MCU is hopefully on an upward spiral as far as the future is concerned, mostly thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine and the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to play Victor Von Doom in the next phase, which will see the legendary scientist be the main villain of the MCU.
But, aside from these exciting projects, the MCU is also going to release a bunch of other projects in the meantime, some of which triggered more excitement, some less. One of these projects is the scheduled Thunderbolts* film, which is set to be released on May 2, 2025, if nothing changes.
At this point, we know very little about the planned movie, but in order to prepare you for what is coming, we have decided to explore the best and most popular fan theories about the upcoming movie, which we are going to present to you in this report.

At this stage, it seems as though Denzel Washington can do no wrong. The man is a Hollywood legend, proving he can take on everything from action blockbuster franchises to thoughtful indie dramas and deliver. If his "Equalizer" movies aren't for you, there's always the expressionist nightmare that is Joel Coen's "The Tragedy Of Macbeth," in which, as /Film's review surmised, Denzel was "ferocious," threatening to "rip that Oscar right out of the throat of the Academy with his bare teeth."

When you walk into David Maisel’s Los Angeles office, the first thing you see is a statue of Iron Man, one of the most recognizable superheroes in the world. Hanging on the wall above him is an illustration of a furry faced character named Grell, a hero far fewer people recognize, but who is getting the spotlight this week at San Diego Comic-Con.
Iron Man represents Maisel’s past as the founding chairman of Marvel Studios, where he had the idea for characters such as Iron Man, Captain America and Thor to live in a shared cinematic universe. Grell represents his future at Mythos Studios, where he is plotting a new cinematic universe called Ekos that will feature not just Grell, but potentially hundreds of other characters.

Many people might not be familiar with the name Morgan Spurlock but in the early 2000s, Spurlock was the talk of the town. Being a documentary filmmaker and television producer, Spurlock received several accolades throughout his career. His greatest feat, however, was creating the iconic documentary Super Size Me.

Since it was the early 2000s, people hadn’t really given importance to the unhealthiness of fast food or junk food. Being a visionary person, Morgan Spurlock decided to jump on that opportunity and created the 2004 film Super Size Me. His body had some great side effects and Spurlock revealed that his body lost resilience after some time!

Love, as everyone has long agreed, makes you do crazy things. Silly things, too, and vastly indulgent things, and occasionally even beautiful ones. Gilles Lellouche does all of these, in significant quantities, in his supersized gangster melodrama “Beating Hearts,” which takes the slender plot of innumerable B-movies of the past — as time and crime collaborate to derail the pure-hearted romance between two pretty young things — and blows it up to a dizzily grand scale, complete with widescreen camera gymnastics, daydreamy reality breaks and sporadic swirls of Old Hollywood musical choreography. It’s a mad indulgence, but also one fully attuned to the mindset of its two besotted lead characters: When you fall completely in love for the first (and maybe last) time, doesn’t your life become its own Technicolor epic?
That air of big-swinging, love-drunk bravado will buy Lellouche’s film a lot of goodwill from audiences — particularly those at home in France,...

Alex Garland’s dystopian Civil War, about America torn asunder by a president run amok and brutal acts of war committed on ordinary citizens, sparked plenty of speculation — and assumptions — heading into its debut in theaters over the April 12-14 weekend.
Would it be a win in blue states but a losing battle in red states? Would it galvanize those Trumpians eager to view the sort of imagery witnessed during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capital? Or would liberals assume it would be a balm for their point of view, and see them turn out in full force? After all, Hollywood isn’t known for being a bastion of Republicans. Ditto for indie studio A24, which produced the film.

