Geoffrey Adjet (born 15 April 1988) is a French footballer who has played as a left-midfielder and left-back for clubs at various levels of the French football league system, including its highest level Ligue 1.
Career
Early Career
Adjet started his youth career with hometown side Toulouse Fontaines, with their academy competing at national level during this time.[5]
Adjet was spotted by Ligue 1 club Toulouse FC when playing against them twice at under-17 level. As a result he was invited to train with them, subsequently signing shortly after.[6]
Failing to break through to the first team, Adjet joined city counterparts Blagnac FC on loan after being approached by an acquaintance in his hometown. Blagnac FC competed at in a Régional 2 division (level 7) at the time, with Adjet being involved in both the youth and senior set-up.[7]
Adjet returned to Toulouse Fontaines youth set-up after again being approached by an acquaintance in his hometown. The move was appealing to Adjet due to increased investment in the club at the time, with them competing in a Championnat National 2 division (level 4). During this period Adjet mainly represented the youth team, however he did represent first team with a solitary appearance.
Adjet’s talent was spotted by former Nancy player and coach Christophe Bastien whilst training with the first team at Toulouse Fontaines. Bastien went onto recommended Adjet to his former club.[8]
AS Nancy Lorraine
2008–2009
Following Bastien’s recommendation, Adjet subsequently signed for Ligue 1 side AS Nancy in 2008.
He made six top-flight appearances for the club.
On 18 April 2009, Adjet scored a decisive goal in the 85th minute against SM Caen, with his team going onto the win 1-2.[9]
Tours FC
2009–2011
Prior to the 09/10 season, Adjet signed for Tours FC in Ligue 2 where he would share the dressing room with future 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and French national football team record goalscorer Olivier Giroud.
On 23 of January 2010, Adjet scored the opening goal in a 4-0 defeat of FC Istres.[10] Adjet’s time at Tours FC was blighted by injury, seeing him leave the club after a two year spell.[11]
Career Break
2011–2013
Following his release from Tours, Adjet struggled to find a professional club.
He attended initiatives organised by the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) in the summer of 2011. This allowed him to train and play competitive games, in a bid to stay fit and find a club.
On 29 June 2011, Adjet scored for a team fielded by the UNFP made up of players trying to find a club. His team defeated an RC Lens XI 0-1. [12]
Toulouse Fontaines
2013–2014
Adjet returned to Toulouse Fontaines after two years without a club. The team competed in a Régional 1 division (level 6) at this time. Adjet admitted this spell at the club was poor in a sporting sense, with the club struggling financially at the time.[13]
SO Romorantin
2014–2019
For the following season, Adjet signed for SO Romorantin in a Championnat National 2 division (level 4). He remained part of their squad for five years, before suffering a knee injury against US Colomiers Football in the final game of the 18/19 season.[14]
Career Break - Injury
2019–2021
Adjet completed his rehabilitation from injury throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic. He admits this spell was challenging and he even contemplated retirement.[15]
SO Romorantin Return
2021–2024
Following successfully rehabilitation from injury, Adjet continued to represent SO Romorantin.[16]
Across the two spells, Adjet has represented SO Romorantin 234 times in the league and 5 times in the Coupe de France.
On 28 October 2023, Adjet played against his former club Tours FC in the 2023–24 Coupe de France providing an assist for an equalising goal as his team went onto win 2-1[17], advancing to the third round. SO Romorantin were eventually eliminated at the sixth-round stage by AS Saint-Priest.
Adjet finished the 23/24 season with a career total of 239 competitive appearances, scoring 23 goals.
It is unclear if Adjet will continue his playing career into the 24/25 season.
