On paper it’s a western with everything — a major star, decent supporting players, a cult director and sideways references to the blacklisting years. But even with its ya-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it high noon showdown scene, Joseph H. Lewis’s last feature film is still a lower-tier United Artists effort. Sterling Hayden goes up against Sebastian Cabot and Nedrick Young, armed with a, with a . . . aw, you probably know already.

Have all auditioned to play Wonder Woman in the Batman vs Superman movie, according to various media reports. A fourth female, described as “tall, brunette, athletic and exotic” also was seen walking in to the audition but has yet to be identified.
Variety won’t go as far as saying the role all three woman have auditioned for is that of the Amazonian goddess (they are hedging their bets it could be a Bruce Wayne love interest) but it seems pretty clear to us that they all fit the bill as DC’s most kick-ass superheroine.
Indeed the news comes just days after Thor: The Dark World actress Jaimie Alexander (who already plays a very Wonder Woman-esque Lady Sif) hinted that she has been in touch with WB about the film as well,...

Yesterday, comedian Patton Oswalt was being praised online for his words of reason and inspiration following yesterday's terrorist attacks that happened during the Boston Marathon. He said, "When you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, 'The good outnumber you, and we always will.'" Today, Oswalt helps yet again, this time with laughter, as he appears in this hilarious Batman sketch as The Penguin. This time Batman doesn't understand death and when he takes out criminals, he just thinks they go to sleep. Watch below! Here's Batman vs. The Penguin featuring Patton Oswalt from College Humor (via Movies.com): That's comedian Matt Holmes doing a spot-on, but amusing impression of Christian Bale's Batman from Christopher Nolan's film franchise. There's a lot of really quick references and one-liners to the film series,...

Recently our own Matt Holmes wrote about the intriguing news that 20th Century Fox have recently registered the movie title “Days of Future Past” with the MPAA. This news coming so soon after the announced release date for the follow up to X-Men: First Class has naturally gotten people speculating that the prequel sequel might be based on one of the most beloved story arcs in X-history.
A common reaction to this idea is to wonder whether or not this storyline is out of place for a prequel? For one thing, it involves quite a few characters who would be hard to fit into something taking place before the original film.
Fortunately that’s not the only direction Fox can go with on Days of Future Past. There’s still the option of doing a 4th movie in the main X-Men franchise or even a movie that connects both storylines together.

Updated: Newcastle United blog Nufc Fans have exclusive quotes from the player’s agent Harry Lulofs last night;
“Newcastle have made an offer between £5-10 million. I cannot give you the accurate figure, but Ajax have received a written offer.”
“They are very satisfied with the guy [Anita] and want to keep him. Newcastle have been watching him for a long time and really want to sign him.”
“This is the first offer Ajax have received for Vurnon and we’ll soon see how they react.”
He went on to say the offer will be discussed next week with the player;
“After next week, he [Anita] will be back from holiday and I will meet people at Ajax with him and his dad.”
And that new Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert showed interest in the player whilst at Norwich City;
“The only other Premier League club to get in touch was Norwich.

West Brom’s want-away midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has held talks with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur about a potential summer move, according to the player himself.
He told Mercato 365;
“We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham. For now, I’m leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation.”
The news comes barely two weeks since the player hinted on Twitter that he was looking for pastures new when he cryptically tweeted;
“Chelsea, Liverpool or Newcastle next season”
Mulumbu was named West Brom’s player of the season last year and is currently tied to the club until 2015 after signing for the club in 2009 for a fee of just £175,000 after a successful loan spell. However after becoming the Baggies star midfielder it would now take a big offer for the Midlands club to part with their midfielder.

The well documented Demba Ba £7 million transfer release clause can be officially activated from today, though only for two months.
The Mirror reports that the clause Ba agreed with Newcastle United last year was only for a two month window during the summer months and after the July 31st deadline, Newcastle would be able to reject £7 million offers for their top-scorer last season.
Newcastle insisted that the release clause window would only last for two months so if they were to lose Ba, they would give themselves at least a month to buy in a new replacement before the transfer window shut.
The Magpies are expecting offers from almost all the major clubs in Europe for their 27-year-old Senegalese forward who struck 16 times last season with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur the most keen. Newcastle won’t be able to stand in the way of Ba being able to talk to...

