One of the silliest, most head-scratching, unintentionally funny (and sometimes insulting), but also quite entertaining series is back. Yes, "The Last Ship" strikes again, with some of the most un-Spanish people ever, strange accents and nonsensical plot developments abound.
There is a new threat (this time a virus that attacks food instead of humans) and the Nathan James and its crew are in the middle of it (because, they were just bored). Staying in the Spanish base of Rota, the crew of the Nathan James is trying to find some seeds that will save humanity, but things will turn sour pretty fast.
Tom Chandler, though, is nowhere to be found, enjoying a retirement with yet another younger woman, Sasha Cooper probably too old for him (anyway...). There are some shady characters in the Greece he is living in, and you can see from a mile away what is going to happen.
Ironically enough, as always with this series, even if the accents are 'strange' and some people seem to have wandered in from the wrong set (that Spanish boy and the Spanish guard suspects number one and two), it all is entertaining enough. The new threat keeps things interesting (something the show needed, the story-line of the old virus just couldn't be stretched longer) and we already know things are going to keep blowing up.
Now, will the action and the characters' interactions help us forget all the gross problems of the series with geography? We will see what this season has on offer... For now, good enough.
