Stephen James Doocy (born October 19, 1956) is a American television personality and New York Times best-selling author.

Biography

Early life

Doocy was born in Algona, Iowa, and was raised in Kansas. He attended Kansas grade schools in Russell, Salina, and Industry. He went to junior high in Wakefield and high school in Clay Center, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, with a B.A. in journalism.

Career

Currently, Doocy is the host of Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends and Fox & Friends First.

Prior to joining the Fox News Channel, Doocy anchored the morning newscast on CBS-TV's flagship station WCBS-TV in New York City. Previously, he was the co-host of Wake Up America on NBC cable, the host of NBC’s nationally syndicated program House Party with Steve Doocy, a remake of the 1960s Art Linkletter show, and the host of Not Just News on Fox. For six years, Doocy was the comical story reporter for WRC, in Washington, D.C., and the NBC Television Stations division. His early television jobs included news reporter positions in Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, and Des Moines.

Doocy was the live Times Square reporter on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve on ABC-TV for four ball drops and in 2004 co-hosted Fox News Channel's All American New Year.

In October 2006, Doocy's first book, The Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook, a book about marriage and family life, became a New York Times best-seller. It was published by William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins.

In August 2008, Doocy claimed that Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin does indeed have foreign policy experience because "Alaska is right up there next to Russia." [1] He was criticized by Jon Stewart on the The Daily Show for the remark.[2][3]

Personal life

Doocy lives in Wyckoff, New Jersey, with his wife, Kathy Gerrity, and their three children, Peter (20), a student at Villanova University, Mary (18), and Sally (14). He is a practicing Roman Catholic and is a lector in his local parish. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus of Bergen County, New Jersey.