Newcastle United have announced that they will launch their new home shirt for the 2012/2013 season on August 1st, 2012.
Pre-orders can be made right now at Soccer Box (though not yet on the official Newcastle United club shop), though no images have yet to be released depicting what the new kit looks like. We don’t expect an official reveal of the shirt to be revealed until mid-July at the earliest, though that is just speculation on our part.
Newcastle United revealed their new burgundy red away shirt for the new season last month and is already on general release. You can purchase that shirt from the club shop right now.
The Magpies will also reveal a third kit sometime this summer. For the first time in over five years, this third kit will officially act as a “European Away Shirt” as opposed to just a third kit as it has...

David Yates, the director of the last four Harry Potter movies and the BBC have recently announced plans to bring our beloved Doctor to the big screen. The movie will be a reboot of Britain’s most famous sci-fi franchise and will have no connection to the current t.v. incarnation and as we’ve said the timing is very curious given that Doctor Who has never been so popular (especially internationally) and nobody was clamouring for a reboot.
While we are still somewhat adverse to the prospect of film producers getting their ugly teeth on such a great franchise and chucking away the great work of Matt Smith and David Tennant recently, you can bet we’ll still fork out a tenner to go and see it. Though the project is still two or three years away from production (Yates needs to find a writer first and presumably the...

It was surprisingly announced earlier this week that a Doctor Who reboot movie is in the works. This would be a theatrical film directed by David Yates, best known for the four most recent Harry Potter films and it’s said would not feature any of the current or former cast, and would be purposefully kept separate from the TV series. There is a possibility that it might be released in time for the 50th anniversary in 2013 (if not it will be 2014).
The problem? They don’t yet have a script, a cast, a production team or anything more than a blueprint of what they want to do with the film franchise except to say that Doctor Who “needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena”.
The news that came this week was strange. It came very much without warning, David Yates had spoke just a...

I always found that really annoying, how much fun can you really have with your scope firmly placed on one point in the map for the entire duration of the game? With the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, the third in a trilogy of highly successful Batman movies by Christopher Nolan, and the recent release of the hotly anticipated video game Arkham City, its really never been a better time to be a Batman fan. The past few years have seen a gigantic leap in popularity for DC Comic’s surly, brooding poster boy, a character that has always held a large amount of public affection in its near 80 year history.
With this in mind, WhatCulture has decided to do an article comparing the two most beloved Batman movies: Tim Burton’s Batman from 1989, the iconic and most endearing interpretation of Batman, and The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s second take on the World’s Greatest Detective from 2008, the highest grossing and critically revered Batman film to date. As soon as I heard of this, I practically pleaded for the opportunity to write it.

Being as inconsistent as he is prolific, it would be fair to say that Woody Allen’s late-day career has been hot-and-cold at best; for every success – most recently the likes of Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona – there is something that didn’t quite work – Cassandra’s Dream or Scoop – and even in his better recent films, there is a bitter taste of misanthropy which, while at one time fresh and diverting, has long become tiresome and trite. Allen’s latest, Midnight in Paris, is a return to a more optimistic past – literally and figuretively – complimenting a charming premise with sweet characters and a winningly old-fashioned feel.
While the grumpy old men get-together that saw Allen pair with Larry David for Whatever Works certainly had its moments, Allen has smartly – and indeed, surprisingly – tended towards more mainstream comic talent for his latest excursion, calling upon...

A couple of weeks back we heard Bond 23 screenwriter John Logan heavily hint towards a familiar villainous face returning to torment the world’s most famous spy in the next 007 movie that begins filming very soon. Right now director Sam Mendes and his Bond team are kicking pre-production into a higher gear, recently securing up shooting locations and no doubt putting the last minute casting details in place. We could be just days away from a firm title announcement on the film along with a reveal over who the new villain is. Could it be a return for Blofeld for the first time since the early 80′s?
So as we like to do around here with our Fantasy Casting series, we have put our heads together collectively and come up with 10 actors who really would make great contenders to stroke that white cat and plot world domination.

Sherlock Holmes is returning to TV screens in a present day setting, updating Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mysteries for modern audiences, and no, I’m not talking about season 2 of BBC’s ‘Sherlock’.
It’s been announced that the Us television network CBS has bought the rights to develop a brand new series that is obviously intended as an American rival to the current and very popular BBC show. Rob Doherty, of ‘Medium’ and ‘Tru Calling’ fame, is set to write the pilot which, if picked up, will more than likely air in the Autumn of next year. Deadline describes the show as ‘a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye’ – which sounds incredibly similar to Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffat’s recent take on the character.
Although completely unnecessary it would be intriguing to see what CBS would do to differentiate it from the BBC.

