Blaze the Cat is a fictitious character, a 14-year-old female cat who made her debut in the Nintendo DS video game, Sonic Rush.

History

Blaze is a princess (people often refer to her as a queen, however she is referred to as a princess in the American and European versions) from an alternate dimension, where, similar to Knuckles in Sonic's dimension, she is the defender of the Sol Emeralds. Her mission is to retrieve the Sol Emeralds and save her world from destruction.

Her dimension and Sonic's are in flux with each other, allowing the characters to travel from one to the other through a tear in the space-time continuum. Blaze is the only playable character in Sonic Rush aside from Sonic himself.

Throughout the game, she learns the meaning of friendship from Sonic & friends, especially Cream the Rabbit. Cream opens her up to the world and teaches her the value of friendship: the two become close partners like Sonic and Miles "Tails" Prower, similarly to how Tails values Sonic as an older brother and hero, Cream similarly learns to idolise Blaze, if not more in a friendly way.

It is through the power of friendship that she realizes the true powers of the Sol Emeralds, and transforms into her super form (Blaze's costume goes red, her wrists/gloves turn to flames and a fire force field develops around her as a product of the Sol Emeralds rather than the lighter colour and force field of Chaos energy usually used with the Chaos Emeralds) to help Super Sonic stop Dr. Eggman & Eggman Nega from taking over the universe. After the two defeat them, they promise to see each other again and say their goodbyes as they shake hands, being torn apart by their respectful dimensions being returned to normal. Blaze, still in super form, now understands her power, and friendship, as she thinks on Sonic's words of advice.

Personality

Though she is alone in Sonic's world and painfully shy when meeting strangers, she will not let this prevent her from fulfilling her mission: to retrieve the Sol Emeralds and save her world from destruction.

Rumor

There is a rumor claiming Blaze's super form is named Phoenix Blaze. This is untrue, as Blaze doesn't have an official name for her super form neither is this name mentioned in the game, but probably the name originates from her fire powers as the legendary bird similarly possesses.

It's also rumoured that Blaze and Sonic have feelings for each other: in the final Doomsday scene Sonic says something to Blaze which is edited out before he says that he will see her again. Blaze also reaches out her hand first to Sonic which some fans interpret as her moving in on him. For the brief appearances Amy Rose makes, it's also clear she dislikes Blaze to extremes within her character just because Blaze is a year younger than Sonic, therefore she sees her as a love rival. Whether this will affect the Sonic X Amy fandom or other fan pairings with Sonic in them is unknown. However, this is most likely just a good friendship (similarly to how Sonic only values Amy as a good friend, he probably views Blaze the same way), and Sonic is probably only impressed by her skills, similarly to Blaze, seeing as Sonic's not really the type who likes to be tied down by a relationship. It's fair to note though that Sonic likes Blaze just as much as she likes him platonically rather than either friendship being unrequited or unmutual.

It is unknown whether Blaze will appear again (possibly in Sonic Rush 2), however, based over what Sonic said to her (and what he whispered to a crying Cream afterwards) the game seems to hint at that, and this also seems to be backed up by the game's popularity with fans.
