Xymene gouldi is a species of predatory sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Muricidae, the rock snails or murex snails.

Distribution

This murex species is endemic to New Zealand. It is found around the North Island, down the east coast of the South Island, and around Stewart Island.

Habitat

This snail is found in rocky areas, from low tide to depths of about 45 m in clean water situations.

Shell description

The solid shell is small, narrowly fusiform, sculpted with heavy axial folds crossed by strong spiral cords, two or three on the penultimate. The siphonal canal is moderately long, flexed and recurved. The aperture is small and narrowly oval. The outer lip is thickened and dentate within.

Coloration is yellowish-white.

Height is up to 10.5 mm, and width up to 5 mm.