The following is a spoiler-filled discussion about “Civil War” between IndieWire Film Editor Ryan Lattanzio, Editorial Director Kate Erbland, and Reviews Editor and Chief Film Critic David Ehrlich. IndieWire’s review of the film can be found here.
David Ehrlich: Before Kate, Ryan, and I saw “Civil War” in IMAX on a Thursday morning earlier this month (a very chill way to start the day), I had fully expected to spend the next few weeks chewing on Alex Garland’s still-pinned hand grenade of a movie about an ununited America — a movie that had already been met with an appropriately polarized reaction at every stage of its existence, and would continue to be raved about and read for filth on the internet in the time leading up to its spectacular first weekend at the box office. A great many people appear to have come out of “Civil War,” Alex Garland’s a-house-divided-against-itself-can-kick-highly-equipped-military-ass dystopian combat thriller, feeling all shook up. They’re disturbed by it, unsettled by it. They experience the movie as if it were holding a violent mirror up to the simmering rage of America’s current political/spiritual/ ideological divide. Many critics have been seriously spooked by it, and so have columnists like the New York Times’ Michelle Goldberg. The filmmaker and Facebook pundit Paul Schrader said he was scared by it. And to judge from how many tickets the film is selling, in a $25 million opening weekend that bodes well for the future of adult dramas with topical resonance (on that score let’s all be grateful), I would guess that a solid portion of the audience was scared too.
But I was not scared by “Civil War,” even a little bit. Actually,...

Sunday Am: A24 is calling Civil War at a $25.7M opening, largely fueled by Democrat and Liberal moviegoers, but with overperforming business in some Red state regions like the South and Southwest.
Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak polled Civil War attendees’ politics reporting that 22% considered themselves Liberal, 19% were Democrats, 11% considered themselves moderate, whereas registered Republicans (6%), Evangelical Christians (6%) and politically conservative folks (5%) showed up as a minority.
The markets that overperformed were L.A., San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, Austin, Navy hub San Diego, and conservative market Denver. But then there were these smaller regional markets that rallied, including El Paso and Waco, Texas, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Charlottesville, Virginia. As we told you, South, South Central, and West were the best regions for the A24 release, which follows journalists chronicling a divided, violent America.

Kirsten Dunst’s latest onscreen avatar, a hardened war photographer named after the iconic Lee Miller, doesn’t have much time to waste. In Alex Garland’s heart-pounding actioner “Civil War,” Dunst and her Lee are at the center of a fractured America that isn’t quite done combusting just yet, as she head through a bombed-out, terrifying Un-United States in a bid to get to Washington, D.C. before everything really falls apart. There’s not a lot of time for artifice or florid conversation or icing over the tough stuff.
As the Oscar nominee recently explained to IndieWire, the film isn’t exactly what people might be expecting, and while that kind of chatter might sound like standard press tour fare meant to drum up audience interest, Dunst is so straightforward in her interviews — so free of artifice, of saying stuff just to say it — that the message feels even more resonant.

The A24 original movie Civil War is just a few days away (April 12). Famed director Alex Garland, whose past films include Men, Annihilation, and Ex Machina, is helming the dystopian thriller.
The movie’s first action-packed trailer became quite popular after it was released in December 2023. The plot of Civil War, which stars Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Nick Offerman, follows a group of journalists as they travel across the country during the rapidly intensifying Second American Civil War that has engulfed the entire country.
And, Offerman is assuming the role of President of the United States.

A24’s Alex Garland dystopian U.S. movie Civil War is looking at an $18 million-$24 million opening frame when it hits North American theaters over April 12-14.
In this oddball marketplace, ya gotta figure downside as we’re still limping away from the strike. While Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is eyeing a $45M opening this weekend, I hear presales on that title are low. If that Jason Reitman-produced movie is going to hit the mid-$40M range, it really needs a big turnout by Latino moviegoers and walk-ups.
Further boosting projections on Civil War is A24’s grab of Imax screens. The current Rotten Tomatoes critics score on Civil War following its electric SXSW world premiere is 91% fresh.

