Hi - thanks for contributing to the commons. However, please do not upload copyrighted logos and such to the commons, as images under fair use are not allowed here. I have therefore deleted Mozilla_Firefox_Logo.png, sorry. -- Duesentrieb 23:29, 10 May 2005 (UTC)

Wikinews graphs
Hi there. I was just wondering -- what software did you use to generate those funky Wikinews graphs? —Ghakko 04:15, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Hi NGerda, I like the graphs for wikinews but they are getting a little out of date now, any chance you can update them? [1] thanks Pluke 10:03, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for this touching and heart moving photo of an Agent Orange victim. Can you explain to me why you have licensed it under GFDL when this source claims it is a photo from Associated Press? Thuresson 22:43, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I found it here and assumed GFDL. I now see that I'm wrong, and you can delete the image. NGerda 22:58, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Photos from the government of Canada are protected by copyright. The conditions do not allow some uses, e.g. commercial use. See en:Template:CanadaCopyright for information. This photo will be deleted. Thuresson 22:56, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- OK, it was uploaded to Wikinews as Fair use. NGerda 22:58, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The source for this photo [2] clearly says "AP laserphoto 1980". I assume that Associated Press owns this photo too. Thuresson 23:38, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Image:Wikinews logo Large.png is not redundant. It is a high resolution version of the current Wikinews logo. Please remove the Redundant tag. NGerda 17:18, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, if you look again, you'll find that the two are the same resolution. In general, we prefer to avoid having modifiers like "large" in image titles, since we should have only the largest version anyway. dbenbenn | talk 17:58, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, if you look again, you'll find that the two are not the same resolution. The current logo is much smaller. NGerda 18:26, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hi again, NGerda. I tagged Image:Wikinews Spanish logo.png as being redundant to Image:Wikinews-logo-es.png. We only want the largest possible images here. Also, we have a naming convention for Wikimedia logos. Image:Russian Wikinews logo.png should be Image:Wikinews-logo-ru.png. Could you re-make that Russian logo, starting with the large Image:Wikinews-logo.png? Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 3 July 2005 18:31 (UTC)
- I'll re-upload a high res version; I didn't know that's what you wanted. I actually created the high res Wikinews logo, so it'll be pretty easy for me to do. One hurdle I have to overcome is replacing the current logos on the Wikinews sites with the new ones. NGerda 3 July 2005 23:14 (UTC)

Hi NGerda. Could you re-upload Image:122979main launch.jpg again to a different title? When you do, make sure to provide your source, including a URL. Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 21:53, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- I went ahead and put the photo at Image:123520main 1735-lg.jpg. Could you provide more information about it please? Where did you find it? Is there a page at nasa.gov somewhere with a description? Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 15:00, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Fallujah kids.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Fallujah kids.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:07, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

File source is not properly indicated: File:Hurricane Katrina Predicted Path.png
This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Hurricane Katrina Predicted Path.png, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
:File:Hurricane Katrina Predicted Path.png ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
Likewise File:Hurricane Katrina Predicted Path.jpg. Descriptions would be useful too. Thanks much. --Infrogmation (talk) 13:12, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called NGerda. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name NGerda~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
