The $500 Million Man Is Now A Name Partner At This Litigation Powerhouse
Holy crap, that's a lot of money!
We briefly mentioned this back in March, but Kellogg Huber — the litigation powerhouse that pays its first-year associates the enviable salary of $225,000 — has changed its name. At the time, many wondered why the elite firm would boot two people from its name partner roster to add one more, but now, the reason is pretty clear.
The firm once known as Kellogg, Huber, Hansen, Todd, Evans & Figel is now Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick. Mark Evans, who retired from the firm about a decade ago, and Peter Huber, who remains a partner but spends the majority of his time writing books, have lost top billing and been replaced by David Frederick.
Why David Frederick, you might ask? Helping the firm rake in half a billion dollars from a single client probably didn’t hurt. The National Law Journal has the details:

Among a string of notable successes, a team led by Frederick earned $506.3 million in contingency fees in a series of cases brought by the National Credit Union Administration against banks that sold toxic mortgage-backed securities. (The NCUA, which won $4 billion in settlements from the banks, revealed the fees last fall.)
The firm made the name change to coincide with its 24th anniversary, on March 1.
Frederick is a well-known Supreme Court advocate who specializes in plaintiffs-side cases — he’s argued more than 40 cases before the high court. Michael Kellogg, the firm’s founder and managing partner, says Frederick has been “an important part of our success.” As far as the name change is concerned, Kellogg played it cool: “It’s pretty straightforward, really. Eventually you kind of run out of space with the names.” Meanwhile, Frederick said he was “honored” to be made a name partner.
Congratulations to David Frederick on his latest achievement! He’s certainly earned it.
