Fancy (2011)
A good show!
I was pleasantly surprised by the show Fancy! First of all, it has Patrick McKenna in it and I like him in every show I've seen him in, from Stargate to especially Traders even though that's not a comedy at all. I didn't even mind him on Red Green even though that's not the kind of show I like (don't hate it or anything though it's not my thing that's all). He plays the agent, Ed, and he is great in this. Queen Maureen is also a pretty good actress and her friend Leslie is great as a gruff cop who says whatever she is thinking. Maureen is looking for love and isn't very good at it, half trapped in the fantasy world of the kids show she does where she plays Queen Maureen. I hadn't heard of this show and it doesn't seem to be very popular but it's worth watching, not a bad way to waste a half hour.
The Being Frank Show (2010)
I can't believe they put this on T.V.!
Sometimes a movie or T.V. show is bad, then sometimes it is so bad that it becomes funny, then once in a while that show is so very bad that it goes past bad and past being funny to being just unbelievably terrible in a you can't look away from this car accident kind of way. I have watched this show almost every week, I am usually out or asleep when it is on so I tape it on my old school VHS player and I think that actually adds to the feel of watching a show like this. It is so awful it's like watching some crazy rich man's public access show from the 1960s, where everyone knows it's terrible but he pays for everything himself and threatens to have his mafia henchman Guido break the network guy's arms if he tries to take his awful show off the air. Frank D'angelo is the worst latenight host I've ever seen. Most of the time he sits there struggling desperately to think of something to say before piping up with some terrible one liner a grade school kid would think of, usually some penis joke that's just cringe worthy. He even plays characters like his own aunt who uncrosses her legs all the time. Why would a latenight host also play the characters he interviews? That's just the kind of look-at-me guy this host obviously is, he thinks he is a real entertainer and wants desperately to be the centre of attention all the time. He also sings a lot even though he has the voice of Frank Stallone. All of the regulars on the show seem to secretly hate him including Ed the Sock and the two sidekicks, but the guys in the band seem to not hate him and even just kind of realize what a joke he and his show are. That's the feel I had watching it and the review in Now Magazine verified it for me, he's a terrible T.V. host and apparently also a terrible person even if the rape charges against him were bogus. Take a pass on this show or you'll end up hooked on watching this car accident like I am!
The Red Green Show (1991)
Boring
The only reason to watch this show is if you have a real perverted fetish where you get turned on by duct tape or bearded old grampas with brillo pad beards and plaid shirts. This show just puts people in plaid shirts and has them tape random things together (like taping a Barbecue to a raft to make a handyman's official picnic table or some such crap) and it thinks that is the most funny thing ever. Red Green is so stupid and it's not even funny. He also has a stereotype nerd nephew who I guess is supposed to be funny because he is such a geek, I bet he would have killed in Revenge of the Nerds but on TV now in the new millennium this show and all the characters on it are so stupid it is sad.
Tron: Legacy (2010)
Better Than the First TRON But Still Bad
This sequel to TRON, TRON: Legacy, is better than the first TRON movie which I thought was just awful but this movie still is not worth seeing, I give it 3 out of 10 and was very disappointed with it even though I went in obviously expecting very little out of it. I am a Jeff Bridges fan and was really hoping this movie would be good but it just was not.
I like 3D movies in general but despite some good effects was bored through most of this movie and wishing it would just end. The first movie was from 1982 and the effects look stupid now but at the time they were revolutionary and very mind blowing, I think obviously the only reason that movie got any kind of cult following was for the leap forward in computer effects and not for the story because that movie was just stupid.
This is the first feature movie directed by Joseph Kosinski and it's hard to tell if this movie being so bad is his fault or just the bad ideas/script involved. In the movie basically Jeff Bridge's son gets a message from him in the world of TRON where he is trapped and he gets sucked into that world as well where he tries to help his dad.
Bridges/Hedlund/Wilde acting wise were all fine the problem with the movie was just what a stupid story and concept the whole TRON idea was/is.
The 3D/2D stuff was pretty neat and a good idea but again the effects being great did not make up for the story being so stupid for me.
Dan for Mayor (2010)
Fail
This show gets a big fail from me. The acting is terrible with unbelievable characters and the main character is just Hank from Corner Gas doing the exact same act that he was doing before, he is basically a big moron who is trying to do things he is too stupid to do. None of the characters are believable and this show is just a huge mess with nothing funny happening in it. I can't believe this show is even on TV in the first place it is so stupid and not funny at all. I have to write ten lines I guess so I will tell you I just bought a new goldfish because my last goldfish died he actually lived a real long time though for a goldfish so yeah.
