Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.
The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.
“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”
Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

“Kraven the Hunter” is ready to take aim.
The J.C. Chandor-directed super villain story, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character, opens on Dec. 13. And you can watch a brand-new trailer below.
Taylor-Johnson plays Sergei Kravinoff, a big game hunter who becomes a conservationist and animal lover. “Kraven the Hunter’s” great supporting cast also includes recent Oscar winner Ariana DeBose plays Calypso, a voodoo princess and Kraven’s love interest, while Russell Crowe plays Kraven’s father and Alessandro Nivola and Christopher Abbott play two other classic Spider-Man baddies – the Rhino and Foreigner, respectively.
The trailer promises plenty of action, with Sony wisely deciding to let Chandor really go for it, embracing its hard R-rating.

While Deadpool & Wolverine is the only MCU movie that will be hitting theaters this year, Sony’s Spider-verse still has two of its villain-ccentric films dropping this year with Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven The Hunter. These films will be released after another Spider-verse movie, Madame Web, made its impression earlier this year. It’s time to hit the game trail as Sony has now released the trailer for Kraven The Hunter.
The film opens December 13 after a couple of delays, in which producer Matt Tolmach explains, “Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again,” Tolmach said. “That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. Beware, "Deadpool & Wolverine," another R-rated Marvel movie is coming for your box office crown. With Dr. Michael Morbius and Cassandra Webb failing to become household names, Eddie Brock preparing to retire, and the rumored "Spider-Man 4" starring Tom Holland still out in the wind, it's up to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Sergei Kravinoff to salvage the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The actor's "Kraven the Hunter" film has gone through multiple release date changes, the most recent of which saw it pushed to mid-December -- because I dunno about you, but when I think of the winter holidays, I think of the guy from "Kick-Ass" biting off people's noses and spitting them out, as Taylor-Johnson does in the first "Kraven" trailer.
In case the actor's face-chomping antics didn't clue you off, "Kraven" has now been officially rated R for "strong bloody violence, and language," and will continue this...

Sony returns to their own Marvel universe with the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, and Sony has unleashed a brand new trailer and poster for the rated “R” comic book movie today.
There was a time when Sony was going to unleash Kraven in theaters in October 2023, but the film was then bumped to August 2024. It’ll now release on December 13, 2024.

“Strong bloody violence, and language.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title character, Marvel’s ultimate predator.
“Kraven the Hunter is the visceral story about how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Set before his notorious vendetta with Spider-Man, Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the titular character in the R-rated film.”
Ariana DeBose will play Calypso in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie.
Christopher Abbott (Possessor) is playing The Foreigner, with Levi Miller (Better Watch Out) also on board.

So far, Sony’s Spider-Man-adjacent Marvel movies have shied away from going hard-r rated – even the Venom films have played it safe overall. But that’s not the case with Kraven The Hunter. The latest outing from the universe formerly known as ‘Spumc’ (the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters) – following on from February’s Madame Web – brings one of Spidey’s most formidable foes to the screen in an origin story that looks to go hard and the blood and gore. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is stepping into the fur-shouldered get-up, on a mission of vengeance that sees him become the world’s greatest hunter. Check out the trailer here:
If there’s an overarching message to this trailer, it’s that Kraven The Hunter is really going hard on the bloody violence – and given that Deadpool & Wolverine just became the second-ever R-rated film to cross the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office,...

Sony Pictures has given movie fans their best glimpse yet at the upcoming Marvel film “Kraven the Hunter” with a new trailer released this week. The studio unveiled the dark footage late Tuesday night, offering a deeper look at the complex story and powerful characters set to hit theaters in December 2024.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, a man driven to become a feared big-game hunter after surviving a lion attack that gives him incredible abilities. This is shown in the trailer, which begins by establishing Kravinoff’s determination to become the best hunter in the world. It then provides scenes of his intense training and the visceral actions he takes in hunts across Africa.

Jc Chandor’s Spider-Man adjacent supervillain comic book film Kraven The Hunter has a gory first trailer which can be watched in this post.
In the same year that also brought us the now legendary Madame Web, Sony Pictures has another Spider-Man adjacent comic book movie on the horizon: Kraven The Hunter.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title villain – more of an anti-hero here we suppose – who’s on a vengeful rampage after he’s left at death’s door following a lion attack. Fortunately for Kraven (name on birth certificate: Sergei Kravinoff), the lion bite gives him superpowers, which he plans to use on his own gangster father (Russell Crowe) who rather unkindly left him for dead.
Kraven The Hunter is rated R in the US for ‘strong and bloody violence’, and there’s a considerable amount of it in the first trailer (see below). In fact, it’s...