While bound to spark hundreds of think pieces, Alex Garland’s stirring Civil War will undoubtedly go down, too, as one of the most provocative films of the year. It’s also an early contender for one of the best, offering a stunning warning: no matter what the cause, war is hell. Civil War is less interested in the causes of conflict and more about front lines as the Western Forces march towards the White House through the East Coast, turning small towns into battlefields.
Before January 6, and certainly before 9/11, the alternate universe that Garland sets up would feel unimaginable, yet the Englishman offers a clear warning portraying a world––including a New York City–– that has been modified (à la the Covid era) for new circumstances. In some pockets, including a small town and luxury hotel, life continues with some sense of normalcy and multiple layers of security and...

The festival’s opening night premiere, Doug Liman’s “Road House,” falls somewhere in the cracks between film and TV, as controversially the Jake Gyllenhaal-led ’80s throwback reimagining will not play theaters from Amazon MGM Studios and will instead plop on Amazon Prime Video on March 21. (“Road House” and Amazon MGM are meanwhile in the thick of a copyright lawsuit filed by the 1989 original’s screenwriter R. Lance Hill that also messily involves the studio’s alleged AI usage to rush completion on the movie.)
Similarly, the deep-pocketed but theatrically stingy streamer’s “The Idea of You,” a Coachella-set romantic dramedy from director Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway, will also be a Prime Video exclusive this May after playing SXSW.

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Today I’m chatting with Power Book III: Raising Kanan star, Patina Miller. As a major talent across film, television and musical theater Miller portrays Raquel “Raq” Thomas on the Starz original series which is coming up on the end of its third season.
Raising Kanan is the third show in the Power Universe. This one is about a young Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s character from the first series) and how he joins his family’s growing and dangerous drug business. It takes place in Queens, New York during the 1990’s.
Raq is the mother of Kanan. To Kanan, she might come across as affectionate, yet on the streets, she embodies the epitome of toughness, navigating the male-dominated world with a blend of coldness, determination,...

Already one of France’s most beloved and bankable actors (“The Stronghold”), Gilles Lellouche is about to graduate as a big-shot filmmaker five years after delivering his sophomore outing, “Sink or Swim,” a B.O. hit which lured more than four million moviegoers (over $35 million) in theaters.
His next movie, “Beating Hearts” (“L’amour Ouf”), budgeted in the €30 million range, is epic in many ways. And not just because of its breadth and running time exceeding three hours. A crime romance loosely based on Neville Thompson’s 1997 novel “Jackie Loves Johnser Ok,” the movie is an emotional rollercoaster spanning over 15 years in the lives of star-crossed lovers. It took Lellouche over a decade to write (alongside Audrey Diwan and Ahmed Hamidi) and four months to shoot with a cast mixing rising and famous actors, a pulsating soundtrack of cult 1980s and 1990s songs, topnotch key crew and dream-like musical interludes created by (La) Horde.

Studiocanal rolled out the red carpet at the Unifrance Paris Rendez-vous this week for actor Gilles Lellouche’s upcoming feature film Beating Hearts (L’Amour Ouf).
First images for the unconventional romance played on the big screen to two packed-out screenings at the swanky Royal Monceau hotel off the Champs-Elysées on Thursday evening.
The modern Romeo and Juliet tale co-stars François Civil, who is currently riding high on the back of his D’Artagnan role in Pathé’s Three Musketeers reboot, and Adèle Exarchopoulos as former childhood sweethearts from different sides of the tracks.
Having gone their separate ways when the boy gets caught up in gang violence and lands in jail on trumped-up murder charges, the pair reconnect against the odds years later.

Kirsten Dunst, Wagna Moura and Nick Offerman don’t need your civil war in an apocalyptic trailer for Alex Garland’s action epic. More below…
It looks like A24 weren’t kidding when they said they were looking to move into the action genre.
According to The Wrap, executives at the company spent this summer shopping around for “action and big IP projects”. They might have greenlit Alex Garland’s new war movie back in 2022, but from the look of the film’s first trailer, that transition into more mainstream fare seems well underway.
Check out the first Civil War trailer below:
Set in a near-future USA, the film finds a group of journalists journeying across a country tearing itself apart after 19 states secede from the union. The country’s fascist President, played by Nick Offerman, responds to the violence by ordering air strikes on his country’s citizens, and...

