Turridae, common name the turrids, is a very voluminous taxonomic family of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks, which vary in size from minute to medium-large.

There are more than 4,000 species of turrids.

Turrids have a well developed poison gland associated with the radula, which is of varied type.

Shell description

The Turridae have elongate fusiform shells which are commonly but not inevitably characterized by a posterior sinus, the position of which may be sutural, on the shoulder slope, or at the peripheral carina. This sinus is commonly known as the "turrid notch".
