- A loving mother and wife deals with situations and problems of a middle-class family in the late 1950s and the early 1960s.

- Buzz Berry, Mary's favorite rock singer, is coming to town for a show. On the night of the show, however, Buzz comes down with a bad case of the measles, and is taken to the Stones' house to be treated by Alex, and is forced to stay there for a few days to recuperate. When word leaks out that he is staying there, the Stones' house is besieged by his adoring fans.
- Donna wants to go to the Founders Ball but Alex does not. Alex is struggling with Mr Greevy for financing of a new clinic. Greevy wants more money. Donna's Aunt Bell visits. Turns out, Bell and Greevy know each other from years past.
- Jeff is upset that his girlfriend plans a pajama party on the same night as his sixteenth birthday party.
- Jeff buys an old school bus and intends to make money by driving his friends wherever they want to go.

- Donna adopts the belief that children are capable of making good decisions on their own. Her beliefs are tested when Mary starts dating an annoying boy Donna doesn't like.
- Donna has her kitchen remodeled and new appliances installed. Then she needs to refinish an arm chair which leads to the other furniture look drab. Also, Alex's birthday is the next day, and no one can think of a gift to get him.
