As Valdemar's hallucinations continue, he starts attacking the police officers that are trying to clear the streets. As the fight continues, Superman theorizes that Valdemar's condition is a combination of culture shock, pollution, and atomic fallout from the nearby city of Woodrow. Superman bores down into the Earth and releases a blast of hot air onto Valdemar. The hot air raises the Viking above the city into fresher air and knocks him out in the process. When he comes to, he is in an oxygen tent at the hospital, his senses fully recovered. He soon dresses and makes a brief statement to the throng of curious reporters outside his hospital-room door, and then rides off on Skagerrak.
