An Absorbascon is a Thanagarian device that enables its user to telepathically read the minds and/or psychic imprint left behind on environmental placings by other sentient life forms.[2]
History
An Absorbascon is only effective against non-Thanagarians used primarily as an educational tool, it can also be used as a weapon or a tool of espionage. Hawkman and Hawkwoman used the Absorbascon to learn about Earth's cultures and languages.
A Thanagarian can also use this device to interpret the vocal patterns of lower order animals such as birds, which is how the Hawks can communicate with birds.
In the wake of the Source Wall's damaging during Dark Nights: Metal, the exotic energy bleeding in from the multiverse supercharged all forms of Nth Metal; including that which is found within the Absorascon.[1] Now not only could it absorb, project and categorize the thought patterns of other living beings, it also had the power to make whatever was on one's mind a reality. Provided the mind powering it was strong enough to handle the transfer and materialization of another's ideal world and imprint it upon existence.
Notes
- In Earth-One continuity, the Absorbascon cannot read the minds of Superman, Wonder Girl, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Doctor Fate, Gentleman Ghost, or George Emmett.[3][4][5] It is unknown if this is the case in any continuity since.
