An animated version of Being John Malkovich. Nice for exploration of feminine curiosity about the apartment of her boyfriend. Initial dessilution , because, except the bed, the flat is ...empty. But it exists a sort of explanation and it seems work more than well. For a time because a trapdoor offers a new perspective about his sentimental past, not pleasant but honest . And with potential to become real...complicated.

A beautiful short animation , nice crafted, based on seductive story - especially for realistic crumbs - and with a fair final , offering good definition of the new chance.

So, Curiosa.

Mori (2023)

to feel

I suppose, the realism represents the main virtue of this short film about a father understanding the root of the death of his daughter, and, as writer, looking for recreate the thoughts, intentions and gesture animating her.

Beautiful cinematography, wise used references of classics but, more important, fair crafted message.

A film about choices and answers and profound bitterness of loneliness.

Enough for a simple, precise, useful story about a sort of exorcism and answers for yourself , about feelings creating gestures, about fear and captivity.

Three attempts of suicide . And a final reminding the death of Judas , the meaning of that death being not so different by in original case.

Christmas Island (2023)

pretty nice ( with a fist of questions )

Being not so indifferent about Andrew W. Walker, difficult to be too critic about this film.

Indeed, unrealism in huge doses, silly scenes and pretty nice education for a rebelious teenager, technology and a suffocated sappy final.

But my problems are basic two: the fate of co-pilot who is absent in the days of forced life in Christmas Island and the missing romance, natural, with huge potential, between Cali and Shane.

Sure, no expectations from a Hallmark Christmas romance but few questions are not so bad ( the other being the presumed controll of MacLeod family about town ).

But, sure, pretty nice . Like so many other Hallmark movies.

At final, I applauded Karen Kruper for her good support to a profound unrealistic story. Because this is the basic sin of this short film in which a young designer , kicked by her sister, accept participate at a contest and, miracle, she wins level by level, with help of her best friend who, so late, against his noble feelings, becomes more than friend.

Sure, not bad reflection about apparences, likes in social media, selfishness and self despite but , in essence, for this chain of facts and their exploration, superficial, off course, the film seems too...long.

But, sure, some humor, some effort to save the characters and the little child are reasonable good points.

Marras (2019)

The beauty of this short film is , obvious, just special. For the subtle, profound inspired performance of young Saara Runtti. For atmosphere, music and landscapes. For fair constructed tension.

Not last, for poetic final.

In forest, a young girl and her father, near other men. An attack . The girl is the only surviver and tries to escape in a sort of march across Finnish wilderness.

An episode , near voice of her conscience , of father , wonded , helped, with terrible efforts by his daughter . And the somber final, at first sight, of story.

All defined by find of dandelion in late fall, in womb of snow. Each new discover as source of hope and, in some measure, contact with beloved deads.

In short, just profound special.

A young girl. In night, a visitor in her closet and its promise. But the gift is far to be free and the generosity of stranger reminds the trades with devil.

The testimony of girl about event - a drawing , portrait of her family, including the stranger . But the things are more complicated, including the consequence against her brother and the parents discovering the significance of drawing.

Not the story itself remains in memory , but the themes smart explored, from broken home to Pennywise version and imaginary friend , so present in childhood as compensation of loneliness of many kids.

Well acted, inspired story, fair cinematography.

A man living alone. Drawing in the frame of storm affecting entire region. The phone conversation with his sister, reflecting family crisis. And the drops creating his health stability . At the first sight.

But a sort of alter ego changes the equilibrium of his peaceful life in a sort of paranoic - schizofrenic episode.

He has a gift and a mission and he needs not run by it.

Outside, under the thunderstorm, he suffers a radical transformation. With terrible effect, including for his sister s life.

A film easy to be interpreted in different ways, from horror to portrait of family crisis and loneliness of middle age guy with not mental stability to a kind of fantasy .

Nice story, good performance.

Liminal (2023)

In good measure, an experience. About light , long way, lights of city and staires and final kick to final and the strange feeling about final.

