well. And I have to say that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 106 minutes that the movie runs for. There are some genuinely funny moments in the movie, and Awkwafina really makes it all the more enjoyable and funny to sit through. The phrase "Wrestlers and YouTubers are movie stars now" was really a nice touch in the movie.
The acting performances in "Jackpot!" are good, and the cast ensemble is good. Needless to say that Awkwafina really carried the movie quite nicely, and she is brilliant in these types of off-beat comedies. You know what you get with John Cena, so if you're a fan of his, then you will enjoy this movie as well.
If you enjoy light-hearted action comedies with a great story, then check out director Paul Feig's 2024 movie "Jackpot!". I was genuinely and wholeheartedly entertained throughout the course of the entire movie.
My rating of "Jackpot!" lands on a six out of ten stars.

My rating of "Jackpot!" lands on a six out of ten stars.

The incredibly-obvious amount of improvisation from everyone involved (and I mean everyone) is staggering. Has Famous' director from paul feig not learned the lesson?
I found almost every line of dialogue dull and unfunny. The credited writer doesn't seem capable of providing more than a wacky premise from which to build upon with LOTS of stunts to pad the time, and some paper-thin characters with cheap and underwritten backstories. The self-referential comment that reminds people how inadequate "Wrestlers" and "YouTubers" are as Stars was the cherry on top of it all. Didn't enjoy a moment of this film's script.
And as for the lead role.. I've accepted that people want to cast her for some reason I'll never understand, but I don't think she has the range, much less the capacity to do stunts. It helps a bit that the people in charge of the camera and editing know what they are doing. But doesn't fix the main issue : The entire film's script is sloppy and uninteresting.
But if you have low standards and want to watch a crap-fest of "cool" scenes, it might be worth your time.
