According to a press release from the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Ken Wyatt: "All Australians can now put the Aboriginal Flag on apparel such as sports jerseys and shirts, it can be painted on sports grounds, included on websites, in paintings and other artworks, used digitally and in any other medium without having to ask for permission or pay a fee."

It is therefore likely to be freely licensed for personal and most commercial uses, however, commercial production of flags and bunting within Australia remains exclusively licensed and manufactured by Carroll and Richardson Flagworld, in a similar capacity to being trademarked. Personal physical flag reproductions are explicitly exempt.
