Summary

edit
Description The British Museum houses a number of stone sarcophagi, each with its own unique history and significance. One of the most popular is the anthropoid sarcophagus of Sasobek, a high priest of Osiris who lived in Egypt during the 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC). The sarcophagus is made of black granite and depicts Sasobek in human form, with his hands crossed on his chest and a serene expression on his face. The sarcophagus is decorated with hieroglyphs that identify Sasobek and list his titles and offerings to the gods.
