Donovan says to his mother "You said it could never happen here, but we woke up one morning and we were in a fascist state." The 1935 anti-fascist novel "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis was the inspiration for V (1983).

Goofs
When the Visitors banners are seen hanging outside the Los Angeles medical centre and other locations their symbol is rotated 90 degrees left. Instead of the two dots appearing right and left of the line the appear above and below.
