Garrick Hagon has won a guest role in the next series of Doctor Who.

The actor - best known for playing Biggs in 1977's Star Wars - is currently shooting on the sci-fi drama in Spain.

Genshiken Spain, organisers of the FreakCon convention, wrote on Twitter: "Garrick Hagon, our guest at FreakCon, is currently shooting in Almeria, filming a series of Doctor Who."

Guest actor Rob Cavazos later added: "I am currently working with an actor who was in the first Star Wars film. I am by no means a fanboy, but that's still pretty awesome!"

Hagon previously appeared in Doctor Who in 1972, playing a guest role in the Jon Pertwee story 'The Mutants'.

His additional credits include '70s BBC drama Colditz, 1977's James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me and 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Farscape star Ben Browder will also appear in Hagon's new Who episode, a Wild West adventure written by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse.

Other guest stars confirmed for the show's seventh run include Upstairs Downstairs star Adrian Scarborough, Sherlock's Rupert Graves and Harry Potter's David Bradley.

Mark Williams (The Fast Show) will also appear in a forthcoming episode as a character named Brian Williams.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the autumn.