Last week on the August 14th episode of Rhonj Ashley Holmes faced an intervention. It was so serious that her father, Matt Holmes, flew in from Texas to take part in it! But clearly the intervention didn’t knock any sense into Ashley’s head.
The end of the intervention did not go as planned. Jacqueline Laurita ended up crying in a corner as Ashley called her “immature” and said she acts like an “eighth grader.” But the real drama occurred at the end of the episode when Ashley called her mom a “b***h.”
And Jaqueline responded, crying, saying, “All the love I have in the world I give to her.” And Ashley proceeded to say, “I’m over it and done,...

Biopics aside, it is rare that a film will tell the life of a character from cradle to grave; and with good reason, as it is rare that anyone’s entire life will be filled with enough moments of drama, action or romance. Most movies cover a moment of heightened emotion and extreme circumstance in a person’s life. They are about people learning life lessons through a series of events. Once the character has experienced these events and undergone these changes, their story is told; and nothing that could happen to them after or that would have gone before would be anywhere near as interesting. Superheroes aside, of course.
And yet there are some characters whose histories appear so rich and interesting that although they might be alluded to leave you salivating to learn more. Likewise, there are some characters that you wish to stay alongside and see what...

With the frustrating news breaking last week that Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness (based on an H.P. From further research it’s clear that the major directors that have worked within the industry have abandoned vast numbers of productions that would have easily been big money makers and both critical and financial successes. Indeed, filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch and Orson Welles have abandoned dozens of projects, even after beginning production on some of them!

Power up the DeLorean, turn the time circuits on and get the flux capacitor… fluxing, ‘Back to the Future‘ has landed back in U.K. cinema’s for a refreshing, and unique, nationwide re-release. Terrence Malick is somewhat of an oddity in the world of movie-makers. He has been in the business for 38 years and has only released 5 films to date. Very little is known of his personal life and he never gives interviews. This past weekend saw the U.K. release of his fifth movie The Tree of Life staring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. As with many of his movies, it has drawn a mixed reaction from the critics and the public. You just need to look at the reactions to Matt Holmes’ review to see how he splits audiences.
Some people say his work is pretentious, others say he’s an artist- I think the truth lies somewhere in between.
From what is known about his life, Malick began his career as a screenwriter in Hollywood. Dissatisfied with the results of the finished films in the hands of other directors, Malick...

The upcoming 23rd James Bond movie may still be untitled (let’s be honest, it’ll have some ridiculous name anyway, probably including the worlds ‘day’, ‘die’ and ‘gold’ in there somewhere) but some very exciting details from the movie have already emerged, not least the latest news on Friday that Pirates of the Caribbean actress Naomie Harris is being lined up to play Miss Moneypenny, a return for the iconic character who has so far gone unfeatured in the Daniel Craig movies.
With Moneypenny back at MI6, many have already presumed that a return for everyone’s favourite grouchy, gadget God – Q, may also be on the cards, another long-time Bond cornerstone who in the 2006 reboot was dismissed as being old hack. But now with Morgan Freeman’s Q-esque take on the Lucius Fox character in the Batman franchise having shown the world that a sophisticated go-to gadgets man...

Seeing as Kenneth Branagh has exited stage right just as Marvel announced the July 26th, 2013 release date of the Thor sequel, speculation is rising as to who will take over to helm the (no-doubt epic) fantasy sequel.
Our very own editor and chief Matt Holmes has recently called for a visionary director to take the franchise to the next level. With that in mind, here’s our 8 picks for who Marvel/Disney should be looking at as serious contenders to take charge of the next Asgardian adventure. The following names aren’t in any order after our first choice;
Matthew Vaughn
Why: Probably the first name that comes to mind – the guy’s four for four with bringing us great movies, including two films already in the genre, and one involving iconic Marvel characters. He’s delved into fantasy with Stardust and demonstrated that under his direction, character and action can live side-by-side.