Exclusive: After directing Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role of the Spider-Man spinoff Kraven the Hunter, J.C. Chandor has closed a deal with Sony Pictures to direct a new untitled contemporary drama he has written. It might be his next outing as director. This comes after Sony saw Chandor’s latest cut, which prompted a move to a December 13 release slot. The new trailer for Kraven bows shortly.
The new film is a drama that is a callback to his early films Margin Call, A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier, in terms of the polemics of capitalism. I’ve heard this one is a contemporary thriller involving the investigation of a death in a moneyed dynastic family. Think Succession with an Erin Brockovich feel.
Kraven stars Taylor-Johnson as the son of a ruthless Russian gangster (Russell Crowe). He is an incredibly efficient hunter who has a complicated and antagonistic relationship with his father.

Hey, True Believers, remember Kraven the Hunter? I’ll give you a minute to refresh your memory. Are you good? Cool. After dropping off the radar for several months following the debut of a gnarly (and somewhat promising) red-band trailer, Sony delayed Kraven the Hunter until the Christmas box office window. Why? According to producer Matt Tolmach, “Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it, and Christmas is the best release period there is – when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again.” What’s in store for Sony’s next Marvel film? Lots of mature themes, it would seem. Kraven the Hunter is officially rated R for strong bloody violence and language. Let the games begin!

It’s been 10 years since David Oyelowo made his U.S. breakthrough portraying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma.” Playing the awe-inspiring civil rights leader was an opportunity for the British-Nigerian actor to live up to his surname, which translates to “a king deserves respect.”
Oyelowo has been reflecting on that time in his life a lot more lately, thanks in part to “Becoming King,” a documentary directed by his wife, Jessica Oyelowo, that captures the seven-year journey to bring “Selma” to the big screen.
“It was a big year,” he says of 2014. “There was no way you could know the sheer amount of things that would happen, because at the beginning of it, nothing was happening. ‘Selma’ felt dead. I was in the middle of shooting ‘A Most Violent Year,’ having a good time with that, but just feeling in a state of limbo and then—”

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter was supposed to be 2024’s second Spider-Man-adjacent film. However, the studio is trying to put as much space between it and Madam Web as possible. Kraven is just barely staying in the calendar year.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the live-action adaptation of the comic book villain, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has been moved from August 30 to December 13. The Karate Kid previously held this date. Sony has since moved that reboot to May 30, 2025.
Karven the Hunter isn’t being moved due to production delays; it has been ready to go for a while. The latest Spidey adversary flick was initially slated to debut last October. Sony decided against this since the actor’s strike would have left the movie without a cast to talk it up in the press.

After two decades, Participant Media (which has won 21 Oscars) has been forced to shutter as the ongoing turbulence in the film industry continues.
After 20 years in the business, 21 Oscars and 135 films, Participant Media is closing down. The production company behind Oscar-winning films such as Spotlight and Green Book (both of which it co-produced) has been forced to shutter, with the continually-shifting landscape of film production proving to be too uncertain for the studio.
Company founder Jeff Skoll revealed the news yesterday. Around 100 staff will lose their jobs. As well as the films mentioned above, Participant’s mission statement tp produce films with a ‘social conscience’ has seen it involved in the release of some terrific films over the last two decades, including Syriana, Judas And The Black Messiah, Dark Waters, A Most Violent Year, Lincoln, The Post and Contagion, to name just a handful.

In 2011, it might have seemed like Jessica Chastain emerged out of nowhere as a formidable actress, when she appeared in no less than five movies — including Best Picture nominees “The Help” and “The Tree of Life” — and scored her first-ever Oscar nomination. But Chastain worked for years to get to that point, acting in plays from a young age and attending the prestigious Juilliard School. “I struggled for so long to try to create a career,” she told the New York Times in 2017.
In the decade since her breakout year, Chastain has received acclaim for a variety of different roles — from her Oscar-nominated lead part in “Zero Dark Thirty” to her lauded supporting work in “A Most Violent Year” to even a superhero franchise with “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” She’s worked alongside top filmmakers like Terrence Malick, Kathryn Bigelow, J.C. Chandor, Aaron Sorkin, Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott.

