Harlan Combs was the third Firebug, a Gotham City arsonist.
History
Combs was a thrill-seeking yuppie and family man[1] who bought Firebug's costume from Joseph Rigger at a Keystone City auction. With it, he proceeded to launch a string of arson fires throughout Gotham City. When his family babysitter, Bonnie Lewis, discovered the costume inside a secret panel in his closet, he bludgeoned her to death with one of the suit's tanks and disposed of the body in a drainage ditch, then feigned a kidnapping gone wrong. GCPD's Major Crimes Unit detective Charlie Fields was killed by Mr. Freeze while investigating a tip regarding the kidnapping, which actually never occurred at all.[2]
Eventually, Fields' former partner, Marcus Driver, deduced Combs was involved in Bonnie's murder, and lured him to the GCPD Headquarters under the pretext of a police lineup with an earlier suspect. With help from Rigger, Combs was identified as the auction's buyer, and a search warrant served on his home brought to the discovery of the secret panel. Also, blood found on the suit's tank implicated him as Bonnie Lewis' killer. When Driver and her temporary partner, Romy Chandler, informed him of the evidence found in his bedroom, he broke down and attacked them with a mini-flamethrower hidden in his wristwatch. The fire was immediately extinguished by Chandler, and Combs was socked by Driver and arrested.[3]