A film offering not exactly a story but, beig a first - person journey, impling the viewer in the skin of self research for a precise purpoise, across futuristic town, near lights in different spaces, on a bridge who seems so fragil, near people angry about your presence and guided , in final, by a guy defining, in simple, precise terms, the life itself and the posible attitude about it.

An experience, indeed, this is the fair definition in this case.

New Lives (2023)

Few essential virtues :

• the subtle - gentle portrait of Shoah trauma traits;
• the manner of adaptation to a new social reality;

A great film for wise crafted story, for aadmirable performances. Not last, for the final message. Indeed, I saw it as man teaching high school students some things about Holocaust . So, profound subjectiv perception. But , no doubts, New Lives is a profound, for so many reasons, beautiful film.

Its basic virtue - it is a correct short horror. The good point - it represents, obvious, more than a good horror, proposing a return to past , from a nightmare of a young man to the bizarre sounds from attic perceived by his wife who looking for source , understands, too late, her mistake.

The air of first horrors , grace cinematography, is the precious detail for me. A film about dark presence , a warning and a knife who becomes , from instrument of self protection the tool of murder.

The return home of man close the circle.

Nothing special or surprising but, obvious, a good work detail bz detail , with inspired touch of a Murnau.

A short film about addictions , nice crafted as a sort of puzzle. A young man and his presumed conscience in a sort of war/ competition who, in new and new delicate situations becomes compassion about a lost game.

Moral parable about addictions defining part of us, nice crafted scene by scene, it is just a seductive short film with status of reflection in a kind of mirror for viewer.

A parodicc perspective about spaghetti western, tasty, amusing, faithful to essence of model and well acted. And, sure, inspired some hungry or memories about eating ...pizza with generous ketchup sauce.

Two brothers, a coward Angel Hair, the fate of complices and the duel on bridge, the twist and the so familiar end.

Nothin g new but inspired reproduced, proposing different perspective about a genre more than familiar and not always appreciated by critics.

The Lighthouse Italian Ice (2021)

A parodic perspective about the great movie of Robert Eggers from 2019, a hommage in which teenager spirit rules, childish at first sight ( the second no matters ), surprising short, amusing to crazy in not polite but charming in its way.

A nice very short comedy in which the lighthouse becomes an Italian ice cream shop, the scenes from masterpiece of Willem dafoe and Robert Pattinson is reduced at hilarious copies and the ice cream, like the false moustache and beard are fine used for a good smile , especially if you like the original.

With some indulgence, a kind of hommage , in essence a childish game.

Don't Go Outside (2024)

Interesting use of Cuban missils crisis as frame for real interesting story. A young man, introvertit at first sight, front TV, sees the speech of President JFK about the danger menacing United States as result of Soviet missils in Cuba.

The advice is to not go outside and the try to enter of somebody in his house, near the knoks at door are sources of terible fear .

So, a profound tensioned evening and panick sustained by official sources.

The morning gives good news , grace newspaper on porch.

A film about family and about help in special context, about premise of reconciliation between a stubborn man and his daughter, about the connection between a grandfather and his granddaughter and about manner to discover old flavor of a drink after long time.

A great film , beautiful performances, nice presence of a school project and fair moral to a story created by simple touches, defined by sketches and suggestions, enough for impress and offer a nice story about what real matters In short, just an admirable short film for who, I admitt, I am grateful to director and his team.

The Licensed Fool (2023)

Easy to be critic about this short film for artistic / technic criteria. But it represents only a manifesto. Simple, convincing, reminding a tragedy who, in some situations, seems very far by us. Wrong !

Two families - a Russian one, in expensive house, an Ukrainian one - in modest apartment . A couple, their children, one of ladies is pregnant, the other is ill. The death, looking for help his mother, of the boy of the last family.

Nothing complex, simplistic special effects but a correct story served in decent manner, by special effects and not so bad acting.

Enough for remind a terrible tragedy near us.

Ruari is a young boxer confessing to a priest , in church, his intention to change his life , renouncing to boxing.

The obstacles - his father, who , from childhood, teaches Ruari for this sport who was him , in same measure , and the fear than boxing is the onlz ocupation who he can do.

The encouragement of the man of Church clashes against father perspective about the wish of son, the reaction being radical , abusive, cold to angry.