Santa Claus won’t be the only mythical figure sliding down chimneys this holiday season! John Woo is getting in on the home invasion action now that Lionsgate is bringing Silent Night to PVOD on December 19. Please buy extra milk and cookies this year. I hear Woo likes Macaroons and Snickerdoodles. While that’s probably inaccurate, he strikes me as a man of taste. It’s been 20 years since Woo’s last American movie, so this is a big deal.
“From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes the gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve,” reads the official synopsis. “While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, Kinnaman makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Co-distributed by Apple Original Films and Paramount Pictures, the crime epic also nabbed prizes for director Martin Scorsese and actress Lily Gladstone. Scorsese’s win for directing is notable, as he is now tied with legendary filmmaker David Lean with four wins, the most of any director in NBR history. Interestingly, NBR has the least translation to an Oscar winner of all the major categories, the last being Scorsese for “The Departed” (2006).
Over the last 30 years, the winner of NBR’s best film has typically gone on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture, except for once every decade — 2014’s “A Most Violent Year,” 2000’s “Quills” and 1998’s “Gods and Monsters.” In the 1980s, there were technically two misses with 1987’s “Empire of the Sun” and 1983’s “Betrayal,...

The Film Independent Spirit Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, a day before the National Board of Review will weigh in on its selections for the best films and performances of 2023. They’ll be following the New York Film Critics Circle who kicked off the season last week by crowning Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” as its top choice. Its West Coast counterpart, Los Angeles Film Critics, will drop their choices on Sunday. Safe to say, the awards season is fully underway.
Celebrating the spirits of indie cinema, the unknown nominating committee will select movies with budgets $30 million and under. This story about Jessica Chastain and “George & Tammy” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama and Limited Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine. This interview took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
An Oscar winner in 2022 for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”and a Tony nominee in 2023 for “A Doll’s House,” Jessica Chastain completed that acting trifecta this year with her first Emmy nomination. It came for “George & Tammy,”the Showtime limited series that she exec-produced and in which she and fellow first-time nominee Michael Shannon play Tammy Wynette and George Jones, the country music legends who chronicled their stormy on-and-off relationship through decades of hit songs — which Chastain and Shannon sing themselves rather than lip-syncing to the original recordings.
I get the feeling that you were as excited about Michael Shannon’s nomination as you were about your own.

Jessica Chastain has been waiting years for a sequel to “A Most Violent Year.”
The Oscar winner and Emmy-nominated “George and Tammy” star revealed during Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast that she is hoping to revisit the 2014 crime drama written and directed by J.C. Chandor. Chastain starred as Anna Morales, the wife of trucking company owner Abel Morales, played by Oscar Isaac, who combats local corruption in 1981 New York City.
“Here’s the reality, and we’ll see if this ever happens, because this is a script I’m waiting to get written. Waiting on,” Chastain said of the possible “A Most Violent Year” follow-up. “It’s a story about capitalism using this family, [it’s] the American story. J.C. has a really good…when I first met with him, he pitched me this whole idea, and I think it’s amazing, so I’m waiting. I’m just waiting to get a script.

It is a rare thing when just the studio attached to a movie can get butts in seats, but that is just what Independent Film Company A24 has done since they were formed in 2012. From humble beginnings with the Roman Coppola directed A Glimpse Inside The Mind of Charles Swan III to break out hits like Ex Machine and The Witch. More recently the studio became the first one to ever sweep the top six awards at this past years Oscars when their films Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Whale took home Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director and Best Picture. As their latest film Talk To Me continues to put up impressive numbers at the box office, we wanted to know: What A24 releases has been your favorite? After the meme-able disaster of Morbius, Sony is back to try again with another unestablished Spider-Man villain solo movie. This time, they’re taking a decidedly R-rated approach, as seen in the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter.
The film stars a jacked Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven, the son of a megalomaniacal crime lord and hunter (Russell Crowe). On a safari to hunt lions, Sergei’s dad leaves him for dead after showing weakness in front of the great cat. In a bit of comic-inaccurate-but-hey-we-gotta-get-him-powers-somehow sci-fi, it seems Sergei’s blood gets mixed with that of a lion, granting him apex predator abilities and apparently a direct line of communication to animals.
He grows up and decides to use his vicious powers to counteract his father’s criminal enterprises; “My father puts evil into the world; I take it out,” he tells Ariana DeBose’s character, reportedly the voodoo priestess Calypso.

Christopher Abbott has quietly become one of the more respected actors on the indie-film scene, and his latest film, Sanctuary, is yet another example why.
Written by Micah Bloomberg and directed by Zachary Wigon, Sanctuary certainly has the trappings of a contained psychological thriller, but it’s ultimately a twisted romcom about power dynamics, starring Abbott and Margaret Qualley. Abbott plays Hal Porterfield, a hotel heir who decides to end his relationship with Rebecca (Qualley), a Denver dominatrix, now that he’s taking the reins of his family’s company. However, Rebecca doesn’t react well to the news or the severance package being offered, given her role in Hal’s success.
Abbott’s characters are often put through the wringer, physically and psychologically, and the Connecticut native also isn’t afraid of humiliation on screen, something Sanctuary reaffirms when Hal is asked by Rebecca to scrub the bathroom floor in his underwear.

