The Dictionary of the Georgian National Biography
is the first English-language compilation of biographies of men and women,
whose lives have influenced the Georgian culture and history. The dictionary
includes biographies from all periods of history and all walks of
life. It is not simply a dictionary of "Georgians," but rather of people of
every ethnic background, who contributed to the historical development and cultural diversity of the
Georgian society. In addition, the Dictionary includes profiles of the sons
and daughters of Georgia who have distinguished themselves abroad.
To our knowledge, the Dictionary of the Georgian National
Biography is the first Georgian biographical resource of this scope to be
published on-line. It currently includes 506 entries and is
continuously updated.
We chose electronic format for a
number of reasons. In modern age, the Internet represents a powerful
research tool that makes it possible to introduce your work to a vast
audience throughout the world. Electronic format also makes it
possible to update and modify entries when needed and maintain the entire
database error-free and up-to-date.
We hope you will find this
website interesting and informative. Due to the vast scope of this project,
material will be uploaded periodically, so please do visit us
regularly.
