Synopsis for "Running Hot and Cold!"
Superboy gets back from meeting with the rest of Earth's heroes during the events of The Final Night. The sun has been swallowed by a Sun-Eater, the Earth is freezing, and in 24 hours the sun will go nova and wipe out the planet. Superboy returns to The Compound, where everyone is watching Tana Moon broadcasting from the Mauna Loa volcano, where thousands have gathered to feel its warmth. Rex Leech is depressed, feeling that he is about to die and all he's ever been is a crook. Roxy takes Superboy to her room and tells him that she loves him, and that she always has. SB doesn't know how to react--and then the news feed goes out. The Kid has to go to Tana, leaving a tearful Roxy behind.
At the volcano, a bizarre creature made of lava emerges and attacks the Kid. He battles it back as it reveals that it was once a scientist named Phillipe. His wife Sylvia is there and they embrace and fall back into the caldera. Superboy is with Tana as the snow continues to fall and Earth's darkest night goes on.
