Genesis is a powerful radioactive mineral found on Warworld.
History
Genesis is the crystalised blood of Olgrun, the first and mightiest of the Old Gods.[1] It is a potent energy source but also has dangerous mutagenic properties.[2] Genesis can be used as an alternative to yellow sunlight to fuel and even enhance the powers of Kryptonians and Phaelosians, but their cells can only safely absorb the Genesis energy if the mutative radiation is filtered out.[3][4][5][6]
All pieces of Genesis are connected and react to anything that is done to any others. Due to this it can be used for instantaneous communication across interstellar distances. It also appears to exist at least partially outside linear time, as it has been observed responding pre-emptively to something an observer is planning to do. Genesis has been theorised to be a form of sentient energy.[7][8]
The Orphan Boxes of Warworld, created by Teacher in imitation of the Mother and Fatherboxes used by the New Gods, are made from carved Genesis.[1] They can channel the energy of The Source to a variety of effects.
A fragment of Genesis was brought to Earth by three Phaelosians who had been sent to Earth by Mongul in order to lure Superman to Warworld.[9] As their ship crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, the Fragment was claimed by Atlantis. The United States demanded that the Atlanteans surrender the Fragment to them, which almost lead to war between Atlantis and the surface, as well as a split within the Justice League.[2][10] Superman confiscated the Fragment from the Atlanteans and announced that he would not let any power on Earth control it.[11] He gave the fragment to Steel for safe keeping and study.[7] It was later stolen by Conduit, acting on the orders of Amanda Waller.[12] Conduit tried to absorb the fragment's power, which almost killed him, and the Superman Family were forced to destroy it to save his life.[13]
Superman's rebels on Warworld used Genesis to convert the planetoid's red solar generators into white, restoring Superman's powers and granting powers to the Phaelosians. They used their powers to overthrow Mongul and free the people of Warworld.[5]
