The 'Stonehenge of the Netherlands' is a ancient site that is over 4000 years old.[1] It was used as a Burial mound and for Religious practices.[2] The excavation was done at Tiel and started in 2017.[3] According to the towns website, this was the first such discovery in the Netherlands.[4][5][6][7]

Discoveries

The mound contained remains of around 60 individuals. Three mounds were discovered while the main mound is about 20 metres (65ft) in diameter. it's passages are lined up and, according to the archeologists, served as a solar calendar.[8][9][10]

Around one million objects, dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, the Roman Empire and throughout the Middle Ages, have been found while the oldest artifacts can be traced back to 2,500 BCE.[11][12][13]

One of the more interesting finds was a glass bead which is the oldest ever discovered in the Netherlands. The dutch archeologists team thinks that it originally came from originated in Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq. The group assumes that the Bronze Age inhabitants of this area had contact with groups more than 3,000 miles away.[14][15][16]