The internet can’t get enough of two Star Wars franchise alums, Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac. The pair both carried the banner for the series separately, with Pascal on television and Isaac on the film side. Despite their characters being so far apart in time and space in that fictional universe, though, the pair are extremely close friends in real life.
Their careers have brought them to very different places, over the years, but to similar destinations. Pascal worked his way up the primetime drama ladder before breaking out in film, while Isaac spent much of his time grinding in indie dramas. But they always stay in touch, and even though they rarely appear on screen together, they can barely get through interviews without mentioning each other.

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter movie was previewed during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation last night, and one of the most exciting tidbits revealed about the movie is that it’s most definitely rated “R”! That will make Kraven the Hunter the very first Marvel movie from Sony to be released into theaters with an “R” rating, with lots of bloody violence being promised.
During the CinemaCon panel, star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) referred to the project as “a Marvel movie grounded heavily in the real world.”
“Fuck yeah, it will be rated R,” he promised attendees.
Variety details the footage that was shown at CinemaCon (don’t expect it to appear online), “In the world premiere footage, Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven is a tactical stalker with a penchant for cropped leather vests and five-star hair. He shreds his victims viscerally, often with primitive claw-shaped weapons. Blood pours freely over the screen and,...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson beamed in to Las Vegas’ CinemaCon on Monday to show the first footage from his anticipated Marvel film “Kraven the Hunter” — an ultraviolent spree of blood and throbbing biceps that pleased the annual convention of theater owners.
Taylor-Johnson called the J.C. Chandor-directed project “a Marvel movie grounded heavily in the real world. We know he is a fierce hunter, a highly trained killer.” He then gave an answer to what he deemed “the internet’s biggest question” — whether the film would receive an R-rating.
“Fuck yeah, it will be rated R,” the star said to huge applause from the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino.

Audiences in Las Vegas for CinemaCon Monday night received their first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson in character as Sony’s newest supervillain, Kraven the Hunter. The actor appeared in a pre-taped video introducing the first footage. He described the R-rated film as a Marvel movie heavily grounded in the real world.
Sony has kept the details of the film under wraps up until now, short of emphasizing the film “will bring us on the epic journey that leads Sergei Kravinoff to become one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.” The movie will also include Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott and Alessandro Nivola.
The footage began in a rural countryside where a handful of apparent mercenaries are confronted and hack-and-slashed to death (lots of blood) by Kraven. Russell Crowe, as the dad, provides the “what you are and what you’ll be” narration, noting that he and his son are both predators.

Top Gun: Maverick has been named the best film of 2022 by the National Board of Review, a strong indicator that it could be on its way to a Best Picture nomination.
The National Board of Review’s Best Film winner has been consistent with at least earning a nod for the Academy Award for Best Picture. In fact, since 2000, only three winners didn’t receive a nomination–2000’s Quills, 2014’s A Most Violent Year and 2020’s Da 5 Bloods–suggesting that Top Gun: Maverick could make it to the list of nominees.
However, as far as actual Best Picture winners go, only three this century have gone on to take home the statue: 2007’s No Country for Old Men, 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire and 2018’s Green Book. This, of course, wouldn’t bode well for Top Gun: Maverick, although we’re sure there aren’t many pundits who are predicting the sequel to actually win.

“Top Gun: Maverick” has been named best picture by the National Board of Review, the organization announced Thursday.
The big acting winners included Colin Farrell taking the best actor prize for “The Banshees of Inisherin” after coming off the New York Film Critics Circle win earlier this month. Two NBR winners in the last 12 years have translated to Oscar winners — Casey Affleck for “Manchester by the Sea” (2016) and Will Smith for “King Richard” (2021). For winners becoming eventual nominees, only three men were snubbed by the Academy in the end — Oscar Isaac for “A Most Violent Year” (2014), Tom Hanks for “The Post” (2017) and Adam Sandler for “Uncut Gems” (2019).
Michelle Yeoh gets a huge boost after being announced as Madame Morrible in the upcoming “Wicked” movies and featured on Variety’s Actors on Actors. She can now add NBR best actress winner to her golden day for her turn as laundromat owner...