Hiccups (2010)
Epic Fail
I do not even see what they were even trying to do when they decided to make this show. I understand that after Corner Gas ended it was a hit for Canadian TV standards in the ratings so they wanted to get those people back on TV in other series right away to kind of capitalize on that success that they had before but these shows are just awful in every way. The writing is terrible with real bad jokes and the acting is just awful, this show and Dan for Mayor are both awful. The characters in both shows are so useless and unbelievable and just not funny that it makes me sad and upset that my taxes help pay for these shows, it is like they did not even try to make something good/funny.
Matchstick Men (2003)
Great Acting, Good Movie!
This movie has great acting from both the actors, Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell, and the young lady Alison Lohman also does a very good job acting her role. The movie is not as good as the acting but it is still definitely a great movie to watch and worth the rental/time involved. It is hard to review a movie like this because it is about con men doing a heist and there are obviously twists and surprises and I don't want to give away any spoilers, but basically it is about two con men trying to put together a big con on somebody when Nicolas Cage's daughter gets involved and that threatens to tear things apart. I recommend watching this movie if you like con/heist stories and if you are a fan of Nicolas Cage's acting which I definitely am.
The Social Network (2010)
Very Good Performance, Boring Movie
I was bored out of my head trying to watch The Social Network it was just a boring and pointless movie! The lead actor playing Mark Zuckerberg or Zuckerburg whatever the spelling of that crazy name, he did a great job playing the part and I bet he will be nominated for an Oscar for best actor and I can't argue with that, but the movie over all was just boring and a waste of time. I can't believe it has a rating of 8 out of 10 here on IMDb. The other actors were mostly okay but Justin Timberlake was not good or believable at all in his role even though he lost that weight to look younger he doesn't look younger. I thought the whole movie was just boring and pointless, we already know that this Zuckerberg guy is a total a-hole so why do we need a movie about it?
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)
The Best of the Series!
The Chronicles of Narnia - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) is easily the best movie of the series (so far anyway!) and that says a lot seeing as how much I loved the rest of the series so far. I am a big C.S. Lewis fan and loved the first movies in this series but The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is great, the actors are really coming into their own as their characters and the story is great, with a lot of great action as well as interaction between the characters. It is just a real shame that it took like three years between these movies for this new one to come out but it was well worth the wait because it was a great movie and it's going to be hard to see the rest of the series live up to these high standards.
This Movie Sucks! (2010)
Huge Potential
This show is very funny and there is huge potential for it to be a really great show that could last a long time. I am a huge fan of Ed the Sock and he has already been on TV for many years but I hope he sticks around and does this show for many more years. I have seen every episode even though it is hard to keep track sometimes (they do not always list it), I watch CHCH TV a lot and it is on once a week depending on the day. The movies are very good (by that I mean they are entertaining the movies obviously suck like the title says they do) and the comedy added is very funny with Ed, Liana his red haired sidekick and Ron Sparks from Video on Trial fame cutting jokes all the time. The show was very rough at first with bad audio problems where I thought it would not stay on the air but it got better every week and is one of the few shows I look forward to seeing each week now.
Important Things with Demetri Martin (2009)
Stupid
This show is just stupid. I only know of Demetri Martin from the pieces he used to do on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I actually liked those segments he did and they were usually pretty funny. Maybe the problem here is that when he was on The Daily Show he had other people writing for him, because this show of his own is just tedious to watch. I hate it when people do something weird or that makes no sense and then say it's funny. Tom Green used to do that and since he had some success it seems a lot of people are doing his gross out stuff and his surreal stuff. Well it's just not funny. Also let's just say that it's kind of sad that an obviously 35-40 year old man is on TV pretending to be a teenager. Not hip or cool or whatever buzz word the network is trying to throw at us.
The Ron James Show (2009)
Very Bad
This show is just very bad. The sketches are really lame including scenes where Ron James (who is in real life about sixty years old or so) plays a little kid and another where he voices characters who are supposed to be his family in animated short sketches. I guess we are supposed to just laugh because an old man is pretending to be a kid? I don't know what they are thinking but it fails miserably this is some of the worst comedy I have seen in a while on Canadian TV. There is also a lot of stand-up comedy on the show where Ron James tells jokes, this is much better than the rest of the show (the sketches etc) but it's still only for real fans of Ron James, personally I find his comedy might work for older people like my parents but he's pretty whiny and his comedy is a bit too basic for me.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Someone Please Stop M. Night Shyamalan!!!
The man simply can not make movies! I thought that The Sixth Sense was a really good movie but last year I watched it again (after seeing The Happening because it was so bad I figured, "this guy can make a good movie I remember the Sixth Sense was really good!", and thought I would watch that again) and it was not good at all the second time I watched it. One you know the big "surprise" in Sixth Sense then watch the movie again, you will see it is not very good and is full of mistakes! No wonder I didn't guess the ending of that movie, it is full of inconsistencies! Anyway, Unbreakable was okay, Sixth Sense is still great if you only watch it one time, but Signs and The Village and Lady Under the Water and The Happening are all atrocious films, just bloody awful. And The Last Airbender belongs in that category of terrible movies. Somebody needs to take away M. Night Shyamalan's right to direct because he simply can not make a good movie, at least not for a very very long time now.