Following a conversation with Matt Holmes after both of us had seen the latest addition to the X-Men saga (which will shortly become a duel article exploring the virtues and problems with X-Men: First Class), a question arose that has eaten away at me ever since. So, swiftly following on from my Fantasy Characters post from a few days ago, I’ve decided to tackle the second area of debate inspired by Matthew Vaughn’s brilliant Bond-inspired take on the property.
And the question? Given how the film is resolved, and the scripting decisions that led to that resolution, where would a X-Men: Second Class film go?
Slight warning of spoilers below, so be warned – if you haven’t seen it yet, best avoid this article until you have…

James Cagney, the quintessential movie gangster
Seemingly always en vogue, gangsters have been especially so in recent years. The grand seigneur of American cinema, Martin Scorsese, finally won his long-deserved first Academy Award for Best Achievement in Directing for “The Departed” in 2007. Michael Mann’s 2009 effort “Public Enemies” was a big-budget production with high-dollar stars. The HBO drama “The Sopranos” attracted millions of viewers per week for eight years. “Sopranos” writer Terry Winter teamed up with Scorsese in 2010 for another acclaimed gangster series, “Boardwalk Empire,” which won two Golden Globes earlier this year. Warner Bros., the studio that invented the gangster film, is hoping to get back in the game with a revival of the classic genre.[1] And Scorsese, who made his name with gangster films like “Mean Streets,” “GoodFellas” and “Casino,” will likely return to the genre with mafioso thesps Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino in...

Premiering this morning at the Cannes Film Festival was the Michel Hazanavicius silent, black-and-white, film The Artist. Yesterday saw the first official trailer released for the movie, which generated a huge amount of buzz ahead of the 8.30am premiere.
And it did not disappoint. Obsessed With Film’s Matt Holmes will be reviewing the movie later today, but here are just a selection of the instant reactions coming out of the screening.
@ultraculture - Absolutely loved The Artist. Probably my favourite film so far at Cannes. I’m still humming the soundtrack.
@totalfilm – The Artist: silent-movie pastiche charmer, strong contender for the Palm D’og.
@SiTheMovieGuy – Absolutely adored The Artist. #Cannes @rejectnation @wbpictures can think themselves very very proud
@peterhowellfilm – The Artist: Very smart and entertaining, silent film conceit doesn’t overwhelm emotion — plus sure-fire winner of Palme Dog
@picturehouses – Just seen one of the best films of the festival,...

The 64th annual Festival De Cannes was kicked off this morning by Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris. Sadly for myself (I will be covering the festival daily over at SkyMovies.com for the next 11 days) and many other Yellow Badge holders we were denied entry as the screening was, as expected, completely full. Owf editor Matt Holmes was in attendance, however, and a full review will follow shortly.
Twitter was buzzing shortly after the 11am screening was complete. Below are a selection of the “tweets”:
@evelinginparis - Cliched, corny but clever and clapping from the press.
@firstshowing – Wow that was great. A charming Parisian fairytale back to the 1920s. His best film in years!
@astrotic – art history 101 explicitly exploring familiar idea that we can only love an unfamiliar past; acting repellent.
@maximbarrault – pure fantasy and very entertaining.
Midnight In Paris stars Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates.

Source: FilmShaft - ‘Django Unchained’ Script Leaked Online
In news that will delight fans of Quentin Tarantino who share his obsession with cinema – The Guardian reports that the script for the screenwriter/director’s new film has been leaked online (if you’re wondering - I won’t be reading it because I’m a poncy purist)
Entitled Django Unchained and according to Matt Holmes over at Obsessed with Film who has posted a long script review, the film is “an homage to Sergio Leone, set in the deep south (rather than the old west) which tackles the predictably difficult subject of 19th century American slavery. The lead character is a black slave-turned-gunslinger named Django.”
Although details of the film are still fairly vague – not helped by the fact that Tarantino has refused to confirm growing speculation on the film’s plot and lead actors – Holmes suggests that the role...

Some call it fatally overblown, some defiantly non-commercial. The blogging circuit is abuzz as Qt's latest script is leaked
For most screenwriters, the time-gap between completing a script and having it judged by your audience can be sizable. Not so Quentin Tarantino, who completed his screenplay for upcoming movie Django Unchained on 26 April and earlier this week woke to discover half the blogosphere had already read it. Many sites reprinted the front page, loving completed in Qt's own childlike scribble, to prove they had seen the script. Did somebody at the all-day party Tarantino apparently held last week to celebrate its completion nip off and make copies? Or did someone at the Weinstein Company decide to slip a few in the post to key players? No matter: the word on Django Unchained is out there, and it's too late to shoo it back into its box now.

