"Unlock IT Efficiency: The power of the modern endpoint"

Watch Now

Today, we're thrilled to announce that the Cameyo team is joining Google. This exciting development marks a significant milestone in our mission to make legacy applications accessible and easy to manage within the ChromeOS ecosystem. By bringing the Cameyo team's expertise in-house, we are doubling down on our commitment to delivering a streamlined experience for virtualized applications.

The future of end user computing is web based

The future of IT is here, and it's web-based. A new Forrester study commissioned by Google confirms what many have long suspected—90% of IT respondents envision a world where applications reside in the cloud, not on the desktop.1 Seventy-eight percent of respondents indicated that companies that don’t embrace the web will be left behind.1 This isn't just a trend; it's a fundamental shift in how businesses operate.

By embracing web-based applications now, businesses can unlock significant advantages over their competitors, including improved security, reduced costs, and enhanced user experiences. However, the same study reveals that a staggering 50% of applications remain client-based.1

The Solution: Virtual Application Delivery

Traditionally, businesses have leveraged virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions to access legacy apps without them being installed on the device. However, the Forrester Consulting study highlights challenges with this approach, including the need for “specialized skill sets, user experience latency, and difficulty in security and management.”

Forrester's research recommends a way to fill in the gaps: virtual application delivery (VAD). This innovative approach to virtualization streamlines the delivery of legacy applications to any device, eliminating the need for a full desktop environment. VAD significantly simplifies application management, making it easier for IT teams to keep software up-to-date and secure, all while improving the end-user experience by making all apps accessible without needing to sign in to a separate virtual desktop environment first. With VAD, users have seamless access to both web-based and legacy apps side-by-side without having to change their behavior.

ChromeOS and Cameyo: A Perfect Pairing

ChromeOS has long been committed to providing users with the best possible experience for virtual applications. Recognizing the potential of VAD, we partnered with Cameyo last year to launch a seamless virtual application delivery experience fully integrated with ChromeOS—with local file system integration, ability to deliver virtual apps as progressive web apps (PWAs) and enhanced clipboard support. These features ensure users can seamlessly access data and files in a secure, easy, and familiar way within virtual apps.

This collaboration with Cameyo has proven incredibly successful in helping organizations transition away from cumbersome legacy applications, improving security and productivity.

Deploying apps with ChromeOS and Cameyo is remarkably simple. Session management, load balancing, failover, etc.—it’s all handled by Cameyo, so all we had to focus on was the apps we wanted to publish. It was very easy to get set up, and ongoing management is a breeze —especially when compared to traditional virtual desktop approaches. Cameyo is a key element to enabling our long-term Chrome Enterprise strategy. The fact that Cameyo has deep partnerships and integration with Chrome Enterprise and Google Cloud makes this an even more strategic fit.

What This Means for You

For ChromeOS users, this means even greater access to your critical legacy applications, without the hassle of complex installations or updates. IT teams can breathe a sigh of relief as they gain more control over application management, reducing security risks and freeing up valuable resources.

The integration of Cameyo's technology with ChromeOS helps businesses accelerate their adoption of web-based technology by:

  • Simplifying application deployment: Virtualized applications can be easily deployed and accessed across your organization, regardless of device or location.
  • Enhancing security: Both ChromeOS and Cameyo provide zero trust security, and together deliver deep protection of data and systems from vulnerabilities.
  • Improving productivity: Employees can access the applications they need quickly and easily as a PWA directly from the ChromeOS shelf, without the frustration of compatibility issues, slow performance, or virtual desktops to navigate.
  • Reducing IT costs: Streamlining application management, support processes, and removing infrastructure requirements translates to significant cost savings over time.

Looking Ahead

The future of legacy applications on ChromeOS is bright. By combining the power of ChromeOS with Cameyo's innovative VAD technology, we are empowering businesses to modernize their IT infrastructure while preserving their investments in existing software.

Join us for our webinar tomorrow, June 6th, featuring Andrew Hewitt, Principal Analyst at Forrester, to learn more about the findings from the study plus hear from Rob Beard, our ChromeOS Product Manager, to walk through how ChromeOS can help your business modernize.
