- As a teenager he had a malfuctioning kidney and had to have a transplant, which stunted his growth at 5 ft.
- He was already in his mid 20s, when he began playing the recurring character Nog, a teen-aged Ferengi, on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993).
- Along with fellow Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) co-stars Max Grodénchik, Chase Masterson, and the late Cecily Adams, he was part of the popular "Ferengi Family Hour" comedy sketch that frequented Star Trek conventions.
- He was born with one kidney; the kidney failed and he went on dialysis at age 14. He underwent his first kidney transplant at 14 and had a second transplant on December 29, 2015.