Writer-director Alex Garland asks you to suspend all disbelief as you watch the official trailer for Civil War. The idea that individual states could team up and fight the U.S. military isn’t as far-fetched as Garland’s choice to have California and Texas fighting on the same side. The action must be taking place on Earth-2.
Garland’s a brilliant filmmaker, so it’s possible he’ll be able to convince audiences that a universe exists in which California and Texas agree on at least one political issue.
The cast includes Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Nick Offerman, and Sonoya Mizuno from Garland’s Devs television series. Real-life couple Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog) and Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon) also star along with Wagner Moura (The Gray Man).

Slave narratives felt like horror stories long before "Antebellum" combined its Civil War setting with the themes of a story like "Get Out." But the makers of the 2020 film do want to make one thing clear: While "Antebellum" certainly doesn't shy away from the horrors of the era, it's not actually a slave movie.
That may feel counterintuitive for a film that seems to revel in its gruesome setting. With its first act, "Antebellum" answers an age-old, horrifying hypothetical: "What if the South won the Civil War?" It drops us face-first into what could be a parallel reality, one where white supremacy reigns. It'd be easy to write "Antebellum" off as a slave movie based solely on what's happening on the surface — but a closer look reveals a handful of anachronisms sprinkled throughout the Antebellum-set film. Slaves bear tattoos and nose piercings; the spirituals they sing while picking cotton...

Since premiering on HBO in 2019, Sam Levinson’s “Euphoria” has attracted almost as much attention for its chaotic production process as its outlandish plotlines and star-studded cast. Reports have circulated about the show’s lengthy shoots and alleged mistreatment of actors, with many voices speculating that Levinson’s complete creative control and decision to direct most episodes himself has needlessly slowed the process down. But “Euphoria” Emmy winner Colman Domingo thinks those rumors are overblown.
In a new interview with The Independent to promote his role in the Netflix Civil Rights drama “Rustin,” Domingo was asked if “Euphoria” is an abnormally difficult set on which to work. He disagreed with that framing, saying that long hours and difficult shoots are a standard part of any actor’s job.
“No,” Domingo said. “Not one bit. I’m not gonna invalidate [anyone’s] experience. But working in television is long hours. Sometimes you work up to 14 hours a day.

We got some sad news today as we have learned that director Jeff Burr, best known for Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Stepfather II, Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, and more, has died. He was just 60 years old.
Like many future horror directors, Jeff Burr grew up reading horror magazines like Famous Monsters of Filmland and making his own Super-8 movies. He later attended the University of Southern California but dropped out after his third year to finish his American Civil War drama Divided We Fall with co-director Kevin Meyer. His second feature found him entering the world of horror, and he scored a superstar of the genre to star in it: The one and only Vincent Price.

There’s a story of thrillingly righteous indignation sitting at the core of Maggie Betts’s The Burial. This flashy legal melodrama is fitfully stirring but too flabby to deliver the walloping blow that it needs. The high points are delivered primarily by Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones, who make a good effort to fill in the gaps left by the spotty screenplay.
Based on a New Yorker article by A Civil Action author Jonathan Harr, the film works as hard to get its audience interested in contract law as Foxx’s high-octane personal injury lawyer, Willie Gary, does when whipping up a jury’s emotions about arcane legal matters. The case in question pits Mississippi funeral home director Jeremiah O’Keefe (Jones) against the Loewen Group, a funeral home and cemetery company, after the conglomerate stalled on an agreement to buy some of the man’s locations, possibly to run him out of business.

There are a few documentarians who dabble in feature filmmaking: R.J. Cutler (“If I Stay”), Matt Heineman (“A Private War”), even Werner Herzog (there are many). To their ranks we can now add Oscar-winner Roger Ross Williams (“Music By Prudence”), and he’s all in on making it work.
At Telluride, Williams screened his well-reviewed Sundance feature “Cassandro”; saw the world premiere of “Stamped from the Beginning” at the Toronto International Film Festival; and Apple TV+ will air his four-part docuseries “The Super Models” September 20.
It’s an eclectic and vibrant collection of work and none of it was straightforward or easy. “Cassandro” is based on the true story of Luchador Saúl Armendáriz (Gael García Bernal in a career-best performance) who finds his true identity as the cross-dressing El Exotico on the Mexico wrestling circuit. Williams met his subject on the Amazon documentary short “The Man Without a Mask” (2016).