Every historical flash-point finds a mirror in cultural output, and no event has had more impact on the world in the past ten years than the heinous atrocities committed in the name of “faith” on September 11th 2001. Those crimes of mass violence changed the world irrevocably in the weeks, months and years that followed, compelling many Western countries to multiple wars, and sparking one of the most infamous and oddly iconic cat and mouse stories in modern political history as one name shot to the top of the World’s Most Wanted list immediately following the attacks.

Just yesterday in my review of Knucklehead, I was pondering whether the WWE had a good film in them and on the strength of that film I didn’t think it was at all possible. I lament the fact that the company seems to be invested in only making either super-macho fighty-shouty films like The Marine (and its sequel), or fish-out-of-water projects like Knucklehead that put a Wrestler in an unfamiliar role for the purpose of comedy. The result is invariably a slow torture- for the audience and for the Wrestler in question alike- so it wasn’t exactly with gleeful excitement that I picked up The Chaperone starring Triple H to put into my DVD player…

According to Variety, Alec Baldwin (»30 Rock«), Penelope Cruz (»Volver«), Jesse Eisenberg (»The Social Network«) and Ellen have been confirmed for Woody Allen.s next film project scheduled to shoot in Rome this summer. Allen is directing from his own original screenplay and is apparently also planning to appear on screen. While plot details, character names and even the exact title are unknown at the moment, some online journalists are already speculating based on the actor.s types and Allen.s previous works like »Vicky Cristina Barcelona« or »Match Point« what the film will be about. Kristy Puchko from The Film Stage imagines "Baldwin will be playing the unrepentant ugly American character he.s been perfecting on 30 Rock, possibly a father (or father figure) to Eisenberg. Likely he falls for the exotic but complicated Cruz character, and Eisenberg for the quirky/cool girl Page may play. Maybe for bonus twists (and...

If superhero movies have one fatal flaw it’s their annoying focus on, well, the heroes. But where would they be without a nemesis whose one goal in life is to make them have a really bad day. Where would Superman be without Lex Luthor, Batman without the Joker, Professor X without Magneto, Thor without his demented half-brother Loki, Flash without… Ok that’s enough comparisons.
Now with the news that the Man without Fear is to be given another chance at big screen immortality from director David Slade after Ben Affleck’s somewhat anemic attempt in 2003 (not forgetting the super-criminal directing by Mark Steven Johnson), let’s forget the pretty boy actors who might step into Matt Murdock’s super-sensory shoes and consider the villains who might be worthy to trade celluloid blows.

As you’ve probably heard by now, a new Daredevil movie has been announced by 20th Century Fox, likely for release in 2013.
So far, all we know is that it’ll be directed by David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night, Twilight: Eclipse) and will follow Mark Steven Johnson’s Ben Affleck-version of Matt Murdock (though likely with a new actor) as a loose ‘continuation’ (characters already established, different cast and creative team) instead of an origin movie or sequel. So, until we get more information, it’s always to fun speculate what Fox have in store for us.
Matt Holmes has already taken a stab at which actors may fill the scarlet suit, so let’s look at which plot direction Slade could take. Here’s a few potentials…

Sad news coming in from Digital Spy; British actor Michael Gough has passed away at the age of 94.
Gough, Kuala Lumpur born but the son of British parents, appeared in over 150 film and television shows in a career that lasted 7 decades. Easily his most famous role was as Bruce Wayne’s ever faithful butler Alfred in all four Tim Burton/Joel Schmaucher Batman films, a role that gave his career a latter day second wind.
Perhaps the only consistent element of four wildly different films, Gough was the anchor of the franchise, the homely, safe and comforting character that was always present and never changed… precisely the characteristics you would want Alfred to be if you were Bruce Wayne.
Although he was never given the meaty chunks of dialogue that Michael Caine would enjoy in the later Chris Nolan movies, Gough made a memorable impression from very few words and...

There’s something worrying me about Sucker Punch. The trailers so far look mind-boggling- a mess of over-excitement, over-stylized and under-thought. Maybe Snyder has lost his intelligent touch? Or maybe too many of us are assuming that something so brash, and so hyperbolic could ever possibly translate into a conventionally enjoyable film experience. But one thing is certain about Sucker Punch: the art is astounding.
And in line with next month’s release of the film, Titan have given us a copy of ‘Sucker Punch: The Art of the Film’ to review, which is available to buy now. And by crikey, it looks good.
I have the sneaking suspicion that Zack Snyder is mildly insane. This nagging feelings comes from a conversation I had recently with our own Matt Holmes about the differences between The Watchmen helmer and Chris Nolan and what happens when you give each of...

