Albertus Johannes "Bert" van Manen (born 24 March 1965) is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) member of the Australian House of Representatives seat of Forde since the 2010 federal election, defeating Australian Labor Party incumbent Brett Raguse.
Early life
Bert van Manen was born in Brisbane, Queensland, to Dutch immigrants.
Bert grew up in Waterford and Bethania with three brothers and a sister. He attended Waterford State School, Waterford West State School and graduated from Kingston State High School.
His first job was working at the local Caltex service station. After leaving school Bert worked for one of Australia's major banks, before leaving to commence his own financial services business.
Bert married his wife Judi in Beenleigh in 1987. Their two sons both attended Calvary Christian College in Cornubia.
Bert grew up playing soccer and cricket for local sporting clubs, and worked tiling with his father during school holidays.
A true local, Bert is proud to represent the community he was raised in and continues to call home.
An active member of the local community, Bert continues to play soccer and golf when time permits.
Political career
In 2007, van Manen was the Family First Party candidate in the seat of Rankin. He received 3.53% of the primary vote in that election.
Elected as the Federal Member for Forde in 2010, Bert van Manen MP has gone on to win the 2013 and 2016 Federal Elections. as the Liberal National Party candidate.
Since winning office, Bert has developed a positive reputation for delivering results for his community.