Creating the Vision (2004)
Interesting
This show was interesting but only really for huge huge HUGE huge Harry Potter fans.
I am of course a huge Harry Potter fan myself so I really enjoyed this special but a lot of people would find it unnecessary and kind of boring to watch.
There are a lot of Harry Potter fans out there -- obviously I mean come on it is a huge world wide phenomenon -- so this is a good special for us and will fill in a lot of blanks and just provide some info on the people around the stories.
All in all worth watching for Harry Potter fans!
Monte Carlo Nights (1934)
Not That Bad
This movie is not that bad, a decent time waster if you don't mind watching old black and white movies. I think most of the negative comments are coming from people who just don't like old black and white movies or they are expecting them all to be as good as Hitchcock, to that reviewer I say you are right it's not as good as any Hitchcock film but it is still a decent enough way to spend a couple hours.
It's a mystery film noir type movie where the main character is accused of murder but escapes and strives to hunt down the real killer on his own to get revenge but also obviously to prove that he is innocent of the crime he has been accused of. The actor playing the main character gives a good performance and so does the actress in the main female role.
Two and a Half Men (2003)
Numbs the Mind - Proof that our Society is in Decline
This show is just awful.
First off, the guy who plays Charlie Sheen's brother can't act. He just can't act. Plain and simple, his character has no depth at all, he's just an annoying prat, and he still can't act his way out of a paper bag.
The fat kid is also annoying. The only reason I have watched more than one episode is the hope that I will get to see his character killed off in some sort of a pizza eating accident while painfully trying to deliver one of his oh-so-telegraphed-I-say-"here it comes"-every-time-he-opens-his-mouth, painfully unfunny "jokes".
I've never minded Charlie Sheen but I also don't see the draw. He's a mildly talented, friendly enough, good looking guy whose dad is famous and who blew a lot of money on drugs and hookers. Interesting stuff, but that doesn't automatically make him a star or his show a winner.
If you can't see the jokes coming at least twenty seconds before they actually spit them out, this must be the first comedy show you've ever seen. If it wasn't for "According to Jim", this show would be the worst, most poorly executed, most formulaic sitcom of the last twenty years. It is a terrible show and anyone who enjoys pathetic drivel such as this needs to seriously think about seeking professional help, or at least developing an adult level sense of humour.
The Jane Show (2004)
Stupid
This show is stupid.
The acting is putrid and so over the top it makes me want to puke in my mouth.
The writing is about as funny as you would expect from a group of school children who watched a real TV show then were told to do a project on it.
I see no point at all to this show and don't see why in the world they would have actually thought anyone would want to see it, what is supposed to be the draw? The characters weren't just totally unfunny they weren't even interesting to me.
A huge swing-and-a-miss.
Man with the Screaming Brain (2005)
Classic Bruce Campbell!
As a fan of the Evil Dead movie series including Army of Darkness I like to see most movies that Bruce Campbell is in because he has a knack for either just picking fun movies to be in or just making them fun himself by being in them, I think it is probably both. The Evil Dead Series is bloody awesome pun intended maybe? But Bubba Ho Tep was another awesome movie where he played Elvis Presley after he supposedly died, in some convalescent home where he had to fight off an evil mummy! In this movie he plays a guy killed by this woman and he is brought back to life by a mad scientist who has fixed his brain by attaching into it the brain of a Russian or Bulgarian cab driver named Yuri who now controls part of his brain, and they track down this woman who also killed Yuri or whatever his name is to get their revenge.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)
Good Effects Bad Plot.......
I wasn't expecting too much from this G.I. Joe movie and I was still pretty much disappointed in what was going on in it. The effects it has in it are for the most part pretty awesome with some great as expected it would have action scenes and lots of gunfights and explosions and so on. But the story is pretty bad and pretty much just a non existing plot. I would say if you really really want to see this movie and really only somebody who is a big fan of G.I. Joe comics or guys from the eighties who collected the toys/comics whatever, these people who really want to see the movie should see it in the theatre because once it is out on DVD no way you will get the effect of this movie at home as you would watching on a big screen with big sounds etc. Of course these people are probably the ones who already saw the film, oh well.