Whilst testing our new live chat function for this Sunday’s Oscars (to be hosted by Owf’s Matt Holmes and his colour commentator Simon Gallagher!) – we kinda blew up the site a little, which is why any visitors for the past hour or so will have had their usual Owf viewing experience interrupted by something that looked like this. Apologies for that.
We are fixing the problem right now but for the majority of today, the site won’t quite be working up to it’s usual speed. For example, the comments box on the right hand side has temporarily disappeared and I think the tweet function might be down for a while but it’ll be back.

When the announcement of Tom Hardy’s inclusion in Chris Nolan’s third and final Batman film was initially made, the rumour hounds went crazy over who he would play, with the top three options lining up as The Riddler, Hugo Strange and Bane, with the masked muscle-bound madman coming in a distant third in that particular race. So it wasn’t hugely surprising to find a vocal and vociferous opposition to the further announcement that the Brit would indeed be taking on the role of he who is often referred to as the anti-Batman.
But, given the time to reflect on the decision, and the way Bane (and also Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle) will fit in with the rest of the Nolan universe, I think the casting is genius. And here, my Batman-loving friends, is why:

Usually around this time of the year we list maybe 10 or 20 films that we think are as absolute ‘Must See’s’ for what the next 12 months of cinema has to offer us but as the clock is ticking ever closer to midnight on 2010, we thought we would challenge ourselves a little further this time around. The question I posed to the Owf staff recently was… can Cinema in 2011 produce enough ‘Must See’ films to hit 52, which would ratio out to be just one film per week? That’s all we are hopeful for here… just one film every Friday that justifies us parting with our ever increasingly important cash in these tough economic times.
Did we manage to find 52? Kind of.
There’s certainly 52 films listed here but once we got to around 30, the whole thing became a struggle and we had to fill it out disappointingly with the usual array of over-budgeted summer spectacles,...

28 of you voted, a little less than the amount who voted last time (which I think is to do with the problems with the form as we had a few complaints, I will try and fix this for next time) including a handful of Owf writers, who have collectively, like Dr. Sam Beckett in Quantum Leap, gone back in time to ‘put things right, that once went wrong’.
The number in brackets is the amount of points that film/actor/director gained (that system is explained here). Let’s take a look at the winners, shall we?

It's a pretty slow news day, enough that most blogs appear to be focused on new ways to take care of our health or something. But that's the boring part of the web that doesn't concentrate on movies. The cool blogs are all about one topic today: Michael Bay's personal casting update on Transformers 3: Just Kill Us All Now and Take Over Our Planet Already So We Don't Have to See Anymore of These Movies.
Basically there are two trends involved. One is the shock some people have to the idea that an actor who starred in Con Air and an actress who starred in AEon Flux are stooping to the level of Michael Bay. As for John Malkovich, it's definitely an improvement working with Bay over Simon West. And for Frances McDormand: the Oscar aside, she's probably thankful to be cast by someone other than her husband.

After all the trouble they've had with Wolfman, you'd think Universal would just decide to leave its classic monsters alone. But if you'd think that you'd be an idiot, because all the studio needs to do is look at the success of the Mummy movies, the success of the Twilight movies and the eon of time since the last official Dracula movie to know it's time to dust off the ol' Bram Stoker once again. Seriously, there are kids whose parents weren't even alive when Coppola's movie was in theaters.
So who is Universal getting to play the Count this time? Well, Latino Review says it's going to be Avatar's Sam Worthington. I'm not going to bother saying what I think of the idea, since I'm guessing the only truth to the rumor is that someone at Universal brought his name up. Because his name has been brought up...

Here are some facts:
Every film franchise that hasn't yet had a Part 3 will eventually be rumored to be getting one. Every one of these rumored threequels will "reportedly" be "said" to be getting the 3D treatment, which is the only reason the studio wants to make said threequel. Joe Dante has made a 3D film you've never seen called The Hole, which has been named the best 3D film of 2009 by a jury at the Venice Film Festival. Joe Dante loves movie theater gimmicks, as evidenced with his William Castle homage Matinee. Joe Dante is one of the most underrated filmmakers of our generation, and he deserves more work.
Now here is something an unreliable website probably made up based on all those facts:
"I have very good information from a top source that tells me another Gremlins movie is coming to the silver screens and it will be in stereoscopic 3D!
