Maxine Baker is the daughter of Ellen Baker and the superhero Animal Man, born to be the Avatar of The Red as the Animal Girl. Eventually, the Bakers moved to Central City, where Maxine befriended Irey West; the teen superhero also known as Impulse.
At some point, Maxine's Pre-Flashpoint counterpart moved to the Free Country fantasy world, having left behind a duplicate of herself in the real world to be with her family. But the duplicate proved to be unstable, until it wandered off into the snow and froze to death. So, sensing her family's distress, Maxine returned to Earth.
Maxine Baker was created by Grant Morrison, first appearing in Animal Man #1 (1988).
