The Butcher is an entity representing rage on the emotional spectrum. This makes it an important figure to the Red Lantern Corps, and an enemy to the Green Lantern Corps. James Kim and Atrocitus have both been living hosts to the rage entity. The Butcher was created by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke, first appearing in Green Lantern (Volume 4) #52. (2010)
There have been several other characters to use this name. There was a Butcher in Metropolis who fought Lois Lane using an experimental ray. John Butcher was a Native American soldier who became a vigilante when his family was murdered. There is another villain called the Butcher who was hired by Hell to kill Resurrection Man.