If there's one streaming movie this year that screams "blockbuster potential," it's "Rebel Moon." Zack Snyder's sci-fi epic has not only been years in the making, but it's also already earned a sequel. In a crowded streaming landscape, it's tough to tell ahead of time which Netflix Originals will flop, which will bring in plenty of viewers yet leave a light cultural footprint, and which will become a genuine phenomenon.
But it seems like if any Netflix movie is going to make a big impression these days, it's "Rebel Moon." The sci-fi movie evolved out of an idea Snyder had for a "Star Wars" film a full decade ago, but by this point, it's its own story. "Rebel Moon" is set to follow a young woman named Kora who searches for warriors to help stand up against the forces of a villainous ruler named Regent Balisarius (per Tudum). The...

Two discordant city employees ploughing through an incredibly mundane job inspecting benches come to an unexpected and perceptive understanding of each other upon finding one of their charges housing a homeless man who offers up some astute philosophical food for thought. Filmmaker Serkan Bayrak’s debut fiction short Civil Servant (Staatsdiener) looks at the fundamental differences between us all and with his playful, carefully crafted scripting and delicately balanced characters, shows us that no matter whatever way of living you may prescribe to, there is always a middle ground to be found. Set in the natural beauty of Germany’s Erftstadt forest, Civil Servant employs well thought out visual language keeping the viewer engaged in this dialogue led short. With the film very much in the thick of its festival journey, we spoke to Bayrak about scheduling actor rehearsals months before filming in order to better tailor the script for their performances,...

The Gabriel Garcia Márquez quote that appears at the start of Joan Baez I Am a Noise — “Everyone has three lives: the public, the private and the secret” — is an apt choice for this introspective docu-portrait of the era-defining musician and activist. The veteran folk singer’s seeming self-possession and the crystalline purity of that voice thrust her into the spotlight at 18. But there’s a world of difference between that serene image and the troubled woman who initially wrestled with the privileges of fame and even now, six decades later, still struggles with demons that come and go.
Baez gets remarkably frank about her long history of therapy and her sometimes disturbing excavations of childhood experience, which makes this intimate film by Miri Navasky, Maeve O’Boyle and Karen O’Connor feel more thorough as a personal reflection than a career summation. But anyone with an interest in the key artists...

As part of its presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, TNT has made several key series announcements with the big one being its naval action drama "The Last Ship" being renewed for a fourth season.
The Turner-owned network has also greenlit the limited-run discussion series "The Race Card" which famed athlete Charles Barkley will produce. Barkley plans to take on today's hot-button topics by seeking out the sharpest and most varied viewpoints from cultural leaders and tastemakers. Six hour-long episodes are planned for an early 2017 launch.
Finally, they're also doing "Monsters of God," the Rod Lurie-produced post-Civil War drama which explores the savagery and violence of Colonel "Terrible" Bill Lancaster's holy war against the Comanche as he sets out on a quest to kill off every single member of the tribe. Lurie wrote the script and serves as executive producer and director on the pilot.

“The Contender” director Rod Lurie has landed a pilot order at TNT for “Monsters of God,” a drama that chronicles Colonel “Terrible” Bill Lancaster’s holy war against the Comanche in post-Civil War Texas.
“Monsters of God” was previously developed at Starz. The project has been a long-gestating passion project for Lurie, a former U.S. Army artillery officer who has spent a great deal of time researching the Comanche Wars.
TNT confirmed the greenlight Sunday during its portion of the TV Critics Association press tour, where it also announced that it had ordered new Charles Barkey series “The Race Card,” and renewed “The Last Ship” for a fourth season.
