Quote1 Before Everything, before life and death and matter and magic, out of the dark came The Source. The Cosmos churned and the Forces danced with each other like threads on Destiny's Loom. Which birthed the Lords of Chaos and Order. And, just a little after them, the Gods. Old, then New. Finally, out of the churning maelstrom of mundane life came the Ascended. That's where you come in. Synopsis for "Lucis Lator"

After their time trip with Lonar, John Stewart and his crew arrive at the planet Anacitus to protect the people from mind-controlled citizens. Lonar still doesn't explain how John has "ascended," giving him cryptic answers. But John ignores him and uses his newfound powers to protect the civilians and fight the winged invaders. Lonar points out that the real battle isn't there in Anacitus but beyond the portals where the mind-controlled people are going through. John decides to go through the portal and he arrives in another world filled with the same winged invaders and a giant made of light, along with a mysterious hooded man in a floating throne that welcomes him.

Meanwhile, Jo Mullein and Peya Fel inspect a recording of a meeting from a year ago between the Guardians of the Universe and the Young Guardians. In the recording, Guardians Koyos and Nemosyni warn their comrades about "merging" with the children. Peya notes that those two Guardians keep appearing in many other intriguing records, where they continuously show to be at odds with the other Guardians. They also seemed to work together privately, with Menosyni's focus appearing to be mechanics, while Koyos's remain unclear. On another record from two years ago, Koyos traveled to Zerox, the so-called Sorcerer's World, and stayed there for 27 days. During his absence, Nemosyni kept traveling between Earth and Oa with unknown motives.

Jo, who barely knows the Guardians, is baffled by all this mystery. She asks Peya to keep extracting more files about these two Guardians. Jo flies away, and she encounters a group of former Green Lanterns attempting to enter the Oan armory. She neutralizes the revolt and uses her Council privileges to grant all Green Lanterns access to anywhere in Oa, except for the Guardian tower and the Sciencells.

Peya Fel finally discovers Nemosyni was forging Qwardian weapons. Suddenly, a green burst of energy ravages the entire lab, and Nemosyni herself stands over the unconscious Peya.
