Batman (real name Bruce Wayne) was a genius and righteous vigilante detective and founder of the Bat Family, and a founding member of the Justice League. The primary protector of Gotham City, he left behind in his successors a legacy of justice and hope that will never be forgotten.
History
Bruce witnessed the deaths of his parents at the hands of a criminal when he was a child. This led him to become the vigilante known as Batman when he grew up. He would then find himself working alongside others, including Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood. He also worked alongside Commissioner James Gordon, to not only clean up the streets, but also the police force of Gotham as well. He would also become a founding member of the Justice League, alongside the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman.
Sometime following the death of Gordon, Bruce gave his faithful butler and longtime ally, Alfred Pennyworth, some much needed time off. It was then that Ra's al Ghul infiltrated the Batcave and engaged the Caped Crusader. Bruce was injured bad, but he was able to knock Ra's down before issuing a Code Black to the Bat Family. He sealed himself and Ra's in the cave, then detonated explosives set about prior, which destroyed both the cave, as well as Wayne Manor above it. Sometime later however, it was revealed that Talia al Ghul, Ra's daughter and one of Bruce's many loves, was responsible for not only taking Bruce's body, but also using a concealed Lazarus Pit in the deeper parts of the cave to resurrect him, as well as make his mind susceptible to her suggestions. This led to a brief confrontation with the Knights, who were able to snap Bruce out of this control, as well as brief him on what he had missed during this time. This also included briefing him in on their discovery on the Court of Owls and their desire to find a "fountain of youth". It was then that the Knights dealt with Talia, while Bruce took what remained of his damaged Batwing and ram it into the Lazarus Pit, sacrificing himself, but also taking the Talons and Court of Owls with him.
