Here's whether Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation is One Piece Universe Canon and How Many Episodes it Has
One Piece is settling in on Netflix. After the live-action series and the Egghead storyline, we got the spin-off Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. We answer whether it's canonical and how many episodes it consists of.
Since last year, Netflix has been investing heavily in the One Piece brand and releasing the fruit of these developments on its platform, thanks to which we received a live-action series, a new anime series - Egghead, as well as a spin-off called Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation and as if that wasn't enough, the remake of the original anime is currently underway. So, there is a lot going on in the topic of One Piece and now we would like to introduce you to the latest production from this universe, the above-mentioned spin-off - Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation.
The production delves into the story of Zoro Roronoa's ancestor, the samurai Ryuma, who lives in a world threatened by a powerful dragon capable of bringing annihilation and ruin to entire cities. Ryuma sets out on a mission to defeat this beast, during which he will face numerous obstacles and challenges. The Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation OVA is based on the Monsters one-shot by Eiichiro Oda, who confirmed in volume 47 of the One Piece manga that this story is canon. This wasn't sure until the Thriller Bark plotline.
How many episodes does Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation feature?
Fans who were hoping for an extended story starring Ryuma, unfortunately, will be disappointed. Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation consists of only one 25-minute episode, which is now available on Netflix .
Perhaps, with the current development road Netflix took, we will get more One Piece spin-offs in the future. For now, however, Ryuma's story is confined to these several dozen minutes in which the entire Monsters one-shot is shown.