Con (2005)
Stupid Show
Con is a stupid show, I can't believe it is even rated at 3 out of 10 here on IMDb.com. First of all for starters the host is truly stupid, he could just have a job and pay for his fast food and soda pops and do like half the work he does with his "amazing cons" to get these things for free, like fishing around through the garbage to get a cheeseburger receipt then calling the head company to complain about the cheeseburger just so he can get a free replacement cheeseburger and drive to the restaurant and pick it up? Wow you just did an hour of work, worked up your cellphone bill probably, wasted gas and most importantly wasted all of that time, plus you had to root around through a disgusting big barrel of garbage, all to get one free cheeseburger from McDonald's that is only worth like one dollar. You're an idiot. He also had empty soda cups in a rack in his trunk so that he could go to restaurants and rip them off for free refills, again this is disgusting he's only saving maybe a dollar plus these little cardboard cups get all gross from soda pop syrup and also start to fall apart, on top of that you risk walking into a restaurant and being called out for obviously being some idiot who hasn't bought anything there and is just coming in with his own cup, of course that would make this show interesting and funny instead of just stupid and pointless and completely not funny at all. Con sucks.
Punched Up (2006)
Putrid
This show was awful I am sorry I saw it on one of those "if you like this show we also recommend these titles" lines, well I was writing a comment for another show I hated and this title was recommended and I also hate it, so I will comment here. I just have to make sure not to look at this page's "also recommended" list or I'll see more shows I hate so much I have to comment about it and I'll end up here all day. How do shows this bad even get made? People pretending to get other people to pretend to do "spur of the moment" funny things like get their hair cut or throw a party, whatever, all of these episodes were obviously planned and even though it was planned out ahead of time the jokes were just bloody awful, I watched most episodes and didn't even laugh once. I hate this show and I'm glad it's gone too bad there are so many other awful shows still on TV.
House Party (2008)
An Unfunny Mess
This show is an unfunny mess. The performances by the actors are all flat and boring with jokes delivered poorly but I guess even a great delivery of a joke can't help it when the jokes are as poorly written as this show is. It is almost as if they posted the most obvious jokes ever on a wall and let children throw darts and whichever ones they hit were put in the show. The show makes no sense at all, the plot is a mess and they were obviously going for some kind of "tell the same story by following different characters each episode" thing which I'm sure they thought was really cool but there are two big problems with that, #1 it's been done a million times before and done better, #2 if you're going to do that your show has to be good/interesting/funny enough for someone to say "I will watch this again and see the next character's story" but this show definitely is not. Bad all around but especially the direction/production in general I strongly suspect they went into this not knowing exactly what they were trying to do.
Comedy Inc. (2002)
Shame!
If I was one of the people who was in any way responsible for coming up with this show, producing this show, or putting it on the air and subjecting unsuspecting viewers in Canada to actually watching this show, I would be too ashamed to ever, ever, ever go outside in public again. I would also be too afraid because anyone at any time might recognize me and tell others who I was and then no doubt an angry mob would beat me to death in the middle of the street and the police wouldn't lift a finger to stop it, and you know what, I wouldn't blame them one bit. Anyone who can make something like this and put it on TV probably is too stupid to even know how awful this show is anyway though so they are probably just happy cashing their checks and writing their pathetic jokes.
Stars Gone Wild (2007)
Put It Out Of It's Misery
What do you get when you take some of the Video On Trial judges (some okay some awful) put them in another show where they just make fun of celebrities (they already do this on Video On Trial already) and try to make them act? You get this unwatchable mess of a show that should have been put out of it's misery long before it did. Watching Boomer yell and wear small shorts was painful but why in the world is Sabrina so bad at doing her own accent???? One of the worst shows Much Music has ever come up with, they need to stop trying to recreate the magic of Video On Trial because that show isn't even done yet, I don't understand what they were even trying to do with this show. They used some of the most annoying judges (Dini, Boomer, more) and the jokes were always pathetic and recycled. Pointless show, glad it's done, hope they erased the tapes.
Little Mosque on the Prairie (2007)
Irrelevant, Inoffensive, Unfunny - Little Reason to Watch.
It's not at all surprising that the CBC network has taken this decent idea of a Muslims living in rural North America and drained all of the fun, all of the comedy and all of the relevance out of it. What we are left with is a boring, tasteless, bland, irrelevant yawnfest of a nothing show that can only interest the CBC's core audience of 75-90 year old farmers who have an antenna and still only get three channels. Where is the funny? Where is the drama and relevance? It's just one dimensional characters wandering from one slapsticky gag to the next. We get it already! Muslims and white country folk are different! How funny can it be to put over the top conservative Muslims in the same room with over the top conservative Christians again and again and again and again while repeating the same jokes and the same results. You could end every joke and every scene with "they don't understand us because we're soooo different!" They might as well have called this show "The We Wear Different Clothing Than You Hour! Look At My Strange Hat!" The jokes belong in a 1950s sitcom and were probably actually stolen from a 1950s sitcom. Any child can see these jokes coming from ten miles away. An awful show and another shame for the CBC, I am starting to think we should stop funding them altogether when they seem completely unable to change. Air Farce and Little Mosque? We deserve better than this.
